Sen. John Ensign in Deep Doo-Doo

Image from source, Las Vegas Now

It's not looking good for the Senator from Nevada. No, not Harry Reid. Captain Hairdo himself, John Ensign's sordid affair just might be leading to actual consequences. Finally.

Thanks again to Stupid Monkey Planet for the link (do I do anything myself any more?).

Email Trail Leads to Senator Ensign's Office

Wednesday is the deadline set by a federal grand jury in Washington for information about Nevada Senator John Ensign and what he may have done to steer work to his former aide, the husband of his lover.

The Department of Justice served subpoenas on at least six Las Vegas businesses, seeking any and all documentation about Ensign, his former friend and aide Doug Hampton, and assorted staffers and political operatives. The Senate Ethics Committee asked for the same evidence to find out if Ensign crossed a line in trying to get work for Hampton while also asking for campaign cash. . .

C Street: Congressional Cult?

I've heard rumblings about "C Street" before. It's an large townhouse in DC, populated by religious right-minded Republicans, and actually designated as a church. It's creepy, and one of my Senators lives there. The entanglement of religion and politics has always disturbed me, so when I found out that John Ensign was involved with C Street, my already low opinion of him dropped even further.

Now, it seems that C Street is connected to not only Ensign's affair, but with South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's affair as well. And thanks to Rachel Maddow, all of the ooginess of C Street is hitting the mainstream. It's about time.

New GOP Urban Dictionary Definitions

Double-dipping into the Countdown with Keith Olbermann clips, because this one is just too entertaining. I do wish he'd included terms like Santorum and Vitter, though.

DC Madam Palfrey Commits Suicide

Photo from source, Raw Story

A couple of weeks ago, when it was reported that so-called "DC Madam" Deborah Jeane Palfrey was already found guilty at trial, I remarked, "Wow, that was fast. And nary a juicy name in sight. My tinfoil hat beckons with news like that!"

Well, the tinfoil hat is screaming for me now, Palfrey having apparently committed suicide today. And both people on the right and left are hatching theories.

For starters, the woman seemed tenacious, and willing to fight to the end. And secondly, as we all know, her phone number list supposedly held the names of prominent DC personalities, from members of the media to politicians. Talk about motive. And depending upon how powerful some of those on the list were, ample opportunity. It just smells fishy.

Reports: DC madam commits suicide in Florida home

Two weeks after being convicted on federal charges for running a prostitution ring, "DC Madam" Deborah Jean Palfrey has committed suicide at a Florida home, according to several news reports.

Police in Tarpon Springs, Florida say the body was found in a shed near Palfrey's mother's home Thursday morning. There was a suicide note, but police did not disclose its contents. . .

Republican Sexcapades With Cliff Schecter

Nothing hits my schadenfreude button harder than GOP sex scandals. It's not like Democrats never have sex scandals. But they aren't the party of self-righteous prudishness. I always suspect over family valuesy people when they get on a high horse, because historically, they seem to be the ones with the kinkiest secrets.

Little did I know The Young Turks have a regular feature with liberal blogger Cliff Schecter called Republican Sexcapades! I smell a new regular (purloined) feature for the Gazette. . .

Larry Flynt Promising More GOP Sex Scandal

Photo from source, Big Head DC

Oh please, oh please. . . I live for this stuff. You keep your Britneys and Anna Nicoles. Hat-tip to BlogActive.com, where I found this gem. Crossing fingers. . .

[Source: Big Head DC]

Larry Flynt, editor and publisher of Hustler magazine, just told FOX Business Network’s Neil Cavuto that he’s “hoping to expose a bombshell” that will stand “Washington and the country on its head.” Within the next week or two, he says his magazine will expose a sex scandal of huge proportions involving a prominent United States Senator. Flynt refused to comment on the Senator’s political affiliation, but alluded that he or she is a Republican.

Books I Can't Wait to Read: Brotherhood of the Disappearing Pants

This book is sure to be a hoot. It's by the authors of Sweet Jesus, I Hate Bill O'Reilly, and Fair and Balanced My Ass. Both of those books are hysterical and informative, and with this particular target, they really can't miss.

The Brotherhood of the Disappearing Pants: A Field Guide to Conservative Sex Scandals by all rights should be a multi-volume set, and the way things are going, it one day will be. Thankfully, the authors have also started a website, which you can go to here.

NOTE: One of the authors will be on The Thomm Hartmann Show on Air America Radio Wednesday, October 24 at 2:00pm EST.

Author Rounds Up Conservative Sex Scandals

Sex scandals certainly aren’t anything new. Politicians and public figures have been canoodling since the beginning of time. The frequency and potency of sex scandals, however, seems to be on the rise.

No surprise, then, that it only took Joseph Minton Amann and Tom Breuer about six months to write The Brotherhood of the Disappearing Pants: A Field Guide To Conservative Sex Scandals. Why just conservative sex scandals? Says Amann, “Liberal scandals aren’t as fun. And, honestly, it doesn’t look like there are as many.”

Larry Craig to be Honored in Idaho

I'm just. . .well, I'm practically speechless. The Sen. Larry Craig story rolls on, and gets weirder as it goes. . .

[Excerpt]

Embattled Idaho Senator Honored in State
BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Sen. Larry Craig has been chosen for induction into the Idaho Hall of Fame, despite his well-publicized arrest and guilty plea in an airport sex sting, officials said.

The nonprofit Idaho Hall of Fame Association picked Craig in March, months before he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after a Minneapolis airport police officer accused him of soliciting sex in the men's restroom, the organization's board chairman said. . .
