House Spends $50 Million in Futile Attempt to Kill "Obamacare"

Here, America, is your party of fiscal responsibility. They've passed legislation to "kill Obamacare" thirty-three times. "Kill" is in quotes because they knew it wouldn't pass the Senate, and surely wouldn't pass a presidential veto. "Obamacare" is in quotes because it's called The Affordable Care Act, but you knew that.  But they're all in to end it, whatever you call it. And the funny thing is, as people discover the details of the ACA, the more they like it. By the time John Boner Boehner gets to the 35th or 38th try or so, public approval of the act will likely crest the 50% mark. After that, it's going to get dicier for the GOP.

But beyond that, they've spent fifty million dollars in this futile quest! And they knew it would fail! That's a lot of money on a political calculation that your message of "fiscal responsibility" won't be cancelled out by. . .you know. . .fiscal irresponsibility.

They're fiscally conservative, you know. They know that they won't win a vote yet they've tried 33 times for show while sending the bill to the US taxpayer. Nice to see they're so serious about government spending, isn't it? . .

Huh. Whattaya think of this?  Apparently, when there is a Democratic president in office, every income bracket does better financially, rich or poor.  When a Republican is in office, the rich get richer (but not as much as they did under a Democrat), and everybody else? Not so much.

Can we finally put to rest the myth that the Republicans are the party of fiscal responsibility? I know, I know, the Bush Administration has proven that over and over again. But this is just a little icing on the cake.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are missing and presumed stolen from the chief fund-raising arm of House Republicans, according to party officials who described the findings of emergency internal audits.

The financial records of the group, the National Republican Congressional Committee, may also have been falsified for several years, Republican officials said. The campaign committees of several Republican lawmakers may also have been victims of a scam that is now under criminal investigation by the F.B.I. . .

More Money in Iraq Unaccounted For

Did you ever see the episode of Roseanne, where Roseanne and Dan went to Las Vegas? Roseanne is at one of those sliding quarter machines, and says, "how hard can this be?" She then asks Dan, over and over again for quarters: "Gimme another one!"

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The State Department does not know specifically what it received for a billion-dollar contract with security firm DynCorp International to provide training services for Iraqi police, a U.S. watchdog agency said on Tuesday. [snip]

"As a result, INL does not know specifically what it received for most of the $1.2 billion in expenditures under its DynCorp contract for the Iraqi Police Training Program. INL's prior lack of controls created an environment vulnerable to waste and fraud," SIGIR said in an interim review. . .
