SNL: Tina Fey Returns as Sarah Palin (with Darrell Hammond as Trump)

Image from source, MediaIte
As hoped by millions, after famous-for-almost-no-reason Sarah Palin endorsed Donald Trump for president, Saturday Night Live alum returned as everyone's least favorite hockey mom. Needless to say, Fey was terrific. And Darrell Hammond seems to have taken over the Trump role from Taran Killam for good.

Stephen Colbert's Hilarious Response to Sarah Palin's Trump Endorsement

If you thought moving to CBS would neuter Stephen Colbert, maybe you should revisit him at The Late Show. Here is Stephen, showing he's just as funny as himself as he was as a caricature of himself. Sarah Palin, of course, provides a wealth of comedy gold nuggets for him to mine.

Sarah Palin's Ridiculous, Pointless, Rambling Trump Endorsement

Herself, also too. Image from source, MSN.
Sarah Palin is the ultimate symbol of the current Republican Party. She has a cult of personality. She has no particular political talents, no particular base of knowledge. She has shown little interest in becoming any "better" at being this weird type of celebrity she epitomizes. No need for book learnin' or basic sentence construction. She's just Sarah Palin, and no matter how ridiculous she appears to most of the world, inside the conservative base bubble, she is awesome.

If Palin is the ultimate, Donald Trump is whatever comes after ultimate. He's the male version of Sarah Palin. So, naturally, the two are teaming up. There are three or four takeaways from this momentous occasion:

- Palin is one of the few personalities capable of shutting up Trump. For a long period of time. And at his own event.
- It says something really sad about the GOP that its two leading contenders--Trump and Ted Cruz--actually wanted Palin's endorsement.
- Palin truly outdid herself, spewing forth a word salad of head-scratchers, run-on sentences (and paragraphs), non-sequiturs, mangled clichés; served alongside a stew of mistruths, distortions, bad conclusions, inapt analogies and downright lies. This was Palin on eleven. [Story continues below]

All of this was carried LIVE!!! on all of the cable news channels, even the "liberal" ones. What made this a newsworthy, live, prime-time event? Who is Sarah Palin today, exactly? She served as the mayor of a small town, then a governor--for half a term--of a small state. She campaigned for all of a couple of months as John McCain's running mate, and that's it. That's the sum-total of her political oomph. As already amply spelled out (and if you check my archives, there are loads more examples), she's little more than a celebrity. Less than that, she's a celebrity has been, who has failed to parlay her fame into anything beyond a few short-lived reality series, a couple of short-lived stints on FOX "News," opining on every subject with the depth of knowledge of your dotty Aunt Gertrude.

Ann Coulter is backing Ted Cruz. It must be killing her that she got barely a whisper compared to this. Poor old gal. But don't you have to ask yourself (for me, it's with open-mouthed astonishment) why either of those women would be considered a positive endorsement? Something you'd tout as a plus? What the hell is wrong with the Republican Party? What is wrong with its base? How can they criticize absolutely every action or inaction by Democrats with the air of superiority of a serious party, when they're this deeply unserious?

PS: Anyone calling Hillary Clinton shrill? STFU.

Sarah Palin Endorses Donald Trump, Rallying Conservatives

Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice-presidential nominee who became a Tea Party sensation and a favorite of grass-roots conservatives, endorsed Donald J. SNL: Hillary Clinton Meest 2008 Version of Herself (and Special Guest)

It would be almost unthinkable to have Amy Poehler and Tina Fey back to host Saturday Night Live without revisiting one of their funniest sketches. Back during the 2008 campaign, Sarah Palin had been added to John McCain's GOP ticket, and Barack Obama won a brutal primary against Hillary Clinton. The SNL version of this eventuality was a classic, that lives on as a highlight in SNL history.

Eight years later, with Hillary running again, SNL finds her dreaming about meeting her former self. . .and her former competition!

And just for fun, here's the classic bit.

Donald Trump Word Salad Puts Sarah Palin's to Shame

Image from Mother Jones.
[Click to embiggen]

Donald Trump is the king of the parenthetical. I've been trying to point this out to people for his entire run. He can barely get through a single sentence without veering into a parenthetical tangent. Give him credit for somehow steering the cart back onto the road, most of the time. But here is an example of Trump putting parentheticals in parentheticals, like little tangent nesting dolls. It's a sight to behold.

What's funny is, I was reading the commentary below the story I got this from, and one of the commenters mentioned that people were being unfair. That any speaker's parenthetical speech patterns look terrible when transcribed. In fact, that the art of transcription itself can wreck what a person really had to say. Then, a naysayer pointed out that there is video, and it doesn't help at all. It's kind of hilarious. But also a little horrifying.

And on my own tangent, herewith is my favorite comment:

AvatarDonald Trump's hair looks like it was scared really badly and it stood straight up and screamed and then it died, and he combed it gently so it looked nice for the funeral.

