AFA Courts Irony Explosion with "Bigotry Map"

Oh, this is cute. In my email box, I just received a "bigotry map" from the American Family Association. At first, I thought the AFA was pointing out their own calendar of events, since they exist--as do many of these "Family™" organizations--primarily to foist their own bigotry onto others. But when they're not doing that, they are playing up each and every odd occurrence in the country that could be spun to appear contrary to evangelical Christianity. By "spun," I mean that even those random events they find and try to present as a pattern, are often just ginned up as money-begs for the AFA, its affiliates and its contemporaries.

We are a very religious country, but a peculiar one. Because much of our visible religiosity takes this form, this knee-jerk, hyper-sensitive (while simultaneously complaining about the sensitivity of others), martyr complex, money-drenched, professionally and perpetually offended network of "crazy Christians." I'd wager that any real animosity toward religion in general and Christianity in particular by people in America is actually in response to these extraordinarily irritating Family groups. Seriously. And if they're feeling dumped upon by "bigots?" Well, turnabout is fair play.

[From their press release]

Anti-Christian Bigotry Groups

The American Family Association has identified groups and organizations that openly display bigotry toward the Christian faith. These groups are deeply intolerant towards the Christian religion. Their objectives are to silence Christians and to remove all public displays of Christian heritage and faith in America.

Lawrence O'Donnell Rewrites Christian Boycott of Google

Boycott THIS! I dare you! (Click to embiggen)
This is just entertaining as hell. The AFA (American Family Ass.) is a group of busybodies who wants all of America to follow their strict idea of religion. Their many spinoffs, compatriots and copycat groups almost uniformly--and curiously single-mindedly--exist to make life hard for gay people. Sure, some of them are obsessed with abortion too, but it's mostly the gays. . .they just hate the gays!

Anyway, the AFA and the Million Moms (who apparently can't count) and others have pledged to boycott any company that supports The Gay and/or The Gay Marriage. Unfortunately for them--if they wish to remain consistent at least--they're going to have to travel with detailed binders, because lots of corporations support gay rights. Kraft and General Mills make half the items in the grocery store, and both support The Gay. They can't use an iPhone or an iPod or a MacBook to keep track of what not to buy, because Apple is so gay their logo used to be rainbow-colored. No Microsoft computers, phones or tablets, Bill Gates is too gay friendly. They can't use an Android phone or tablet because Google is very gay friendly too. So, get out them binders!

It's Google that caught the eye of the host of The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell, who levels a devastating "Rewrite" segment at the AFA and their like-minded friends. It has to do with the Christian right's ironic obsession with porn. Enjoy!

"Family" Groups Added to Hate Group List

Image from source, Joe.My.God.
Dating way back to the Reagan years, uber-Christian anti-gay groups began using the word "Family" in their names, to make them sound warm and fuzzy. The implication of course is that gay people are "anti-family" a charge that has zero substantiation. I can't be sure this was the beginning of Frank Luntzian double-speak in politics, but it's one of the earliest examples I can remember.

Groups like "The American Family Association" seemingly only exist to stomp out gay rights--or gay people. It's about time that they were given proper acknowledgement for what they are: hate groups.

Southern Poverty Law Center Adds Family Research Council & American Family Association To Anti-Gay Hate Groups List

The Southern Poverty Law Center, the nation's leading watchdog of hate organizations, has added the Family Research Council and American Family Association to its list of anti-gay hate groups. Also making the list for the first time is the Illinois Family Association, the former home of Porno Pete LaBarbera, whose group also makes the list. . .

Pepsi Donates $500K to PFLAG

I saw this item, and thought, "How long until the American Family Association, and all those other 'family' groups boycott PepsiCo?" I mean, lots of people maintain that they prefer Coke to Pepsi. Diet Coke to Diet Pepsi. Mello Yello to Mountain Dew. Sprite to Sierra Mist. I've never understood the distinction myself (I buy whatever is on sale), but some people are loyal Coke buyers, and refuse Pepsi products anyway.

Then I remembered, Pepsi owns FritoLay. Frito-frickin'-Lay! Go ahead, 'phobes, boycott Doritos, Fritos, Lays, Cheetos, Tostitos, Sun Chips. . .just try! Something tells me, the target audience for a boycott is the very group that couldn't make it through a weekend without the tasty, salty snacks of FritoLay. And don't forget that Pepsi also has a stake in Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC. Yeah, I think a boycott would be an epic fail. A hearty Neslson Muntz Ha-ha! to you!

AFA Boycotting "Pro-Gay" McDonald's

Image from source, Think Progress

Oh, for Pete's sake. These creepy family groups--American Family Association chief among them--see the gay lurking behind every corner, don't they? It makes you wonder why they're so preoccupied with the subject. And really, AFA, do you think you can bring down McDonald's? Tilting at windmills again! Oh wait, that's from Man of La Mancha. . .which is sorta gay!

[Excerpt]

Today, the right-wing American Family Association (AFA) announced a boycott of McDonald’s. According to AFA, Ronald McDonald and his gang are part of giant gay agenda. . .
