Science is Cool Weird Creepy: The Fish in Finding Nemo Would be Gettin' It On?!

Well, far be it for me to criticize anybody's sexual proclivities, as long as everything is consensual and legal and stuff. But, really, Nemo would be doin' his dad if Finding Nemo was truer to life? I guess in the open sea, very flexible gender identity has its advantages!

Scientifically Accurate Finding Nemo Would Be Horrifyingly Incestual

And the Million Mom types were worried about
Ellen DeGeneres? Image from Gizmodo.
Okay, so, um, here's your perception warping, good times stomping news of the day: Finding Nemo is a damn lie. Not in a oh fish can talk sort of harmless lie but in an oh my god Nemo would grow up to bone his dad sort of awful lie. The Fisheries Blog broke down the science of Finding Nemo and pretty much exposed that Nemo's mom would die, Nemo's dad would switch sex and Nemo would eventually mate with his female dad. . .

Portia De Rossi to be New Lily Munster

Portia and Yvonne, from D-Listed
When it comes to my nostalgia TV, I'm a Bewitched over Jeannie guy. I'm a Star Trek over Lost in Space guy. I'm a Brady Bunch over Partridge Family guy.  I'm a Mary Ann over Ginger guy (oh, who am I kidding, I liked the Professor!). And when it comes to the macabre monster-themed shows, I always liked The Addams Family over The Munsters. Personal preference.

But The Munsters had a lot going for it, not the least of which was the casting. Yvonne De Carlo and Fred Gwynne as Lily and Herman. And if The Munsters has to be re-done again (as all of the above have been, again and again), they could do a helluva lot worse than Jerry O'Connell (sure to be the hottest Frankenstein's monster since Andy Worhol's) and Portia De Rossi. And look she's even got that "De" in the middle there, even if she uses "DeGeneres!" After adoring Portia in both Arrested Development and Better Off Ted, I'm actually looking forward to it!

Portia De Rossi Is The New Lily Munster

. . . Deadline says that Portia got the role after ABC Studios refused to let Lorena from True Blood out of her contract with that
Devious Maids mess, which might be headed for Lifetime. Yeah, so Lorena from True Blood is totally farting in somebody's coffee mug today. Portia will put on a luscious skunk wig to play Lily alongside Jerry O'Connell as Herman, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa Munster, Charity Wakefield as Marilyn and Mason Cook as Eddie. . .

In Case You Missed It: Howard Stern Defends Ellen DeGeneres

I'm not much of a Howard fan (I love fart jokes, but c'mon). But when he does something right, he deserves credit. Kudos, Mr. Stern.

Ellen DeGeneres Responds to JCPenney Boycott

Yes, America, this is apparently the face of evil.
I want people reading this to just back up a second and take this in. There is a group of busybodies called One Million Moms (sounds huge, and heartwarming, don't it?), and they are upset at JCPenney for their choice of spokesperson. You'd imagine that it would have to be some awfully controversial figure, like Howard Stern or maybe Madonna; even Lady Gaga. No, Penney's celebrity spokesperson is Ellen DeGeneres. One of the most beloved national talk show hosts ever to grace the daytime screen, a close second to Oprah. Why? Because she's gay.

Because she's gay? Really? Since when is that a crime? This isn't the 1950s, where people didn't even know that "gay" meant anything other than happy. It's not the 1960s or 70s when the sexual revolution had tight asses in a twist. It's not the Reagan 80s, when AIDS threw that revolution into a skid.  The 90s, 00s and now the 10s have seen gays gain more and more acceptance with those under retirement age. And when the Tea Party formed (you know, totally not be cause a black guy took the White House), there was a lot of talk about how social issues were dead. No more gay baiting. No more wedge issues. Hah!

So, 43 years after Stonewall, we still find huge groups of politically respected groups and (cough!) Presidential candidates who think it is acceptable to verbally gay bash. To try to get a woman fired for the non-crime of being gay. Unbelievable.

Ellen DeGeneres Leaving American Idol

Image from source, LA Times
Well, poot.  Ellen DeGeneres was just about the only worthwhile thing in the most recent, most lackluster season of American Idol.  Sure, she's not a musician, but she's funny and had some decent opinions. But then, she's also very busy with lots of other things. I just read this on Twitter, via @RyanSeacrest:  "Spoke with ellen d tonight aka @theellenshow‬‪. I will miss her on idol. She's one of the kindest and most talented people in Hollywood!"

Ellen DeGeneres is out as 'American Idol' judge

After days of furious rumors, Fox just made it official: Ellen DeGeneres' much-criticized tenure as the fourth judge on "American Idol" has sputtered to an end after just one season, with the show in the midst of a massive overhaul. . .

Ellen DeGeneres Smeared on Family Feud?

Do you suppose the old guy thought Ellen DeGeneres was Rosie O'Donnell? Not that Rosie hates her country, mind you. But if you're a Sean Hannity fan, you'd think she does. But Ellen? Really? At least she took it well.

Ellen DeGeneres Named Fourth Judge on American Idol

I love Ellen. But I still wish they'd have gone with my choice, Cyndi Lauper. Funny, quirky and mad talented. It would have been like Paula, but with talent. Ooh, snap! Anyway, good on Ellen. She's funny, and has her finger on the pulse of pop culture.

