Benghazi-gate Blows Back on Republicans

or what is being covered up. But this is the kind

So, that ABC memo that thrust the "scandal" about Benghazi from the right-wing fringe to the mainstream turned out to be inaccurate, that part we knew yesterday. But now, CBS reporter--and formerly of FOX "News" I must point out--Major Garrett is blaming the inaccuracies on the GOP itself.  I suppose we shouldn't be surprised. The question now, is will they own it? Or will they still be shrieking "Benghazi!!!" at every turn?

Generally, once partisan, tendentious sources leak information that turns out to be wrong, nothing’s ever done about it. That’s for many reasons, some good or somewhat understandable, mostly bad. But on CBS Evening News tonight, Major Garrett did something I don’t feel like I’ve seen in a really long time or maybe ever on a network news cast. He basically said straight out: Republicans told us these were the quotes, that wasn’t true. . .

FOX "News" Again Mis-Attributes Footage

FOX "News" got busted running footage from last year's campaign, while calling it a shot of the crowd at Sarah Palin's book signing. Yes, they did later apologize for the "error." But isn't this error happening quite a lot? Somebody in the production room is either really bad at his job. . .or really good at his job.

The proof of FOX's allegiance to conservative and Republican causes keeps piling up, as though we need any more. But to "FOX fans," they can do no wrong. Or at least no worse than the dreaded MSNBC. Like Palin (whose fan base is likely the same group of people), FOX can never be proven to be anything less than stellar to these people. So, the people that need the convincing are the casual viewers, the doubters. I hope they're paying attention.

Fox News displays old campaign footage to claim Palin is getting ‘huge crowds’ at her book signings. (Updated)

This afternoon, Fox News host Gregg Jarrett proudly announced that Sarah Palin is “continuing to draw huge crowds while she’s promoting her brand new book. Take a look at — these are some of the pictures just coming into us.” But the pictures that the network chose to display on-air appeared to be old file footage of Palin rallies from the 2008 presidential campaign. Individuals in the crowd are seen holding McCain/Palin signs, and others are holding pom-poms and cheering wildly. “There’s a crowd of folks,” an enthused Jarrett observed, referring to the old footage. I might find the hype about the swine flu somewhat overblown, but I don't believe it's a hoax. Some of the denizens of right-wing world do, some even coming up with elaborate conspiracy theories about it. So, what will these folks think when they find out someone from their very favorite TV channel has gotten the dreaded disease? Stay tuned. . .

Major Garrett of FOX "News" Reports False News

Rational humans know that FOX "News" is virtually an organ of the Republican Party. Also, that they are far short of a credible news source. Particularly in this election season, it is plain which side they're on just by their selection of stories on any given day.

Chaos in Iraq? Hillary Clinton commits faux pas! The Dow takes a dive? Barack Obama is un-American! A Republican gets indicted? John Edwards is too pretty to be President!

And in their quest to spread bad news about Democrats, they're even willing to make stuff up. Even when the subject of a story tells them straight up that it's not true. Amazing.

Fox News: We Report -- Even if We Know It's False

I've been dealing with the media and politics for 25 years, but I've never had a more surrealistic day than January 8. Several times that day Fox News reported that I was joining Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign. It was a big story - at least until the stunning election returns.

The only problem was, it wasn't true.

Fox News never even tried to contact me to verify their story, and when I contacted Fox, I felt like a character in a Kafka novel -- or at least Curb Your Enthusiasm. . .
