CNN's Rick Sanchez Fired Over Remarks About Jon Stewart

Image from source, Washington Post
Mark down another CNN show cancelled with the help of Jon Stewart. Kinda.  A few years ago, Stewart appeared on the shouting heads show, Crossfire, pretty much single-handedly leading to the show's cancellation.  Friday, it was Rick Sanchez's show Rick's List, but it wasn't Stewart directly that got Sanchez fired.  It was a bizarre anti-Semitic rant by Sanchez on a radio program, specifically about Stewart.

Stewart has picked on Sanchez regularly on The Daily Show, making him out to be something of a big doofus.  And he does seem to be that.  There have been a couple of rants by Sanchez that I agreed with, but I guess a guy who is unafraid--or stupid enough--to just let loose on air is going to hit on something that resonates occasionally.  But really, Sanchez's "woe is me, only I'm oppressed" take on things is particularly weird. Yes, he has a Hispanic last name, and is from Cuba. But he's a also a traditionally handsome man, with a daily program on a national news network. This guy has been discriminated against? Really?

Okay, I'll concede that there are a lot of bigoted people--Sanchez is apparently one of them--and that even a successful TV hunk could find himself on the receiving end of bigotry.  But who hasn't?  I'm a white guy, and would not presume to get into a "who is more oppressed" argument. But I'm also gay, liberal and agnostic.  I've been on the receiving end of prejudice plenty, in person and online.  But what am I gonna do, blame it on the Jews? C'mon.  Good for CNN for canning this guy so quickly.  I'm sure he thinks the Jews who control TV are responsible though.

By the way, his book is aptly named. . .

CNN's Rick Sanchez fired after explosive interview on satellite radio

CNN fired Rick Sanchez on Friday afternoon in response to a radio interview on a SiriusXM radio show during which Sanchez called Comedy Central late-night host Jon Stewart a "bigot" and implied that the media as a whole are controlled by Jews. Appearing on "Stand Up! With Pete Dominick" to promote his new book, "Conventional Idiocy," Sanchez went on to assert that he has been the victim of discrimination at the cable news network. . .

CNN's Howard Kurtz Calls FOX "News" on Lie

Rick Sanchez did it last week, and now Howard Kurtz has joined the fray. I'll not be surprised to see Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow join the fight tomorrow. It is long past time for the true nature of FOX "News" to be called out for what it is.

CNN's Rick Sanchez Calls out FOX "News" For Lying. . .AGAIN

OK, so it is not difficult to prove that FOX "News" lies. They offer up so much ammunition. It's also not difficult to offer forth examples with transcripts and video. Media Matters for America does it every day. But who are you gonna believe, FOX "News" or your lyin' eyes?

Rick Sanchez is a host that I'm not overly familiar with, outside of a few stellar online video clips. And here is another one of them doing something rare for cable news: calling a blatant lie a lie. The weirdest part is, for "FOX Fans," this will prove nothing. If I get any responses to this post, I'll predict that they have zero to do with what Sanchez said. They'll pick apart CNN and Sanchez, support FOX "News" and ignore the lie. It's what they always do.

CNN's Rick Sanchez Grills Anti-Health Reform Leader Rick Scott

Most of us would suffer in comparison to Rick Sanchez, with his made-for-TV-news looks, but that Rick Scott guy just looks John Waters creepy, doesn't he? And not in a good way. Plus he oozes insincerity. Or maybe he just oozes. Sanchez does an admirable job grilling him.

CNN's Rick Sanchez Puts Obama Birth Certificate Issue to Bed

To any reasonable, rational person, the issue of President Barack Obama's "natural born citizenship" is really pretty settled. But to an increasing number of wingnut "birthers," Obama is some sort of clandestine illegal immigrant usurper to the throne. Which is really--let's face it--a racist conspiracy theory to somehow square the fact that a black person became President without, you know, actually being President. It's all very stupid, and crazy. And this video ought to put it to rest. But it won't.

CNN's Rick Sanchez OWNS FOX's Bill O'Reilly

I don't watch CNN much, and have watched Rick Sanchez even less. But this bit proving Bill O'Reilly--the FOX "News" blowhard--hopelessly wrong is priceless.

CNN Reporter Gives "Joe the Plumber" the Lack of Respect He Deserves

This commentary by CNN's Rick Sanchez, regarding Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher is priceless. If you haven't been following the ludicrous side of the news lately, "Joe" is now a war correspondent, and he's as clumsy and bad at that as you'd imagine. For some reason, he's still a conservative folk hero, though I've seen no evidence--short of his Sarah Palin/George W. Bush buffoonery--that supports such a notion. Anyway, enjoy a skillful take-down by an actual reporter.
