Jeb Bush Thinks History Will Look Kindly on His Brother

Which brother is that, Jeb. . .Neil? Because if you mean your brother George, you are still inside that bubble Mitt Romney was in when he thought he was going to win so handily.

[Excerpt]

Jeb Bush: 'History will be kind to my brother'

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush says that the public will view his older brother, former president George W. Bush, more favorably as time passes. "In (my father's) four years as president a lot of amazing accomplishments took place," said Jeb Bush, the son of former President George H.W. Bush, during an interview on NBC's Meet the Press. "So my guess is that history will be kind to my brother, the further out you get from this and the more people compare his tenure to what's going on now. . ."

Hannity: Fox Is "Only Media Organization. . .Fair And Balanced Coverage" Of Obama

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

For bonus points, every time you hear Sean Hannity speak--particularly if he's addressing the camera/microphone--count how many times he starts a sentence with "Hey," or "Now," or even "Hey, now. . ." This pinhead has a limited repertoire.

Newt Gingrich's Epic, Delusional Florida Speech

As promised earlier, here's Newtie Patootie's crazy, nutball promise to America of what he'll do in the unlikely event he is elected President. Notice that it is not a concession speech to Mitt Romney.

Newt Gingrich Gives Delusional List of Promises (If You Elect Him)

Image from C-Span
Wow! After losing in Florida's primary by an embarrassing margin (and after Mitt Romney's and Rick Santorum's speeches), Newt Gingrich just gave a doozy of a speech. It was not a concession speech. In fact, I'm not even sure he mentioned, let alone congratulated Romney. It was a revved up stump speech, an almost demented list of promises.

Newt isn't only going to end "ObamaCare," he's going to do it an hour after the inauguration! He won't simply decline to appoint "czars," he'll draft an immediate executive order banning them! You know Dodd-Frank, the only meaningful attempt at reigning in Wall Street after the financial meltdown? Newtie's going to have his (apparently puppet) Congress undo it in hour two! He's off-his-rocker bananas if he really thinks he can do all of that and more. If he doesn't, he's just being a giant dick (like that is something new), who has contempt for the people he's trying to dupe into voting for him.

Here's more on Newt's speech from C-Span. I'll post a clip if it becomes available.

When Partisanship and Homophobia Lead to Paranoid Delusions

Image from Progressive Nation
I know the blog has been more top heavy of late with the gay, and that's of course because the subject has been in the news a lot this summer.  Also in heavy rotation has been the odious conservative web site FreeRepublic.com.  That is because whenever a divisive issue hits the news, there is no better place to find the boiled down, uncensored, unvarnished conservative counterpoint.  They're like Sophia on The Golden Girls, if she were a slightly older Ann Coulter.  They're all id and no filter.

While perusing their reaction to former RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman's big "coming out," I stumbled into a related area.  I'm not going to pick apart the article they were jabbering about--a conservative's argument against same-sex marriage--because while it would be easy, it would also be very time consuming. Maybe later.  Anyway, what inspired this post was a single comment from a FReeper. One so incredibly paranoid, so blindingly stupid, that you would think it was an aberration.  Here it is (emphasis mine):

"The real motive is the complete destruction of the institution of marriage. This then completes the leftists' attack on this institution. The lefties had to get rid of the structure of the American family because it stood in the way of people being dependent on the government. "Gay marriage" is the last nail in the coffin. If marriage can mean ANY type of coupling, then it means nothing at all. And, that is the point." --LibertarianLiz

This is--amazingly enough--a typical FReeper mindset on this subject and many others. It assigns a motive to a group they see as "other," a motive they don't have any more way of knowing than they do about the others themselves.  I'm one half of an actual married gay couple.  I have never had as a motive the "complete destruction of the institution of marriage." I've never met another gay person with that motive. In fact, I've never seen such a motive alleged anywhere outside of a forum like FreeRepublic.

It takes a special kind of paranoia to actually believe that gays are monolithic and diabolical enough to get together and frame issues, present them to the public in a deceitful way, and keep it all secret. Not to mention that this Gay Squadron is only one piece of the "Lefty Legion." The gays are one cog in the greater Lefty machine, playing their part to destroy marriage, and then the WORLD!!! I can't comprehend when and where they think this all happened.  Who led the rally? Are there membership cards?  Am I supposed to get a gift or recognition from "gay central" for playing my part?

It's a lot like conservatives who say that President Obama's end game is to "destroy America." Really? He set out to get the job with that as his goal?  And they say this with an utterly straight face.

The worst spats I've ever had with friends or family have all stemmed from the assumption of motivation.  "He didn't call me because. . ." or "Well, she said one thing, but what she really meant was. . ."  Assigning motivations to other people without really knowing what their actual motivations are is almost never a good idea.

But in the world of FR, especially when it comes to what they call "The Homosexual Agenda" is that all gay people are lying, and only rigidly anti-gay conservatives really know what's going on.  I'm here to tell them here and now: your assumptions are wrong.  And paranoid. And delusional.  And if you're this wrong about this subject, how much should anybody trust your other opinions?  'Nuff said.

Rachel Maddow Analyzes Bush's Farewell Speech

Ex-Clinton Supporters Set Up Hilarious Web Site

Image from source, Wonkette

This is a funny story crossed with a scary one. I've already written a few times about the strange phenomenon of disgruntled Hillary Clinton supporters who defiantly oppose Barack Obama and support John McCain. I've pointed out the sour-grapiness of the whole thing, and the spiteful cutting off of their noses. And I've learned a couple of things: 1) They're still angry, and refuse to cool off, and 2) They apparently only cared that Hillary Clinton get elected, but didn't give a damn about anything she stood for.

