St. Elmo's Liar (He Didn't Do It)

I haven't watched Sesame Street since my sister was a li'l bit, which is probably around 38 years ago or so. But I was one of the original watchers of the program (along with The Electric Company, Zoom, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood and Villa Alegre!), and have been a fan of Jim Henson's Muppets for just as long (even Fraggle Rock and The Land of Gorch). Beyond all of that, I'm especially irritated by the heinous stereotype of homosexuality=pedophilia, and of false accusations. This story has both, and the accuser should be sued and stomped. Period. Generations of kids love Elmo, and in one false accusation, he and his creator have been sullied. Shameful, sad, and just plain wrong.

St. Elmo's Liar

The man who accused Kevin Clash—the voice of Elmo—of having a sexual relationship with him when he was underage has recanted that claim. This message is brought to you by the letter "L" for lyin'-ass famewhore. I hope Clash, who was still punished for violating company policies and abusing company Internet resources, will be able to put this behind him.  . .

PS. It should be noted that I don't usually steal entire posts from other bloggers. But it is late, and I found Matthew's post, and thought it was important to get it up before I forgot. It's terrible to be falsely accused, and important to get the word out that Mr. Clash is not guilty of any crime.

In Case You Missed It: The "Big Bird" Obama Ad

Hmmm. Sesame Workshop didn't mind Big Bird on SNL!
I understand Sesame Workshop (the Children's Television Workshop in my day) not wanting their set of Muppets being used in political advertising. But if right-wingers are crowing over the ad pull, just knock it off right now. First: the ad is still available online, and will live on into eternity on the interwebs. And secondly, Mitt Romney brought up Big Bird, and continues to use him as a stand in for the (miniscule) federal funding they get via PBS. If Big Bird is frivolous or somehow "unpresidential" to use in a campaign, tell your candidate. Meanwhile, the ad is rather cheeky and fun. I grew up with Sesame Street and The Muppet Show (not to mention The Land of Gorch on Saturday Night Live), so I kind of have a soft spot.

Meanwhile, On Facebook: Chick-fil-A Lies About The Muppets

This image is making the rounds on Facebook (source unknown, but I'd be happy to attribute it). If you read this blog, you already know that Chick-fil-A a) spells its name stupidly, b) is outspokenly against gay people and c) was abandoned by Jim Henson's The Muppets. As you can see, they're being less than honest about the reason for Kermit and Miss Piggy's abcense.

Muppets Abandon Chick-fil-A

Every time I type Chick-fil-A, I'm sure I've typed something wrong. I mean, if you're going to go nuts with hyphens, why not go for "Chik?" And what's with the capitalization? It's just stupid. I reminds me of that old song, Dazzy Duks which was trying to be cute by spelling "Daisy Dukes" incorrectly, and wound up looking like it rhymed with "snazzy sucks" instead. Which shows you how my brain works.

So, we'll add the stupid name to the reasons to boycott Chick-fil-A. That's in addition to not being open on Sundays (which is pious baloney), and the fact that they're publicly anti-gay. Good enough for me (plus we don't have any in Las Vegas or Nevada, so it's easy too!). But it's not just me. The dude named Cathy who owns the joint has gathered quite a number of boycotters, and only managed to pick up. . .what. . .Mike Huckabee? How does that compare to The Muppets?

Muppets Abandon Chick-fil-A Because Of Its Anti-Gay Policies

Gonzo doesn’t have to worry about Camilla and his other chickens anymore, because the Muppets are officially going to be eating less chicken. In a Facebook note posted Friday evening, The Jim Henson Company, which currently offers toys in Chick-fil-A kids’ meals, announced that will no longer partner with the fast food chain on any future endeavors because of its anti-gay policies. . .

Miss Piggy of The Muppets Tells the Truth About FOX "News"

Miss Piggy takes down FOX "News." Image
from source, Raw Story.
Yes, the subject of this is silly. Puppets don't actually say anything, or voice their own opinions of course. But Miss Piggy is a well known and cherished pop culture character, as is Kermit the Frog and the rest of Jim Henson's Muppets. And it was FOX "News" that started this little back-and-forth, with Piggy's Muppeteer simply speaking the truth. . .in a funny way.

If you're wondering if the right-wing bloggers would stoop to reporting on this story, save yourselves the time. They're squealing about how The Muppets are now shamelessly partisan hacks, shilling for the far-left, liberal moonbats. And that's the nicest thing they had to say.

Miss Piggy: Attack on Muppets movie ‘as laughable as Fox being news’

In a staged press conference following the debut of their new film, two of puppeteer Jim Henson‘s most famous characters, Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog, took questions from reporters about recent criticism lodged by commentators on the conservative Fox News Channel. . .
