GOP Clown Car Update: Jeb! Dumped to the Curb

Poor Jebra. Donald Trump set his sights on him as his chief rival (which never really materialized, so Trump either did well or guessed completely wrong, your call). And ultimately, Jeb! finally saw the writing on the wall: he was throwing good money after bad. Actually, it's kind of amazing. He was flush with cash at the beginning of this thing. I think the GOP bubble should take a long serious look at the political operatives in Jeb's outfit, and bar them ever advising another campaign. . .

WAIT, what am I saying? Put them to work immediately on the Trump campaign! Yeah, that's the ticket! It couldn't fail!

National embarrassment Donald Trump easily won the South Carolina Republican Primary, getting somewhere around a third of votes cast. Second place is a virtual tie between establishment favorite Marco Rubio and creepy, Canadian Dominionist, Ted Cruz. It's a horror show.

Oh, boy. Liberals and Democrats are rubbing their hands together in anticipation of a Gingrich nomination!!! I know that it is tempting fate, but I'm quite sure that Gingrich is less electable in a general election than Romney would be. Gingrich is thoroughly unlikeable, mean, petty. . .the list goes on and on. I know that the arch conservative right-wing is thirsty--a blood lust really--to have somebody, anybody beat the stuffing out of President Obama. That can be the only thing that is inspiring a Gingrich surge. Because he's a doughy pant load. Really.

South Carolina Democratic Debate--in 3 Minutes

Now, this is the way to watch a debate! And oddly enough, it was compiled by a right-wing site (see, Mom? It's not all Democratic Underground). This debate has likely been the most newsworthy since Hillary Clinton flubbed the "drivers' licenses for illegals" question.

For the record, I don't see what all the fuss is about. Yes, Clinton and Obama went at each other pretty harshly. But this is a debate, folks. This is what they're for. Does no one remember the George H.W. Bush "voodoo economics" line in the 1984 1980 debate? Oh, yeah, I'm that old older than I thought.

The best bit is toward the end, where the white guy gets the short end of the stick. Enjoy.

HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher is managing to put on new shows despite having its writers on strike. It feels like something is missing, but it is still a very good show.

To make up for the lack of scripted bits, Bill is sending out roving reporters for video segments. This week it was Dan Savage, openly gay writer and columnist. In South Carolina. It's darkly comic. Take a look. (Oh, and ignore the flipped-bird logo, I'm not sure what that's about.)