I Have No Headline Worthy of Donald Trump's Latest

I hesitate to drop the P-bomb, but this bit of word salad from Donald Trump is eerily Palinesque. How is it possible that Spy magazine is no longer around to explain this to the world?

Single Abstinance Spokeswoman Bristol Palin Pregnant. Again.

Image from source, Wonkette
The first time* Bristol Palin got preggers, it tarnished her mother's bona fides as a "traditional values" candidate, and made Bristol's mama bristle at the press, starting a political sideshow that continues to rear up its head every so often to this day. Since then, the younger Palin's hastily arranged nuptials to the first baby's father was cancelled, she's become an abstinence only spokeswoman, and has continued--along with the rest of her trashy family--to be a political Kardashian. I stopped paying attention years ago, but apparently there have been other beaus, a near-marriage (to someone who was already married, did I get that right?), and now is still married, and preggers again.

*And while I'm reporting on this tawdry tale, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that it's possible that the first time Bristol was actually pregnant, there may have been some subterfuge to pass the kid off as Sarah's. There's still an awful lot of weirdness around that particular nativity story.

Right Wing World Duggared: A Picture Speaks a Thousand (Yucky) Words

Something tells me there are a whole lot of conservatives purging their various social media, blog and website archives for anything  to do with a Duggar. But the internet is forever, and these photos will always exist.

And yes, I'm doing my part to make "Duggared" a verb. A really awful verb.

The Palin Family (A Rocky Mountain Mike Song Parody)

The Palins keep making the news, and almost every time, I cringe and weigh the pros and cons of giving those absolutely Kardashian-level celebrities even an ounce more publicity. But when they're getting verbally pummeled? I mean rather than actually pummeling others? I totally dig it. And now Rocky Mountain Mike has put it to song (to the tune of the theme from The Addams Family).

Sarah Palin Channel's Latest Folksy Video

'Cause ya know ya wanna see it, also.

Sarah Palin Channel's Latest Video Is Just A Bunch Of Word Salad

The latest video on Sarah Palin's eponymous online network was billed as a rebuttal to Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D-MA) Netroots Nation speech, but some of Palin's points were just too incoherent to follow. In the video posted Friday, Palin responded point by point to eleven "commandments" that Warren outlined in her speech to the progressive confab last month. Warren's sixth point, that fast food workers deserve a living wage, drew so much scorn from Palin that she stumbled over her words a few times. . .

Right Wing World: A New Party to Split from the GOP? Great Idea!!!

I thought that the Tea Party was supposed to be "better" and "more conservative" than the establishment Republican Party. But when the establishment cowtows to the Teas, and the Teas all run as Republicans, who can tell them apart? So, someone has gotten the bright idea to start a breakaway party. And, get this. . .with Sarah Palin as its figurehead. Yeah!

I couldn't have scripted it better. This would be so amazing. Do it! Do it now! Don't wait until after the midterms, strike while the iron is hot!

I (Don't) Want My Sarah Palin TV!

Image from source, NewsCorpse
After the announcement that Sarah Palin is getting her own internet "TV" channel, the hashtag #PalinTVShows began trending on Twitter. I couldn't resist throwing in, 8 Simple Rules for Knocking Up My Teenage Daughter, Also Too. But seriously, the news that this political celebrity with the paper-thin depth of knowledge, is starting her own network isn't really a surprise is it?

I mean, she's become wealthy doing her "you betcha" schtick for tea bagger rubes. How much can an internet "channel" cost? She loves being on camera, and she loves to throw her Molotov Cocktail bon mots via social media. Now, she's just combining these things, and can run them on a loop. I can't imagine what would possess a person to subscribe. But you know she's going to sell memberships to media outfits like Media Matters and Think Progress, along with the organizations who agree with her like NewsBusters and World Nut Net Daily. But I have a feeling it's going to wear thin quickly.

House Conservatives Not Gung-Ho on Impeachment

Sorry, Sarah. Not right now. Put your hand away,
you look like an idiot. Er...more of an idiot.
High crimes and misdemeanors. That phrase is important, because it was largely ignored back in the late 90s when Congress impeached President Bill Clinton. His "high crime" was to lie about having sex with a woman who was not his wife. In a question that was immaterial to the case. In a case that was later dismissed. It was and remains ridiculous.

Now, I'll acknowledge that lo about seven, eight years ago, I really would like to have seen George W. Bush impeached. At the time, there was a very lengthy list of offenses, the majority of which couldn't even be called a stretch. And even if you don't think so, they certainly hit a higher water mark than did the Lewinsky affair. But, as Nancy Pelosi said, impeachment was off the table.

And now, the hard right--having hated President Obama from his first election day or before, and thwarted in his second--has a similar bottled-up rage. From my vantage point, it's misdirected, viewed through a ideologically distorted prism. Though I don't agree with the President on everything (not big on drones, wish the war was over), the "scandals" he's been through have mostly been nothingburgers, or--funny enough--extensions of Bush Era policies.