Portia de Rossi's Apology PSA

UPDATE: Bumping this up, because I think it's very funny, and deserves another look. . .

I freakin' love Portia de Rossi. Nobody is better at deadpan humor, and in a variety of characters. This clip is from Jimmy Kimmel Live, with Portia's satirical mea culpa for all the pain her marriage has caused others. Ellen DeGeneres is a lucky lady!

And here she is in her new sitcom, Better Off Ted, a funny show with a terrible title. Portia's the best part. . .

Ellen DeGeneres Urges Californians to Vote No on 8

Mormons and evangelicals have teamed up to try and pass Proposition 8 in California, to remove the currently legal right for same-sex couples to marry. This would leave currently married same-sex couples (I'm half of one of them) in legal limbo, and take away the right from couples in the future.

As I've written in other posts, this issue is no longer hypothetical in California. It's not what might happen if same-sex marriage were legal. It's already legal, and the world kept right on spinning. My marriage has harmed no one and nothing. All of the fear-mongering is illusory and bogus.

Popular daytime TV host Ellen DeGeneres recently married gorgeous TV actress Portia de Rossi, and she has something to say about Proposition 8. Watch.

Ellen Degeneres & Portia de Rossi Legally Married

Photo from source, BBC News

Woo-hoo! Way to go, girls! I seriously love Ellen DeGeneres, and am thrilled that she's found happiness with the gorgeous and talented Portia de Rossi. . .and legally married her! Yes, she's joined your trailblazing Greenlee Gazette editor, and gotten hitched in California! While I can't be sure that she made this decision after hearing of my wedding to The Other Half, I can delude myself into thinking so.

Seriously though, congratulations to both. I hope they have many, many years of wedded bliss, and that they continue to produce such entertaining work.

Ellen DeGeneres to Marry Portia de Rossi

Don't worry, I'm not going to saturate the blog with The Gay Thing, but the decision in California to allow same-sex marriage is a watershed event. While I believe it would be prudent to not count the chickens yet--these things very often get stonewalled by desperate conservatives--it is exciting. And I just love Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. So let's let them have their moment, all righty?

Oh, and a note on all the videos: it's just sort of a coincidence that so many of the recent posts have a video associated with them. I don't like to over rely on "The You Tubes," but it does give readers something to do besides read. Just the same, I'll try to find a few other things. Now, on with the video.

Ellen Degeneres' Emotional Appeal for Change

Everybody knows that Ellen DeGeneres is a gay woman--it was right there on People Magazine. But with rare exceptions, the most political thing Ellen ever does these days is be herself. She rarely makes a big issue of it, particularly in the years since her ABC show, and her relationship with Anne Heche. She found herself the victim of a vicious backlash at the time, and it's surprising (and wonderful) that she's mounted such an effective comeback.

On her "Leap Year" show, Ellen decided to get political again--if only for a few minutes--to highlight a very serious topic: the murder of Lawrence (Larry) King, a gay middle schooler, over a Valentine wish. Ellen handles the topic with warmth and emotion, and a call for change. Take a look.

The Other Half: My Girl, Kristin

Posted by Nevada Joe

I have become a big fan of Kristin Chenoweth within the last 6 months. She has an amazing voice, is classically trained for the Opera, and has taken broadway by storm with Edina Menzel in Wicked. Sadly she and Edina had moved on to other venues by the time I heard the music from Wicked and fell in love with them both. And if having a voice like that isn't enough, she also has amazing acting chops.

So, watch the videos below and get on the bandwagon. Keep an eye on Ellen, as Kristin appears on her show frequently, as well as The View, and the late night shows on occasion. When the writer strike is over look for Kristin on Pushing Daisies, she is a regular on it. Some of my friends have been lucky enough to see Wicked with the original cast and have referred to it as the best show they have ever seen on Broadway, I am envious to say the least.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Yes, I'm indulging The Other Half in an area that I'm sadly deficient in. Hopefully, I can encourage him to continue posting these sorts of pieces, to add a little variety to what can be sadly depressing here, what with all my political postings.

As always, remember that these YouTube posts tend to disappear without notice. If you notice that one is gone, please let me know at the email link above left. Thanks!

Icelandic Teen Figures Out Bush's Phone Number

Photo from source, RawStory
I'll admit it, I'm posting this mostly for the picture. How could I not? Heh.

[From BigHeadDC, via Raw Story]

An Icelandic teen, MSNBC reports, figured out President Bush’s private phone number, and called it recently, leaving a message saying he was the president of Iceland and wanted Bush to call him back. When police visited the teen, after being alerted by Secret Service, he would not say how he learned the top-secret number. Big Head DC is speculating that he somehow deciphered the code from when Jenna Bush called her parents during a recent taping of the Ellen show.

Ellen Comes Out - 10 Years Ago

In honor of National Coming Out Day (October 11, technically yesterday, but it is a weekend festival here in Las Vegas), here is a bit of the famous "Puppy Episode" of Ellen. This is the one where Ellen finally confirmed what we all knew. It eventually sunk the show, but as much because ABC stopped promoting it as anything else.

Anyway, the episode was brilliant, and Ellen is now back on top (er, so to speak), so let's celebrate! After the video, stay tuned for links to other Ellen clips. There are several longer cuts from this episode there. Enjoy.
