Egg Paranoia! from Pink Flamingos

I wanted to serve you up a big mess of bloggy goodness this morning, kids. But the eggs, they're not safe!  Oh, if only I could be reassured about the future of eggs.  Maybe by a 400-pound transvestite!

Actually, I was having difficulty finding something to post for Thursday, and I remembered this gem from John Waters' Pink Flamingos. While the film itself is definitely Not Safe for Work (NSFW), the clip is fine. Oh, it's disturbing--that is a woman in a playpen--but it's safe for work.  If you've never seen Pink Flamingos, this will make absolutely no sense to you.  And if you've seen it. . .well, it still doesn't make any sense!  Enjoy.

Stuck on Crazy: Queen of Birthers, Orly Taitz

To quote Motormouth Maybelle of John Waters' Hairspray, "Oh Papa Tooney. We've got a Looney!" Even Waters couldn't have dreamt up Orly Taitz, queen of the "birthers." Though I wouldn't be surprised if he either based a character on her, or even used her in a future movie. She's absolutely bananas. Shut down at every turn during her quest to prove that President Obama is ineligible to hold office, she just keeps going like a daffy Energizer Bunny in an Eva Gabor wig.

Birther Orly Taitz Compares Self To Mandela, Wants Judge Tried For Treason

In an interview with TPM just now, Birther evangelist Orly Taitz fired back at Clay Land, the U.S. district court judge who tore apart Birtherism and threatened Taitz with sanctions in an order today, saying that "somebody should consider trying [the judge] for treason and aiding and abetting this massive fraud known as Barack Hussein Obama. . ."

The Movie Version of McClellan's What Happened?

With all of the Bush scandals receiving new attention, thanks to the publication of Scott McClellen's tell-all book, What Happened, I am reminded of a little art project I slapped together a few years ago, covering a couple of them.

Here is another of my creations, from a couple of years ago. Picture it: Spring 2005, and revelations about a man named Jeff Gannon were setting the blogs (but sadly not the mainstream media) on fire. Also, there were rumors that the man the Freepers called "Rove, you magnificent bastard!" was possibly--just maybe--gonna be implicated in the Plame affair. I didn't have an outlet yet for my political and artistic frustrations, but that didn't stop me from creating. So without further ado (and with apologies to and appreciation for John Waters), I bring you Pink Elephants!

Sometimes inspiration for blogging comes like a rushing river. Other times, it trickles down so low, it practically dries up. Tonight is one of those times. Bear with me, I'll try to come back later, and hopefully something will inspire me.

I love John Waters. OK, I don't know him, but everything I know of his tastes, his humor and his talents fall right in line with my outlook on the world. Sure, he's a little creepy looking (that probably helps with his image), and his early films were--shall we say--extreme. But the great thing about him is that he knows exactly what buttons to push to get a positive response from his fans, and a negative response from everybody else. He's like Andy Kaufman without the contempt for his audience.

And who could forget his guest starring role on The Simpsons, in one of their best episodes, "Homer's Phobia?" It set the standard for laughs per minute on that series. It also included a whaaa??? moment, with the robotic Santa Claus.

Anyway, John has a list of favorite movies, which are of course strange, and he's shared them with NPR. So if you want to enliven your video viewing time this weekend, check it out!
