Another GOP Gay Sex Scandal

"Outing" someone as gay is usually not something I'm behind. While I'm happy to know that Neil Patrick Harris is gay, for example, I think it's rotten that the tabloids basically forced him out. On the other hand, it's worked out pretty well for him. But one place where there is absolutely no moral quandary, is the person in question has a history of vocal anti-gay attitudes. Particularly if that person has the ability to legislate or lobby for legislation.

So, gay state legislator, you deserve this. I'm sorry that you felt it necessary to be so deep in the closet you've found Narnia. I'm sorry you felt it necessary to actively hurt other gay people in order to deflect attention. But you did.

Craig Ferguson Has Fun With GOP Gay Sex Scandal

I'm not much for late night talk shows, outside of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report. Every once in a while, I'll catch one, and whenever I've caught The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, I've found it amusing but weird. Inexplicably, my very conservative mother loves the program. I may be a convert after this bit on California State Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Naturally). Roy--who is a consistent anti-gay legislator--got busted leaving a gay bar in Sacramento with a dude. Dude! The good stuff starts a couple of minutes in. . .

South Carolina's Lt. Governor Has the Gay?

Image from source, BlogActive

Welllllll now! First, South Carolina's Governor Mark Sanford has his Appalachian Trail/Argentinian Tail scandal. Then, Lt. Governor Andre Bauer demands that Sanford resign (Sanford has steadfastly refused). Now, prominent blogger Mike Rogers--who has a 100% accuracy for this sort of thing--has announced that Bauer has the gay!

Now, I have a mixed feeling about "outing." I think that most gay people should be allowed to determine a time that is right for themselves to come out. Optimally, it should be a time of their choosing, in a way they wish to reveal it. My policy, and Rogers' as well, is to only push a person out if they have actively harmed the gay community by their actions, and from the safety of the closet. In that case? All bets are off.

Rumors confirmed

. . .I am now able to confirm a rumor that has circulated in South Carolina for years. South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer is a closeted anti-gay politician who stands to replace Mark Sanford should Sanford resign or be impeached (a real possibility as Sanford is caught in his own sex scandal.). . .

Outrage Movie to Out Closeted Gay Politicians

Image from source, indieWIRE

I am conflicted on the practice of "outing." As a general rule, I believe that gay people ought to be able to "come out" on their own schedules. Nobody forced me out, and I really appreciate that. Sometimes a person is constrained by circumstance, some are conflicted internally. . .there are as many reasons to stay closeted as there are gay people. Most of us feel a great sense of relief once the deed is done. But then, most of us picked our own coming out moment.

A new documentary called "Outrage" is apparently going to be naming names, of closeted gay politicians. Now here is where the waters get murky. Politicians have the ability to make or influence law. And if a closeted gay politician is working to pass anti-gay legislation, that's when I say--wholeheartedly--"out them!"

When it comes to Florida Governor Charlie Crist--who is rumored to be outed in the film--I really don't know what to think. I don't know his record on gay rights issues. I guess it's time to study. . .

First Look: Kirby Dick’s “Outrage”; New Tribeca Doc Names Names

The current governor of a major U.S. southern state, the campaign manager of a U.S. president, a senior West Coast congressman, a former mayor of New York City, and others are among those outed in Kirby Dick’s “Outrage,” a provocative new documentary debuting tomorrow night at the Tribeca Film Festival. Unseen in its finished form until yesterday, the film is likely to cause waves in political and media circles as word gets out about its subject matter. . .
