Trump Gives Defense of Torture Speech Based on Internet Hoax?

Seriously, Republicans, THIS is your guy? Image from source, MSNBC
Seriously, I just can't. I can't figure out how this pompous, hideous-looking creature with the perplexing hair hat, a virtually fact-free Palinesque speaking style, and completely repellent personality is still--STILL--your guy.

He can say or do whatever he wants. It can be a blatant lie. It can be outrageously offensive. It can be completely counter to every one of your bedrock conservative "values." He can curse. He can insult. He is crass and classless. He has a boundless ego. And he has virtually no details on how he would enact an agenda that is far, far deeper into fantasyland than anything Bernie Sanders has put forth. And he's still your guy. His one saving grace (and believe me, "grace" is only being used because it is a time-worn phrase) is that he doesn't appear to be the type to try to put his religious beliefs ahead of the Constitution. No doubt because he either has no real religious beliefs, or is a self-worshipper.

That's not enough, and is still contrary to ordinary conservative principles. I've got to think when this election is over, whether Trump loses, or--horrifyingly--he wins, that Conservatives are going to wake up with a massive hangover.

Oh, McTortoise. How embarrassing.

Mitch McConnell falls for parody news report about Guantanamo Bay prisoners being eligible for GI Bill benefits

A fake news story claiming that Guantanamo Bay prisoners can apply for GI Bill benefits found a credulous victim in Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who posed a serious query to the Pentagon about the unbelievable report. Wired reported that McConnell fell for a far-fetched story on The Duffel Blog, a parody news site with fake reports about the military. . .

Right-wing World: A New Faux Scandal Is Born!

I know I have a tendency to over-rely on The Rachel Maddow Show clips sometimes, but this one isn't just good, or just blogworthy. It's important. It's the birth of a right-wing world meme, deconstructed almost simultaneously as it is constructed. It's a bunch of hoo-hah about some rich Romney organizer named Vandersloot (who I thought was in jail for killing that Natalee Halloway girl). It's a story that has already gone to such ridiculous lengths, that FOX "News" is calling President Obama a terrorist.

Conservative Ass, James O'Keefe, In Deep Trouble Over Voter Fraud

Voter fraud, oddly documented by the perpatrator. Image from TPM.
This James O'Keefe twerp has been running "sting" operations on many supposedly "liberal" people and groups for a while now. Unfortunately, since he's a protege of douchebag Andrew Breitbart, and because the right-wing spin machine is so much of a bubble, O'Keefe has had some success. But I have to qualify "success." Yes, his efforts got ACORN to disband. NO, he did not prove his case at all, having sleazily edited the video to show something as it didn't happen. Almost anything this creep does gets lauded by the right, but most of the time it is dishonest, skeevy and just plain wrong. He's gotten into trouble before, when his scams stepped a little to far astray from the law. But now? Voter fraud? Somebody is in big, big trouble. But will it be O'Keefe, or his lackeys?

On a side note, O'Keefe's sting this time was to show how easy it is to vote without ID. What he didn't prove (because it's almost non-existant) is how this even matters. Voter fraud of this sort is so rare as to be almost unmeasurable.

Election Law Experts Say James O’Keefe Allies Could Face Charges Over Voter Fraud Stunt

It was one of the few — if not the only — coordinated efforts to attempt in-person voter fraud, and it was pulled off by affiliates of conservative activist James O’Keefe at polling places in New Hampshire Tuesday night. All of it part of an attempt to prove the need for voter ID laws that voting rights experts say have a unfair impact on minority voters. . .
