Right Wing World: Cheney and Palin and More, Oh My!

In my previous post, I ranted about the idiocy of presenting Dick Cheney (or countless others) on the Sunday political shows, and holding them out as some sort of authority on foreign policy. Or anything else. I left out John McCain and his swooning buddy, Lindsey Graham, both of who appear so often on those shows, they should be noted as the Senators from Meet the Press, rather than the states they allegedly represent. But my rant was just to let out steam. I should know by now that I am but a humble, hobbyist blogger, and that there are pros out there who do it better.

But the nice thing is, I can share their work, and still feel like I did something! And oddly enough, it does make me feel better. This is from a great site that focuses mostly on FOX "News," but you can apply it across the board.

Right Wing World: FOX "News" Attacks Obama on Brazil Trip, Other Crap

By now, it is obvious that it doesn't matter what President Barack Obama does or says (or doesn't say or do) that will garner a positive response from a big chunk of right-wing world. It's also clear that talk radio and FOX "News" work in tandem to set the narrative, and let all their followers know the storyline: Obama's dithering. He's too slow to act. He's not a leader. He didn't ask Congress! He jumped in without permission! Often this leads to contradictory storylines, sometimes from the same talking head. But it doesn't matter. Cognitive dissonance is par for the course.

But it just sounds kind of desperate when they start whining about the first lady, the kids, the extended family. The very notion that if the President is in South America, he's just tra-la-la on vacation, and not doing anything else. Obama's itinerary is probably busier on any given day than most of us tackle in a very busy month. It is evident that Obama has finally clued in to the notion that the right is going to hate him--and gin up faux controversies--no matter what, and isn't caring as much anymore. Good for him.

Glenn Beck Completes the FOX "News" Bizarro World

Some people (including those at Saturday Night Live) deride Rachel Maddow for her snark, facial expressions, and sarcasm. Beneath her silliness, is a big juicy brain, with a Rhodes Scholarship to prove it. But while Rachel may be MSNBC's newest star, FOX "News" has a newer, bigger one.

In contrast to Rachel, Glenn Beck--a self-proclaimed "self educated" boob--is almost entirely snarky and goofy. From the opposite side of the political spectrum of course. I suffered through only one episode of his program, and have only caught clips on the internet to confirm my view. I didn't think it was possible to like someone less than I like Sean Hannity. But there it is. Still, Beck is laughing all the way to the bank, and now has one of the highest rated programs in cable "news." Go figure. Anyway, I thought this was appropriate for April Fool's Day.
