Snow Falls in Vegas, Which is Cool

Yeah, I know, the blog is still light even though the big holiday stretch is over. Sorry. Having motivation problems. Plus, haven't you heard, I'm on a diet and stopped smoking. That might tell you exactly how many active brain cells I'm working with.

But it is true that it snowed here in Las Vegas on Monday, and that was pretty cool. I'd heard we might get it, but just saw moist earth here when I left for work for my first day of 2011. Bare minutes later, I was driving into snow flurries, and minutes after that, the snow was driving into my car!  We got no accumulation, since it was in the high 30s, which is unfortunate. But the mountains that ring the Las Vegas valley got plenty, and it'll stay there lookin' purty for some time.  Meanwhile, I'll try harder to get into the blogging mood, and bring you more interesting things than winter happening in the wintertime. Sorry.

Frivolity Break: Paul Lynde Does the Weather!

I couldn't find anything that felt blogworthy for my first Wednesday post (at least nothing that you haven't already heard about), so it's time for the Frivolity Break grab bag. And looky who's in the bag--literally--Paul Lynde! As a weatherman.  Lots of weathermen have had rumors swirl around them that they're gay, but none swirl as well as Lynde. How could people have been confused about him? I guess it was different in the 70s. Enjoy!

Bad Weather, God Angry?

I have a full schedule today, so posting will be light. Breakfast and dinner plans, plus, The Other Half returns after a four-day trip. So, stuff to do, and a gorgeous day to do it in.

Which makes it difficult to picture some of the truly crappy weather in other parts of the country. Frozen flooding? Ice jams? Tornadoes? Here in Las Vegas at 9:00 am, it is 67 degrees, sunny, and a gentle breeze is blowing. The last few days have been replete with idyllic spring weather, something that only lasts for a few weeks before the wall of fire known as summer arrives.

So, please understand that this post isn't intended to make fun of other people for their bad weather (much). And I don't find anything amusing about a church being destroyed by a tornado, only that there is a measure of irony there. Though this photo was staged, it reminds me of a similar happening in Central America years ago, when a tornado wiped out a church, and it was hailed as a miracle that a statue of Jesus survived. This event was proclaimed as a "miracle," though to me, it looked like JC saving his own butt, to heck with everybody else. But I'm a heretic that way.
