Why is GOP Refusing Sensible Cuts, and Cutting Important Things?
This is a really good question. When the Pentagon says, hey! We don't want this expensive stuff over here! Why on earth would any politician fight to keep spending millions and billions? If John Boner Boehner and Eric Cantor are fighting for useless stuff because it keeps jobs in their own districts, why not spend money on something useful? And then, they turn around and want to slash funding for important things like food safety and nuclear nonproliferation? REALLY?

Blackwater Took Hundreds of Guns From U.S. Military, Afghan Police
Employees of the CIA-connected private security corporation Blackwater diverted hundreds of weapons, including more than 500 AK-47 assault rifles, from a U.S. weapons bunker in Afghanistan intended to equip Afghan policemen, according to an investigation by the Senate Armed Services Committee. On at least one occasion, an individual claiming to work for the company evidently signed for a weapons shipment using the name of a “South Park” cartoon character. And Blackwater has yet to return hundreds of the guns to the military. . .

More on 22-Year-Old Military Contractor

This story deserves a little more attention. For many years, people have bandied around stories of crazy military contracts. Hundreds or thousands of dollars for a nut, bolt, toilet seat, screwdriver, etc. . .money spent blindly and with seemingly no oversight.
But this story may well take the cake. A 22-year-old (younger at the time) scores military contracts for almost $300 million dollars? And then--big surprise--delivers faulty, perhaps illegal merchandise? With the fiscally responsible, military-first Bush Administration in charge? The hell you say!
