SNL Scores Strong Episode with James Franco (Dec. 6, 2014)

I'll level with you, the weekend, the week, the month and the whole time frame around me has been too full to blog. Sorry about that. But I have to say, when I had time to check out this weekend's James Franco edition of Saturday Night Live, I was surprised to find that the episode was very strong, with surprisingly funny bits through most of the episode. The best of the season so far, bar none. Enjoy.

SNL: MSNBC Responds to the Debate

While I'm sure I have a little bit of trouble laughing at "my side," something about Saturday Night Live's deconstruction of the first debate felt off. I think mostly, it was the speed of the modern-day news cycle. The debate already feels like old news, in light of the jobs numbers, and the events since Wednesday. Also, while the Rev. Al Sharpton and Chris Matthews are ripe for parody (I wasn't happy with Matthews either, or Ed Schultz), I think Rachel Maddow and Sharpton actually were pretty good, post-debate, fairly realistic, and not overly in "spin"-mode. So, it didn't feel like SNL nailed this one to me. But they had funny moments.

The FBI recently contacted the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network, the New York Daily News, and several other groups to let them know they might be receiving letters containing a suspicious but harmless white powder.

According to the Daily News, the list included "MSNBC commentator Keith Olbermann, Fox 5 reporter Mary Garofalo, CBS' '60 Minutes,' the Brooklyn Daily Eagle newspaper, the Post Star newspaper in Glens Falls, the New York State Bar Association, Brooklyn state Sen. Velmanette Montgomery, the Prisoners Rights Project of the Legal Aid Society in Albany and the Center for Law and Justice Inc. in Albany."
