Petraeus issued a statement announcing his resignation, saying, "After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Gen. David Petraeus on Gitmo and Torture

Image from MoveOn.org

The image in this post is from a long ago faux outrage-inducing MoveOn.org ad that Republicans ranted about for a couple of news cycles. They were aghast, appalled, disgusted that the liberal group--and by extension all liberals--would say such a thing about a great American hero.

But now that Gen. David Petraeus is on record basically echoing President Obama's sentiments on torture and Guantanamo Bay, I predict that those same people are going to begin using "Betray Us" to describe him, whattaya bet?

Last week, Gen. David Petraeus told Radio Free Europe that he
supports President Obama’s decision to close the Guantanamo Bay prison and that he opposes the use of so-called “enhance interrogation techniques.” “I have long been on record as having testified and also in helping write doctrine for interrogation techniques that are completely in line with the Geneva Convention,” Petraeus said. . .

Patraeus Prepares to Pull Out

Photo from source, Raw Story

In our society, few people get to be venerated as gods. But there are a few who come close, at least in the adulation they get from the mainstream media, or at least in the prominent political parties. Ronald Reagan went from popular President to less so, to deity over the course of a few years. And General David Patraeus has probably been held higher aloft than any figure in present day politics than anyone since St. Ron.

When MoveOn.org dared to question the General several months ago, they were lambasted by the Republican Party, and by dutiful journalists as traiters or worse. Since then, John McCain has sited Patraeus as though his word were written on golden plates. McCain even gave Patraeus credit for things he had no control over. Now, in just over a week, Patraeus is giving up control over that which he did have responisibility for.

Will we now be beholden to Lieutenant-General Raymond Odierno?
