Rush Limbaugh Syndicator Suspends Ads for 2 Weeks

Weird people think this picture is cool.
I'm certain that it is Photoshopped.
Image from source, Think Progress.
I have mixed feelings about the news that Rush Limbaugh's advertisers have left en masse, and that his syndicator has pulled their national ads. Oh, Limbaugh is a pig, don't get me wrong. He was okay when he was considered "fringe," and nobody beyond your racist uncle and the crank down the road took Limbaugh seriously. Somewhere along the way--and I'm sure FOX "News" and Karl Rove have a lot to do with this--Limbaugh became mainstream. Or rather, the mainstream of conservatism moved to Limbaugh. That's just frightening.

But back to my mixed feelings. On the down side, many of Limbaugh's advertisers buy ads on all kinds of radio, not just conservo-hate-talk. Liberal talk radio is a relatively small slice of the market (liberal media, my eye!), and they rely on many of the same companies. I happen to enjoy The Stephanie Miller Show and Randi Rhodes (the latter even happens to be syndicated by Rush's people), and don't want to see them disappear. So be careful when firing off letters to advertisers, please?

BREAKING: Rush Limbaugh Syndicator Suspends National Ads For Two Weeks

Radio-Info.com reports that Premiere Networks, which syndicates the Rush Limbaugh show, told its affiliate radio stations that they are suspending national advertising for two weeks. Rush Limbaugh is normally provided to affiliates in exchange for running several minutes of national advertisements provided by Premiere each hour. These ads called “barter spots.” These spots are how Premiere makes its money off of Rush Limbaugh and other shows it syndicates. . .

Randi Rhodes Returns to the Air Today!

After a long hiatus, and much speculation as to her whereabouts, radio host Randi Rhodes returns to the airwaves today. And now that she's being syndicated by Clear Channel (home of many a right-wing bloviator), maybe she'll get to stick around this time! As a long-time fan, I'm anxious for her return, especially for her (hopefully) explanation for all that has happened.

Now, watch. I'll have a meeting at work from Noon to 1:30 or something, and miss the return! Anyway, if you want to tune in, I know for sure that Randi will be on Green 960 and KTLK-AM, both which can be streamed online. The Randi Rhodes Show airs from 3 - 6 pm in the east, and Noon - 3 pm in the west. Get ready to bounce your boobies! Well, actually, you'll probably have to wait until Friday for that!

Randi Rhodes to Return to Radio on May 11!

It looks like my earlier plea to liberal radio star, Randi Rhodes, to please give us some information on her future has been heeded. Actually, though I have recently been visited by a radio host, I doubt that Randi knows I even exist. But the timing is kind of cool.

I've already written many times of my fandom for Randi Rhodes, so I shall not bore you with it. Instead, let's get right to the good news, shall we? [Excerpt]

Talk-Radio Host Randi Rhodes Joins Premiere

Randi Rhodes, the liberal talk-radio host perhaps best known for her stint on the Air America radio network, is joining Clear Channel Inc.'s Premiere Radio Networks, home to Rush Limbaugh and many of the nation's most conservative voices. . .

Liberal Radio Purge

There is an interesting thing that can be learned from conservatives. And by conservatives, I mean the punditry, more than I mean the public (though those who post on FreeRepublic would fall into this category). Conservatives talk endlessly of the "free market." Everything should shake out by itself. If it's good and people want it, it will be provided. If it doesn't sell, it dies out.

And they use this line of reasoning to point a finger and laugh at liberal talk radio. FOX "News" hosts trumpet any bad news or scandal that might plague Air America Radio. They pretend the network has gone out of business (when it hasn't), and say that liberal talk radio is something the public doesn't want, and that is why over 90% of talk radio is conservative. But that isn't exactly true (big surprise). Read on. . .

The Top 10 wherabouts of former progressive talk stations

. . .The year 2007 marked the big liberal purge from quite a few AM stations owned by Clear Channel Communications, Entercom and others. So far, none of the successor formats have done anything in the ratings. Check this out: [snip]

Columbus - After WTPG also dropped progressive talk last December, it's replacement, right-wing babbler WYTS turned out to be a complete joke. Unlike its prececessor, which actually got the best ratings the signal had in years, WYTS has dropped off the chart. Not even Michael Savage can save them. Now, with progressive talk back on WVKO, perhaps we'll get proof that Clear Channel screwed the pooch when they hastily dropped the format. . .
