What Happens in Vegas White Castle Restaurant to Open on the Strip

Hat tip to my rival/friend Dan, for this wonderful news! I don't get down to the strip very often, but I may have to make an exception now and then for authentic White Castle hamburgers! I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where the only real "sliders" are an institution. My regular order is five cheeseburgers (technically a little too much, but four is not enough), and onion chips with ketchup. They're freaking awesome.

But they're also a challenge, and a potential hazard. Let me explain. A White Castle meal can be sort of like fast food roulette. Don't ask me why, but about one time out of ten, they cause a bit of gastrointestinal distress. For this, they earned the name, "Belly Bombers." Come to think of it, that might be where "sliders" comes from too. Doesn't matter, they're worth the risk, and whether you call them Whitey-One-Bites, greasers, WCs or any of the above,  I absolutely love them. And I'm hoping
that the new Las Vegas location is open 24 hours like all of their other stores, just for that authentic experience.

So, now that we've got the Porcelain Palace, can we finally get some good pizza? I nominate Donato's. And while were at it, how about Skyline Chili?

White Castle may finally come to Vegas

The immensely popular White Castle burgers may be finally finding a permanent home in Las Vegas. The burger chain will reportedly open it’s first Las Vegas restaurant at the Best Western Plus Casino Royale, if documents obtained by Eater are any indication. . .

Kumar Goes to the White House!

Photo from source, Raw Story

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle is one of those movies that trap me, whenever I happen upon it on TV. Even though I own the DVD, I still stop if I see it, and have to watch until the end. It's goofy, it's juvenile, it's loaded with inappropriate humor and drugs. . .and I love every minute of it. Well, maybe not the dream sequence where Kumar is married to a bag of pot, but everything else.

Since becoming as enamored with that film as I am with the titular White Castle burgers, I started noticing one of its stars, Kal Penn. He turned up as one of Lex Luthor's henchmen in Superman Returns. He was a bad guy on 24. He showed up as one of the doctors on House M.D. There was a sequel called Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, which wasn't as good as the first, but still was enjoyable. And then I noticed that he was turning up at events for Barack Obama.

Now, he's putting his money where his mouth is, giving up White Castle and House for the White House! Cool.

'Kumar' actor leaves White Castle for White House

Though his character was just killed off on 'House,' fans of Kal Penn can expect to see the actor-turned-government employee around --in his new job as a public liaison with President Obama's White House. . .

Harold & Kumar's Kal Penn Talks with Keith Olbermann

You'd think a guy who has seen Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle a dozen times would have by now seen the sequel, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. I really need to get out more. Meanwhile, Kal Penn sat down for an interview on Countdown with Keith Olbermann tonight, which makes me want to see it more! Check it out.

Movies I Can't Wait to See: Harold & Kumar 2

I confess. I love stupid movies. No, scratch that, I love smart stupid movies. Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle is one of my favorite comedies. I own the DVD, and yet if I happen by an airing on Comedy Central or HBO, I invariably watch it through to the end.

Part of it is a long-time love of White Castle hamburgers, most likely. Also, the stars, John Cho and Kal Penn have great chemistry, and co-star Neil Patrick Harris is hysterically funny. They came together for a slapstick pothead movie that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Now they've made a sequel, Harold & Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay. If they keep the humor level as high (pun intended) as the first film, and maybe throw in a little Bush bashing (how could they not given the title), I'll be happy. It will also be interesting how they deal with openly gay Neil Patrick Harris--who played a version of himself in the first film, as a heterosexual horn-dog.
