Sen. John Ensign's Doo-Doo Gets Deeper

Image from source, Las Vegas Now

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) had yet another terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. The ethics complaints keep rolling in, and this one isn't even about the affair, and the stuff swirling around it. This is about the C Street investigation that is going on separately.

More on Uganda "Kill the Gays" Bill and American Connection

Back when Rachel Maddow began talking about C Street and "The Family," the secretive church/political organization, it was something of a curiosity. A troubling one, to be sure, but also semi-humorous for all of the sex scandals it was connected to (see Sen. John Ensign, Gov. Mark Sanford). But it seems it was all leading to this, a connection between the politically charged, evangelical anti-gay movement. How could this seemingly un-American co-mingling of religion and politics be operating under our radar, pulling the levels of power?

More troubling is, how is it that it has gone virtually unremarked upon except by Maddow? And how could such an evil, draconian proposed law in Uganda have been inspired by our own politicians, and still not have it be newsworthy outside of The Rachel Maddow Show?

What Happens in Vegas DC: Ensign Moves Out of C Street

Image from source, Las Vegas Sun

Poor Captain Hairdo! He just can't catch a break, can he? Well, I guess when you hook up with a super-secret, cultlike outfit like "The Family" at C Street, you really ought not to break one of the ten commandments. Then again, the rules aren't supposed to apply to them. . .unless they get caught. Anyway, Ensign is out! And I don't know if the wifey has taken him back or not, so is he homeless now? Poor guy.

Ensign moves out of home on C Street

Sen. John Ensign has moved out of the C Street house, the Christian home he shared with other elected officials on Capitol Hill that came under scrutiny for its residents’ beliefs and practices and their role in trying to end the Nevada Republican’s affair with a campaign staff member. . .

More of Rachel Maddow on Creepy GOP "C Street" Cult

"The Family" is a religious cult made up of powerful DC Senators and other power players, so the story goes. Holed up in their "church," they seem to find themselves exempt from the laws of man--apparently no matter what they do. No wonder Family member Sen. John Ensign (R.-NV) thinks its a great idea to announce his reelection bid for Senate in 2012.

Anyway, I'm glad that Rachel Maddow is keeping a spotlight on this group, who would really rather stick to the shadows.

C Street: Congressional Cult?

I've heard rumblings about "C Street" before. It's an large townhouse in DC, populated by religious right-minded Republicans, and actually designated as a church. It's creepy, and one of my Senators lives there. The entanglement of religion and politics has always disturbed me, so when I found out that John Ensign was involved with C Street, my already low opinion of him dropped even further.

Now, it seems that C Street is connected to not only Ensign's affair, but with South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's affair as well. And thanks to Rachel Maddow, all of the ooginess of C Street is hitting the mainstream. It's about time.
