Satanists: Hobby Lobby Decision Could Exempt Women from Anti-abortion Laws

This gives me a great deal of schadenfreude. File under: be careful what you wish for.

Satanists want to use Hobby Lobby decision to exempt women from anti-abortion laws

In a statement, the Satanic Temple said that it will use the Supreme Court’s recent Hobby Lobby decision to exempt its believers from state-mandated informed consent laws that require women considering abortions to read pro-life material. Informed consent or “right to know” laws state that women seeking elective abortions be provided with information about alternatives to the procedure, often couched in language that attempts to personify the fetus. According to the Guttmacher Institute, 35 states currently have informed consent laws, and of those, 33 require that the woman be told the gestational age of the fetus. . .

So, THAT Happened: Satanist Group Unveils Proposed Monument for Oklahoma Courthouse

This made me laugh myself silly. I've been saying for years, if you allow religion in your politics, you don't get to limit it to just one religion, you have to let them all in. And there are a lot of them, some--shall we say--less than mainstream. I'm sure that most of the supporters of the Ten Commandments monument are horrified by the design of this one. But I can't help myself, I find it hilarious. It was clearly designed for both reactions.

Unintended consequences, people.

Satanists to Build Monument Next to Oklahoma Ten Commandments?

Image from source, Wonkette
Unintended consequences. That's what "good Christians" tempt, every time they try to insert their religion into matters of state. If you allow The Ten Commandments or a crèche at the state courthouse, you have to allow similar things from other religions. They're not all "nice" religions, from the Christian perspective. But they should have thought of that, shouldn't they? And what constitutes a "religion," anyway? Couldn't just about anybody invent a religion, ordain themselves a priest, and--ahem--erect any kind of monument their religion might think of?

Satanists Generously Offer To Build Monument Next To Oklahoma Statehouse’s 10 Commandments Display

In a move that pretty much says “I’ll see your rhetorical question and raise you an ugly public monument,” a group calling itself the “Satanic Temple” has offered to display a big ol’ monument in honor of the Hornéd One, to be installed on the Statehouse grounds near the state’s display of the 10 Commandments. These are the dadaist religious trolls who made “God hate Fred Phelps’s mom last night back in July. Best of all, the epic trolling appears to be sanctioned under the 2009 law that erected the 10 Commandments at the statehouse. We hope the Pastafarians will be next, because noodles are yummy. . .

Florida Satanists. . .for Prayer in Schools?

It's not hard to see why satanists are attracted to Florida.
Look at this guy! Image from source, Inquisitor.
In an extremely apt case of "I told you so," the prayer-in-schools crowd is getting a lesson in why that may result in things they didn't anticipate. I've been using this example for decades, but someone's actually finally putting it to use. Other reasons that born again types might want to reconsider their stance are, Mormon prayer in schools, Celtic chants in schools, bowing to Mecca in schools. . .the list is lengthy.

Florida Satanists Fight For … Prayer In Schools

Palm Beach Gardens, FL – Governor Rick Scott of Florida has some rather unusual support behind his recently-signed “prayer in schools” bill. Though the Christian population of the state must undoubtedly support the bill, it’s the Satanists who are turning out in force to rally for the measure. . .

Hillary's Flag: The Next Campaign Pitfall?

If you've been here before, you may have stumbled upon one of my references to the other side, the crazy weird Right-wing World. Generally speaking, on this blog that means either FOX "News" or FreeRepublic.com. Checking in with either one can be painful, sometimes funny, and occasionally informative.

Check this out. I went to Free Republic's main site today, and saw a link to this discussion thread. In it, people are wondering why Hillary Clinton's American flag backdrop has upside down stars. I followed the links to Clinton's site, and sure enough, there it is bigger than life.

Now, if I had to ponder it, I'd guess that it's a homemade flag, and the maker mistakenly sewed the star field on wrong. I can't imagine it was on purpose. I also can't imagine that somebody didn't notice. Of course, I'm a graphic artist, so that sort of thing jumps out at me.

Anyway, It wouldn't shock me a bit if this becomes some sort of issue. If $400 haircuts, and lapel pins can become a big deal, this surely can. Hillary might be smart to come out with some sort of statement just in case.

Oh, and if anyone should come up to you and make a big deal out of this, show them the official GOP logo. It has the devil stars too!
