Frivolity Break: Marie Osmond Remarries Original Husband

If this little nugget of news seems an odd one for this blog, it is. But the oddness doesn't stop at Donny Osmond's sister remarrying her original husband after divorcing him and marrying and divorcing a different dude. No, this struck me funny because of a book I'm reading.

As I noted before, I'm collecting The Bloom County Library, the entire collected series of strips of Berkeley Breathed's classic comic strip, as each volume is released. Most recently, Volume 4 came out on my birthday, and it encompasses the years 1986-87. Those are the years of Bill the Cat causing Chernobyl, a catastrophe which has been revisited a lot in the news lately. Also mentioned--though more in the forthcoming final fifth volume--is Donald Trump, whose brain is transplanted into Bill eventually. And right at the point I'm reading? Poor phobic little Binkley is distraught over the divorce of. . .Marie Osmond.

Mr. Breathed is either a man far ahead of his time, or history isn't just repeating, it is having a seizure.

Celebrate Fake Jan Day, January 2!

Image from source, Wikipedia

OK, this is just goofy fun, but a very well made little video. If you grew up on The Brady Bunch, you might be aware--then again, maybe not--that Eve Plumb who played Jan Brady, opted out of The Brady Bunch Hour. That variety show abomination aired a few years after the original was cancelled, and was basically Donny & Marie with Bradys instead of Osmonds.

It was so bad, that it is quite simply amazing it ever got on the air in the first place. So, good on you, Ms. Plumb. Of course, if "Fake Jan" gets her own day on January 2, what about "Fake Cindy" and "Fake Marcia?" After all, Susan Olsen opted out of A Very Brady Christmas, and Maureen McCormack avoided the Eight is Enough-like The Bradys. None of the Brady boys was too proud to appear in those travesties. So, who says blondes are dumb?