This group has started setting up shop on the internets. There are several sites dedicated to the disaffected group. Very likely, some are Republicans up to mischief, leading these angry flies into the spider's chamber. Others are probably serious. Either way (or both), they are chock full of some seriously troubled people.

That doesn't mean that there isn't humor to be found in this sad turn of events. Case in point is the site in this excerpt. The spelling is atrocious. The points are incoherent. The site is rife with spelling errors. The layout and design is archaic--and visually jarring. And it is all--to this blogger/graphic designer--hilarious. Hillarious? Check it out.

Hilltards Create World’s Dumbest Website

1996 called, and it wants its crappy GeoCities “home page” back where it belongs, in 1996. Here is the one and only monument to the great movement of angry middle-aged white ladies who managed to graduate high school: 35,000 of them got together and built the world’s lamest website — you must visit it; the letters blink on and off! — with the memorable domain name of “hcsfjm.com,” which stands for “hot c** sandwich for John McCain. . .”

Michelangelo Signorile on 'Insane' Clinton Supporters

Unless the attitudes of some of the more ardent Clinton supporters starts to simmer down, I'm going to keep posting stories and clips about the topic. It would be easy to dismiss the phenomenon of "McCain Democrats" as nothing more than a handful of grieving Clinton supporters, and Rush Limbaugh "Operation Chaos" posers.

But this attitude is the overwhelming majority in the HillaryClinton.com blog. Not some obscure, nutty site, but the official Clinton one. As I've said in previous posts, they have an irrational hatred for Barack Obama, and think the nomination has been stolen. Perhaps some of this will die down, and their balloons will land. But until they do--or if it is discovered that their numbers are actually a handful--I'm going to keep posting clips like this one.

Here, radio host Michelangelo Signorile confronts a Clinton disciple. Watch.

What is Wrong with Clinton's Die-hard Supporters? UPDATED

Image from Illseed

There has been talk for many months about Hillary Clinton's die-hard supporters refusing to support or vote for Barack Obama. They've been said to be so dead set against him that they'll stay home on election day, or vote for John McCain. I viewed this as little more than sour grapes, and figured that after a little time to mourn, they'd pretty much all come around.

Then came last night, and Clinton's peculiar speech indicating that she was going to press on. That seems less likely now, but last night, she urged her supporters to visit HillaryClinton.com to give her ideas of what to do next.

So, I went there. I had a little difficulty finding where the people were commenting, but it turned out that it was in the comments section of Clinton's blog. And what I found was stunning, somewhat mesmerizing, and completely bizarre. The overwhelming majority of commenters quite vehemently hate Barack Obama. They're fairly vague and nonspecific about why, but they mostly claimed that they wouldn't even vote for him if Clinton was on the ticket (go there, if you don't believe me).

Worse, most of them are enthusiastic about voting for John McCain, who they see as second best to Hillary Clinton! The combination of Hillary Love and unabashed Barack Hatred was astonishing, and more than a little creepy. I understand that these folks are feeling a bit of the "Kübler-Ross model" of the stages of grief. They're feeling a combination of stages 1, 2, 3 and 4: Denial, Anger, Bargaining and Depression. But they're so dedicated to their cause, I fear that they won't progress to step 5: Acceptance. But I'd like to help them get there.

I've peppered the labels section at the bottom of this post with some incendiary words to try to lure some of them here with a Google search, to ask them a few questions. The words are only for that purpose, not intended to express any personal insults. But if it worked, and you are a Clinton supporter that fits the description above, I'd personally love answers to these points.

  1. If you are a Clinton supporter, why would John McCain--whose positions are 180-degrees from Hillary's--be a better choice than Obama, whose policy positions are virtually identical to hers?

  2. What did Barack Obama ever personally do or say to Hillary Clinton that would brew such vitriol from you?

  3. Does it concern you that McCain would likely fill one or two Supreme Court Justice slots with conservatives, turning the whole court to the right, and probably overturning Roe V. Wade?

  4. Even if you're angry with the DNC about their alleged treatment of Clinton, why take it out on Obama, and by extension the whole country?

  5. What exactly did the DNC do to Clinton, specifically? And for that matter, does reporting the reality of the delegate math automatically put the news media "in the tank" for Obama?

  6. Does Hillary Clinton get a complete pass for everything she did in the campaign, from saying that Obama doesn't pass the Commander-in-Chief test, to heaping praise on McCain?

  7. Do you think there is any possible way Clinton could win the Presidency if she ran as an independent? Really? Are you unaware that she'd split the Democratic vote, and that McCain would win in a shoo-in?
Thank you for your time.

UPDATE:
Having just spent a great deal of time at HillaryClinton.com, and reading many of the comments, I've come to a couple of conclusions. First, they apparently hate Barack Obama mostly just because he beat Clinton. Second, they are so enamored of Clinton, they believe she did everything right, and nothing wrong in her campaign. They believe that everyone was out to get her, and conspired against her: Barack Obama, the media, the Democratic National Committee, everyone.

They remind me of a woman (or man) who has found that their partner has cheated on them. The wronged partner automatically hates the "other woman" or in this case, "other man." Their grief is palpable, and their response is understandable, if completely irrational. I really do fear for their emotional well being. Hopefully, this condition is limited to the relatively small amount of posters in the "Hillary Family" at HillaryClinton.com.
