Jan Brewer Wants Supreme Court to End Gay Employees' Benefits

Lately, I've been using the term "meanness" a lot when referring to Republicans and their policies and pronouncements. Need I give a better example than Governor Jan Brewer? For what reason would a governor actively pursue taking benefits away from employees and their families? What drives such behavior, besides meanness?
