Liz Cheney Proves She's Al Qaeda!

I know that my posts from The Rachel Maddow Show are almost daily lately. If nothing else, if you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that Rachel is nothing like the picture the right paints of her. And this clip is genius. Using Liz Cheney's own "logic," Rachel proves that, dum dum DUM! Cheney is Al Qaeda!

Bombs Dropped in Somalia by US

Photo from source, AFP

It's raining bombs. I heard one little blurb about this today, and have yet to see it referenced on the prime time cable news shows. Maybe it's no biggie? Didn't it used to make the news when we dropped bombs in another country? Color me confused.

US missile strike targets 'Al-Qaeda leader' in Somalia

The US military fired at least one cruise missile into southern Somalia near the Kenyan border, targeting an Al-Qaeda leader believed to be hiding there, a US military official said Monday.

"On March 2, the US conducted an attack against a known Al-Qaeda terrorist in southern Somalia," Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said in Washington. . .

More Obama Urban Legend Madness

Photo from source, AOL News

Today I was listening to The Randi Rhodes Show on Air America Radio, which was being guest hosted by Sam Seder while Randi's away. Sam loves to engage right-wing callers, listen to them tell their story (usually skillfully setting up their answers), and then he shoots down their arguments one by one. Sometimes this leads to the befuddlement of the caller, sometimes they concede that they were wrong, and sometimes, they act like Peggy.

Peggy was a caller from Ohio, who has bought, hook line and sinker, the entire boatload of lies, half-truths and innuendo about Barack Obama's heritage and patriotism. The amusing (and simultaneously scary) thing about Peggy was that while she believed it all, she had most of the stuff wrong. She had the wrong stuff wrong! She thought he was unpatriotic about the flag pin thing, said he "refused" to say the Pledge of Allegiance, and "refused" to put his hand over his heart. Peggy was so verklempt, she had a pit in her stomach, and actually thought Barack Obama was a covert agent of. . .wait for it. . .al-Qaeda!

The problem is, most of this stuff is partially wrong or flat-out wrong. Yes, Obama was at an event where he didn't put his hand on his heart during The National Anthem, NOT the Pledge of Allegiance. And he didn't "refuse," he just didn't do it, that one time. He doesn't wear a flag pin, but it's not out of anti-patriotism, and he's explained why, many times. Suffice it to say that in his mind, the cute little flag brooches are akin to bumper stickers or T-shirts, and I agree. There's much more, and all of it its mind-numbingly stupid.

The scariest part is that Peggy did not sound stupid. She sounded very uninformed, and was tragically gullible, but not necessarily stupid. So, my question is. . .how much of America is like Peggy?

Snopes.com, as I've mentioned in the past, is a go-to source for anything that might be a hoax or urban legend, and I highly recommend it in this case. Upon visiting today, I found out that among their thousands of catalogued stories, the Barack Obama hoaxes are #1 with a bullet. If you believe any of the crap floating out there (or your annoying friends/family do), go there now, and learn the truth:

Obama Fights False Links to Islam

The Democratic presidential front-runner and his campaign reacted strongly this week when a photo of him in Kenyan tribal garb began spreading on the Internet. And the praise he received Sunday from Minister Louis Farrakhan, leader of the black Muslim group Nation of Islam, prompted pointed questions during Tuesday night's presidential debate and in a private meeting over the weekend with Jewish leaders in Cleveland, Ohio. . .

McCain Says Hillary Clinton Would Surrender

Photo from source, New York Times

I can't believe that after five years in Iraq, and six plus years since 9/11, we're still at this point. We have a contender for the Republican nomination for President saying that a contender for the Democratic side would "surrender" to terrorists. All this time later, and we still have no definition for "winning" or "success" in Iraq. We're still pretending that al-Qaeda is who we are primarily fighting in Iraq.

Is pulling out of Iraq really surrender? I mean why are we there? When will we know when our "mission is accomplished?" Without any definitions, it is all meaningless. Unless somebody in authority can clearly define success or lack of same, what is the point of us being there? Seriously, I'm at a loss here.

And one more thing. I've heard recently, and also over the last five years that the "troops" are defending us in Iraq. Are they? Is Iraq a threat? I have nothing but respect for the military ("troops" are groups of soldiers, and we've forgotten that), but I'm tired of the empty fawning. They're great guys, no doubt about it, but that does not mean that the job we've sent them to do is worthy or that they are "defending us" by doing it. It is possible that our government has sent them on a fool's errand. Saying so does not diminish them in any way. It diminishes our government.

McCain Says Clinton Would ‘Surrender’

Senator John McCain launched into a pointed critique of his Senate colleague Hillary Rodham Clinton today, saying that “for the first time in political history” a presidential candidate has called for outright surrender in a war. . .

Massive Attack by US in Iraq

Photo from source, Breitbart

I don't pretend to be an Iraq War expert, so I'll leave it to others to interpret this event. But it would appear that this is an important development, so I wanted to be sure to highlight it. As the story develops, there may be a need to revisit it.

Massive US Air Attack South of Baghdad

U.S. warplanes unleashed one of the most intense airstrikes of the Iraq war Thursday, dropping 40,000 pounds of explosives in a thunderous 10-minute onslaught on suspected al-Qaida in Iraq safe havens in Sunni farmlands south of Baghdad.

The mighty barrage—recalling the Pentagon's "shock and awe" raids during the 2003 invasion—appeared to mark a significant escalation in a countrywide offensive launched this week to try to cripple remaining insurgent strongholds. . .

A Word on FOX "News," Wildfires and Al Qeada

It's no secret that many--including me--do not believe that FOX "News" is a legitimate news organization (hence my habitual use of quotes). That said, the morning show, Fox & Friends is an even bigger can of stupid than anything else on the channel. And that's saying a lot.

You may have read that the goobers at Fox & Friends tried to tie a four-year-old intelligence document on wildfire terrorism to the events in southern California. They did so by leaving the "2003" date out of the equation, trying to make it appear recent. Anything to make sure their viewers remain plenty scared. Tragic.

Fox Booby Hatch: Al Qaeda Linked to the California Fires?
In that George W. Bush has replaced the U.S. Constitution with whatever signed statement he finds expedient, continuing to use the same post-9/11 battle cry of "terrorism" it makes perfect sense for Fox News, to follow an identical pattern.

With the California wildfires blazing and over a half million residents forced to flee their homes, in Wednesday coverage of the disaster the specter of al Qaeda loomed as correspondent Adam Housley told "Fox & Friends" co-host Steve Doocy that he had received "hundreds of comments" from readers of his Fox News blog speculating about a link to the current tragedies. . .
