Cracked's Top 20 Bizarre Baby Names
This item isn't really newsworthy, but it is amusing. Today, I had lunch with Mr. and Mrs. Stupid Monkey Planet, and the topic of dumb baby names came up. Mrs. Monkey was kind enough to pass along the link, and now I'm sharing it with you.
Sidebar: Everybody knows of a bunch of people with silly names (you're probably thinking of some right now), and here are a few acquaintances I know off the top of my head. . .
Carl and Carol Christmas, Autumn Dawn Sowers, Roxanne Stone (a music teacher), Joanne Butcher Kitchen (a home ec. teacher), Horizontal Linguine, Hazel Nutt, Wishonna Star, Star Castle, Sharon Oliver, Sharon Seaman, Auggie Orsey and last but not least, Dick Fitzer. Now, on with the story!
[Excerpt]
The 20 Most Bizarre Celebrity Baby Names
#9. Prince Michael II/Blanket
Child Of: Michael Jackson
You can really chart Michael Jackson's journey into Crazytown with the naming of his children. When his first kid was produced somehow in 1997, he gave him the pretentious but not-quite-insane name Prince Michael Jackson. In 2002, another boy comes along and Michael, completely out of name ideas, calls him Prince Michael II. You'd expect his nickname to be "The Revenge," but instead Michael started calling him "Blanket."
It's such a great example of how a completely innocent word, given the right set of circumstances, can be nightmarishly disturbing. . .

CRACKED is Back!
Photo from WikipediaThere were lots of imitators of Mad Magazine over the decades, but the most enduring was Cracked. Sure, I had a few issues of Sick, and Crazy but they just weren't as good. Cracked was nearly as good as Mad, and even stole Don Martin away for a little while. (And while we're at it, here's a Don Martin link and picture from that site!)

Thanks to StupidMonkeyPlanet for forwarding me the following link, that shows Cracked has been reborn on the web! No longer much of a Mad imitator, it's a more adult parody magazine, along the lines of the late, lamented Spy Magazine. And they aren't afraid to get political:
