The Exxon Valdez-BP Connection

Image from source, TruthOut

I grew up in Ohio, where all throughout my childhood, gasoline was almost synonymous with Sohio.  Yes, we had a gas station called Sohio, and it was everywhere.  As a buckeye, it felt like part of our state pride to go to Sohio, even though it was often more expensive.  But sometime in my teen years, all of the Sohio stations disappeared, replaced by BP.  There wasn't any internet, and as a teenager, I wasn't much into business news. We just noticed that all of the red white and blue stations were suddenly green and yellow.  But BP (British Petroleum) still felt like a link to the past, keeping some of the brand names ("Boron", "Supron"). I figured they were a stand-up company.

Of course, I also remember the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska from 1989. Anyone old enough does. Even in pre-internet times, that spill was in the top five news stories of the 80s, right there with the space shuttle Challenger explosion, and the shooting of Ronald Reagan. But I never knew there was a BP connection, did you? Greg Palast, the best American journalist around (who ironically doesn't live in America anymore) has the story.

Slick Operator: The BP I've Known Too Well

I've seen this movie before. In 1989, I was a fraud investigator hired to dig into the cause of the Exxon Valdez disaster. Despite Exxon's name on that boat, I found the party most to blame for the destruction was ... British Petroleum (BP).

That's important to know, because the way BP caused devastation in Alaska is exactly the way BP is now sliming the entire Gulf Coast. . .

Exxon-Mobil "Anti-Gay," Even According to Anti-Gay Groups

Exxon-Mobil may or may not be evil, but they are making more money in profit than any other company in the history of human kind. And they are doing so while we all pay more for gasoline than we have ever had to pay. Let's see. If you are a company, and the cost of making your product goes up, you naturally raise your prices. But after you do so, you'd think that your profits would stay static. Unless you're raising your prices far and away above what you need to, right? Am I missing something here?

So, you'd think that Exxon-Mobil would be on everybody's shit list for price gouging, wouldn't you? But no, if you're a group that exists only to put your boot heel on the necks of gay and lesbian Americans, you'd think that's just terrific, as long as you're seeing things the way they do.

So let me ask you, which thing lights up your life more. . .stepping on gay people, or paying more for gasoline? It's sort of your choice. . .

Buy Exxon Gas — this Corporation Doesn’t Pander to the Homosexual Lobby

H/T to Jeremy Hooper of the pro-homosexuality website “Good As You” for calling to our attention this excellent video by Coral Ridge Ministries — commending Exxon-Mobil for standing strong in NOT capitulating to homosexual activist lobby. Just as Jeremy thanked us for highlighting 100-percent pro-homosexual Fortune 1000 corporations (according to the “gay” Human Rights Campaign) — so he and his “gay” readers could reward these companies with their spending – we thank Jeremy for reminding us why pro-family Americans should patronize Exxon-Mobil gas stations. . .

David Ippolito: Oh, Exxon! (Barry Manilow Parody)

Since I'll be away for much of the day (see post below), I will not have much if anything else on the blog today. So I leave you with this little song parody from David Ippolito (the Guitar Man from Central Park). It isn't new, but it's as timely as ever.

Oh, Exxon!

Exxon Mobil has Disappointing Quarter?

I know that I can sometimes sound pessimistic, seemingly able to find the dark cloud around the silver lining. But even I couldn't have dreamed up a negative headline for ExxonMobil's most recent flabbergastingly huge profit for a quarter.

[Excerpt]

Exxon Mobil slips on disappointing first quarter

US oil giant Exxon Mobil posted the smallest earnings increase among the world's top three oil companies, falling short of analyst estimates as production dropped and profit margins from refining narrowed.

Exxon's shares slipped 2.5pc to $90.77 in trading before US stock exchanges opened after the company said first-quarter profits rose to $10.9bn, from $9.28bn, a year earlier. . .