But, the red meat base wants impeachment. But you can tell there may be a lot of hot air behind it when they can't seem to agree on a charge. Sarah Palin wants the impeachment to be based on the border crisis, which makes no sense (surprise!). I've seen others that want it to be the IRS "scandal," something that has never implicated Obama, and has fizzled out. I'm sure Darrell Issa would point to Benghazi!!! But what's the crime? If Benghazi a crime, what was 9/11? I mean, come on.

Fortunately, it sounds like Congress isn't really in the mood anyway. Who knows what will happen if the GOP takes the Senate in November (something that wouldn't be possible in a sane world). But for now, sounds like impeachment is off the table.

Sorry, Sarah Palin: House Conservatives Oppose Impeachment Of Obama

Sarah Palin, your wish is not granted. A panel of the House's staunchest conservatives on Tuesday rebuffed the former Alaska governor when asked about her call last week for impeaching President Barack Obama. Some said impeachment was impractical, some said it would hurt the GOP politically and others cautioned that Obama hasn't committed high crimes and misdemeanors. . .

Right Wing World: Sarah Palin Advocates Impeachment

You know, because when it comes to matters as serious as the impeachment of the President of the United States, I always look to half-term, half-wit governors from states with a population that is dwarfed by 17 US cities. I'm aware that I should ignore this shrill, past-her-prime mean girl, as attention (and money) is what she thrives on. But as long as Right Wing World looks to this clueless twit as some sort of political guru [get better heroes!], she's not going away. And when she stirs up shit, it tends to splatter around.

So, Palin adds her endorsement of the idea of impeachment. Someone will have to explain to her that it doesn't involve actual peaches, I suppose. Her reasoning seems sort of screwy to me. But we know from the Bill Clinton impeachment that the right will use absolutely anything as a reason. It's not so much an impeachment for a specific reason, but one just for the sake of it. Just like last time. But last time, it just made Clinton more popular, set his wife on a wave of sympathy and congratulations, and probably lead to the upcoming candidacy of Hillary Clinton.

But, I'm telling you. When Nancy Pelosi said, "impeachment is off the table," in regard to George W. Bush, the right should have taken that great gift, and returned the favor. Because if any president deserved impeachment, it was Dubya.

One More Time: Obama Doesn't Wear "Mom Jeans"

Sarah Palin, ever the original, has hauled out once again, a joke about the president wearing "mom jeans." I've written about this before, and it's really not a case of me defending the president. It's a case of me defending a joke. The joke is--as is made abundantly clear in the original Saturday Night Live sketch--that some moms wear jeans with enormous rises, with vast expanses of denim betwixt waist and crotch. This makes a pooch in the front, and a long, flat butt in the back. It's a specific thing.

President Obama on the other hand, tends to wear relaxed-fit, or loose-fit jeans. Like virtually every American who would actually be laughing at a "mom jeans" joke. Of course, the joke itself has a lot to do with homophobia, and casting Obama as either woman-like or gayish. Don't tell me it's not. Where else does the joke go, since the accuracy of the charge is so off? Anyway, I decided to make a graphic, just to show you what I mean. So, here you go.

And in case you still don't understand what I'm getting at, here's the original bit:

This is Who the GOP Calls Leaders?

The Duck guy, from source, Washington Post
I keep saying it: GOP, find better heroes.

But "hero worship" is one thing. Wouldn't you think that a Republican Leadership Conference would showcase leaders, and not a clown car full of "You're fired!" "You betcha" and Dukes of Hazzard-style rednecks? I'm surprised that recently-borderline-newsworthy Joe the Plumber wasn't a keynote speaker. You've got clueless boob Donald Trump, fellow reality star Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty with his religious bigotry, and Sarah Palin, cracking very stale (and inaccurate) jokes about "mom jeans."

It's lunacy. This is a party that is changing its image?

The Duck Dynasty guy epitomizes this weekend’s Republican Leadership Conference

But the crew of speakers who will take the stage at the confab -- formerly known as the Southern Republican Leadership Conference -- is notably devoid of many of the top 2016 GOP contenders, including Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, and even Southerners like Mike Huckabee and Rand Paul (who is known for his prolific travel and speech-giving schedule). . .

Sarah Palin Derps Some Racism Again

I almost didn't use this image (from Wonkette)
since the beyond awesome Lynda Carter
does not like Sarah Palin. But I figure
this his how Palin sees herself.

I'm always torn about writing a Palin post. She's a pointless, ridiculous political celebrity, and she thrives on attention, even negative attention. Kinda like Ann Coulter. But the she-beast of the north has gone and blown--not a dog whistle--just a regular loud, racist whistle. Again. So, the only way I can handle her today is by finding a funny write-up about it. This fits the bill.
