CPAC Confuses Me. . .A Lot

OK, so this Jimmy Kimmel-looking young Republican dude, Ryan Sorba, gets up and has a snit fit about a gay group (he calls it Go-Pride, it's GOProud) at CPAC. He gives a half-assed justification for gay rights not being "natural rights". . .I lost him in there somewhere. To follow his logic, a lot of straight people ought to be discriminated against due to their "non-procreative" sex acts. An-ee-way, Sorba was greeted by boos and heckling. At a conservative confab! I know!

After reading some right-wing sites like FreeRepublic, I thought all these right-wingers were on the "gay is icky" page, but apparently not. And then, get this: after Sorba takes his douchey ass off the stage, the lady moderating repeats over and over, "freedom of opinion!" Freedom of what now? Is that in the Constitution somewhere? I'm surprised she didn't get booed for not being a strict constructionist.

Stephen Colbert Interviews Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL)

Aaron Schock is the youngest member of Congress, and a Republican. He is notable for a couple of things so far, such as the fact that he semi-famously rebuked Barack Obama after a meeting with the President. Also, he has a (more famous) beefcake photo circulating. The fact that he is single has also led to gossip about his sexuality, which Stephen Colbert very subtly alludes to by flirting with him. In a comic way of course.

Joe the Plumber to Advise Young Conservatives!

I've been going on about the disastrous appearance of Bobby Jindal on Tuesday, and don't worry this post isn't about him. But it is about one of the other stellar lights in today's GOP: Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher! This guy has gone from a disingenuous non-plumber, asking the future President Obama a question about taxes that was loaded with falsehoods, to a war correspondent who thought war correspondents should be outlawed. He's had several rumored and confirmed sidelines, from book writer, to country singer, to GOP economic advisor.

And now, he's going to be "advising" the green little up-and-coming Republican Youth! Brilliant!

CPAC Agenda: Joe The Plumber To Advise Young Conservatives As Panelist

On Thursday, conservatives will be descending on Washington DC, the place they like to slam the most, to galvanize their mission to take back Congress and the presidency. Reports say this year's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) will bring in record numbers despite it not being a midterm or presidential election year. According to The Washington Times, 7,000 people attended last year and 9,000 are expected this year. . .

From the Other Side: Iowa College Republican

This blog gets top-heavy with liberal opinion and news pieces, and I've been criticised (by my Mom of all people!) for being too one-sided. So how about this for an idea? I'll let a conservative, in fact a College Republicans leader, give you his ideology in his own words! How's that for fair and balanced?

Things I learned: Being involved in politics means giving up your social life. The Iraq War was retribution for the attack on 9/11. And soldiers love nothing more than a big ol' bag of beef jerky. Oh, and "irregardless" is apparently a word. The big question that remains unanswered is why this able-bodied, young war supporter isn't actually over there fighting the war, instead of collecting hundreds of dollars for the effort. Oh well, don't ask, don't tell I always say.
