I personally doubt it. I really do. I think he has multiple personality disorders, possibly coupled with some sort of pathology.

It might behoove conservative thinkers--that is, those Trump voters who are more than just knee-jerk, blind faith supporters--to actually watch a few of these videos, starting with this one. That goes for watching Rachel Maddow too, by the way. It's okay, take small doses. But you might just find, especially with Olbermann's new, more level-headed vibe, that while you won't agree 100% (or maybe even 50%), that there is something to what is being said. At the very least, you might get some understanding where liberal thinkers are coming from.

Now, before you revert to calling me a snowflake in search of a safe space, hear me out. A lot of conservatives have complained about the "divisiveness" of the Obama years. We very likely disagree on the reasons for that. But you know what? It is the willingness of extreme partisans on both sides to believe the worst about the other side as the default that keeps that divisiveness alive.

So, do me a favor. Watch this, at least the first 60 seconds. You're going to hear things here that you didn't expect. You're going to hear an argument that comes from actual reasoned thought, not bleating, shouting, crying or whining. As I said, it may not sway you (for sure, I've listened to tons of alt-right programming, and never been swayed an inch), but it might give you some insight to how the other side really ticks, rather than the easy, silly "libtard" insults.

First, several important caveats. There is little worse and nothing cheesier than questioning the psychological stability of a public figure, especially a candidate for president, even in this case.

Except that in his year of campaigning, Donald Trump has called Lindsey Graham “a nut job,” Glenn Beck “a real nut job,” and Bernie Sanders “a wacko.” Trump has insisted Ben Carson’s got a “pathological disease,” and asked of Barack Obama: “Is our president insane?” He called Ted Cruz “unstable,” “unhinged,” “a little bit of a maniac,” and “crazy or very dishonest.” He also called the entire CNBC network “crazy.” He called Megyn Kelly “crazy”—at least six times. . .

I'm leery of getting too excited about this one. So far, the sources I've read have seemed skeptical themselves. But if it's true, it's very good news. With the loss of Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report (we keep Stephen, but it's not quite the same, is it?), having a good strong voice for progressives. Crossing fingers, I guess time will tell.

After falling behind Fox News and CNN in the ratings, the liberal leaning MSNBC has struggled to rebound. While the network has shifted to a more centrist position, it appears one of the most popular liberal hosts in the channel's history could be making a comeback.

MSNBC started to make changes in the summer, dropping "The Ed Show," "Now with Alex Wagner," and "The Cycle," and replacing their mid day opinion shows with a more traditional news format. Veteran news anchor Brian Williams, and host of "Meet the Press," Chuck Todd, have also returned to the network to provide a more balanced approach. With these changes also comes the possibility that the network is not done fine-tuning their brand. Well, I had to temper my squeee! when I found out that Keith Olbermann's long-awaited return to television is in a sports capacity. I have only slightly more affinity for sports than I have for religion. Which is to say, not much at all. But good for Keith, glad he got a gig. He probably doesn't need the bucks, but I'm sure he misses the limelight.

The Ed Show Moves to Weekends on MSNBC

I've been something of a fan* of MSNBC since Countdown with Keith Olbermann switched gears and started speaking out against the Iraq War. Already a fan of Rachel Maddow, I was happy to add her program to my schedule, and when Olbermann left, I stuck with her, and occasionally some of their other programming. I've enjoyed the other personalities like Ezra Klein, Chris Hayes, Ari Melber (sigh), Melissa Harris-Perry and several others, including the occasional Hardball with Chris Matthews and The Last Call with Lawrence O'Donnell episodes. But I'm not a huge fan of Ed Schultz.

It's not that I particularly dislike him, and I'll acknowledge that he's done a lot for liberal causes. But I find his program to be the least newsy of the MSNBC programs I ever watch, and have never become a fan of Ed's style. Still, I wish him well on the weekend startup, and I hope his wife is getting better from her illness.

*I should note, that when I say "fan," I'm not a superfan, like many FOX "News" enthusiasts. While I am no doubt an unabashed fan of Rachel Maddow, I have no particular affection for big corporations like Comcast or GE. Al-Jazeera Buys Al Gore's Current TV

I've wished our cable company--Cox Cable--would carry Current TV since Keith Olbermann was hired as their star attraction. That didn't work out so well, but apparently not much did. Like Air America Radio, it would seem that for all of the charges by the right-wing that we have a liberal media, actual liberal media has a tendency to fail. Sometimes it's the content, sometimes it's the behind-the-scenes machinations, and sometimes it's an unfair playing field. I mean, even the MSNBC/FOX "News" battle isn't a fair one. MSNBC is often either not carried or is far up the dial, out of the "basic" cable tier. They've finally become actual competition for FOX. But Current never even came close to full coverage, and is further into the dial than C-SPAN3 or The Filipino Channel.

When Olbermann was hired, it looked like Current would finally become a contender. But--again, like Air America--the channel didn't seem to be up to the task, Olbermann became unhappy, and got himself fired. It was a real shame too, because it looked like the station really kind of got their act together right about the same time, bringing in some talent and some fun programming. As a huge fan of The Stephanie Miller Show, I'm particularly bummed, as she's been simulcasting her radio program on Current for a while now. Outside of the occasional web clip, I never got to check it out.

Once again, I say "liberal media, my ass."

Rolling Stone Profiles Rachel Maddow

I know that the blog is a little top-heavy lately with a couple of subjects, namely stuff that happened on The Stephanie Miller Show, or alternatively, on The Rachel Maddow Show. Why such fascination with witty lesbians? I know, I know. Summer blogging is something of a slog, and my topics can get boiled down and reduced to the basics. But indulge me on this one post.

See, I really like Maddow. But often, when I read anything about her, I don't recognize the person they're talking about. Particularly if the story is from a right-leaning writer (or if they have appeared in abundance in the comments section). Commentators will make one of a very few stale jokes (she looks like a dude, something about lesbians, or just Mad Cow), and writers will use adjectives that don't fit, like shrew, brittle, shrill or angry. She is rarely any of those things. The Rolling Stone article below actually captures the real Maddow. I haven't entered the comments section though.

I have enjoyed Keith Olbermann's television show greatly in the past. But because he puts on a good show doesn't mean he's a nice person. It would seem he leaves a trail of disgruntled employers in his wake, and that can't all be their fault. Here, Olbermann takes responsibility. . .for starting his program at Current TV, not for it's ignoble end. I hope he lands another venue, because I enjoy his output. But maybe he needs to try self employment.

I like Keith Olbermann, and am glad he's plugging away while he's off the air. I'm even open to criticizing the President when he's wrong--particularly on the issue of caving to Republicans needlessly, and not discontinuing dubious Bush Era policies--but did he go too far here? Possibly. Honestly, there have been some family issues this evening, and I haven't yet had time to watch it. I may be back with an addendum after I have time to view it. Meantime, enjoy.
