Orly Taitz Gets to Finish on The Stephanie Miller Show

After a back-and-forth of commentary on The Stephanie Miller Show, about Orly Taitz, followed by an internet message from Orly about Steph (and so on), a meeting was finally set up. The on-air crew was skeptical that the birther queen would actually show up, but she ultimately did.

I heard the interview on the radio at work, so I'm kind of sorry that this video clip is so short. It was actually quite a good interview, with Steph asking questions in a measured, cool way. Not respectful, not exactly. I mean, could you pull that off? But she managed not to ruffle Orly's feathers while getting some digs in.

The whole birther conspiracy theory ought to have played out by now, since their entire premise is shaky. There is zero evidence that Mrs. Obama was ever in Kenya, and it is difficult to put together any story that would make sense. In addition, every part of their splintered, multi-track conspiracy theory has been debunked (go here, if you don't believe me). So, Orly is singing a tired song. Still, it was entertaining radio.

Orly Taitz to Appear on Stephanie Miller Show Tuesday Morning!

Queen birther and lost Gabor sister, Orly Taitz, will appear on The Stephanie Miller Show in the 9:00 am Pacific hour on Jun 26. If you've forgotten about the birthers, you could be forgiven. But every so often, their mass delusion infects even elected officials, so they're worth keeping an eye on. And it's worth the reminder--via Orly--that these people are ca-rayyyyy-zeee! I will be impressed if Orly actually shows up, more impressed if she stays for the entire segment, startled if she doesn't say, "let me finnish!!!" and flabbergasted if Step gets her to answer a question with, "Moose and squirrel."

Orly Taitz NOT a Winner in Senate Primary

California had a weird primary this year, dumping all of the candidates--Republican, Democrat and otherwise--into one primary election, with the two top winners facing off in November. Why? Yeah, I don't know. Anyway, the one big worry was that "Birther Queen" Orly Taitz could have been in the #2 slot for Senate after Diane Feinstein.

Orly (a word that is short for "oh, really?" in internet speak) Taitz is the seemingly crazy lost Gabor sister. She is--if I'm not mistaken--a lawyer/dentist/real estate agent. And she is on a loony crusade to get President Obama ejected from the White House on the grounds that he is ineligible to be President. She has many different reasons for this, from his "fake" birth certificate(s), alleged numerous Social Security numbers, some strange stuff about him being adopted, dual or renounced citizenship, just all kinds of stuff. Some of it self-contradictory.

I could go on and on about Orly, but I won't. She--luckily for the California and national GOP--will not be a candidate for Senate. Her quixotic quest to unseat Obama has seen nothing but defeat, and sometimes punishment from the judiciary. As such, unless she goes on a murderous rampage, has sex reassignment surgery or reveals herself to be Andy Kaufmann, I expect this to be my last post, ever on Dr. Orly Taitz, Esq.

Arpaio: Conspiracy bigger than Watergate

I have an honest question. Is Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona stupid? Is he gullible, easily duped? Is he easily confused? Or is he, perhaps, an opportunistic, lying, fame whore limelight seeker?  Because, the whole "birther" conspiracy theory set. . .they're bonkers. They're nuts. Their head cheerleader is the daffy Orly Taitz, the Gabor-like combination lawyer/dentist/realtor. Every, single (and I mean every, single) claim in this ridiculous theory has been debunked. Over and over again.

I'll give you a quick one: They say to this day that President Obama's "grandmother" admitted that Obama was born in Kenya. A) she was his step-grandmother, and B) she was being mistranslated, and corrected the record in the same interview. They just cut that part out. That's how they work in tinfoil hat land. But Arpaio's corner of the conspiracy is the birth certificate.

For years, the birthers said--seemingly every other sentence--that if Obama just released his "long form" birth certificate, "all of this would just go away." The conspiracy would go poof, and they'd go on with their lives. But they didn't. Because, you see, all a good conspiracy theory needs is more layers. And--unwittingly--the White House gave them more layers. Boy, howdy.

You see, the electronic version of the Hawaii certified certificate of live birth was scanned into Adobe Reader. If you do that on default settings, the scanner tries to break the image into sections, ostensibly for optical character recognition (OCR), but who knows what good it actually does. It's kind of random, as you might expect for a computer that can't think or reason. So, when you open the file in a graphics program, you watch it assemble itself before your eyes. I got a half step into conspiracy world for about ninety seconds. Because, hey, it has layers!

Very quickly, I realized, a) this is not the actual document, it's a scan of it; b) if they were going to forge the document, they'd do it on the physical specimen, not in the online version; and c) the White House has resources most forgers couldn't dream of. If they were going to forge it, it would be fucking undetectable. But conspiracy theorists don't try to step out of their bubbles when presented with something new. No, they seek to incorporate whatever comes their way that feeds the conspiracy, and eject what doesn't. On the surface, the layers seem hinky. And that's really all they need.

Though my deductive reasoning concluded that the layered document was normal, I decided to perform an experiment, to see if Adobe Reader really behaved that way. If I could reproduce a similar effect, then I would be debunking the whole "layers" hoo-ha! So, I cobbled my ancient G4 PowerBook (since replaced) to my ancient-er HP ScanJet 3C, and scanned my City of Palm Springs Marriage Certificate. The results (and ensuing pointless argument with a birther) can be viewed here. And anybody thinking there is anything to birtherism (or Arpaio's tilting at windmills), should explore the site linked below. I'm serious: they debunk everything.

Birthers Score a Victory of Sorts

The birthers just won't go away. They started with President Obama's birth certificate, claiming it wasn't the "long form" or the "certificate of live birth." They insisted that the long form be released, and while they waited, they came up with endless loopy theories. When they ran up against 1961 birth announcements in two Hawaii newspapers, a bunch of birthers bailed. I mean, it takes a hell of a tinfoil hat to try to spin a theory that explains that one away. Still, some birthers have heavy duty foil and lots of time. Some still think Obama was born in Kenya or Canada or elsewhere.

Then, Obama released the danged long form, and the birthers gave up.

Just kidding. That probably peeled off quite a few more of them, but the true nuts are still on board. They said the long form was fraudulent, and had many "experts" "prove" it, by dissecting the "layers" in the White House's scan of the document. Let me say that again, this was the scan of the document, not the document itself that the birthers were examining. Zooming in, talking about pixels. . .it was insane. And I proved them wrong here.

Since the birth certificate thing just makes them sound nuts, the after-birthers arrived. They've mostly ditched that issue, and the issue of the President's birthplace, in favor of a variety of technical issues that they believe will retroactively disqualify Barack Obama, and send him packing. Things like Obama's dad having been born in Kenya, obscure legal theories on the term "natural born citizen," among others. They really think they're going to bounce Obama on a technicality.

They got a tiny glimmer of hope from a daft Georgia judge, who thinks he can compel a sitting President into his courtroom, so that Orly Taitz can go on a fishing expedition on this and other issues (she insists he's had several invalid Social Security numbers, among other things). Obama obviously will not go, and nothing is likely to come of this. But they'll keep tilting at that windmill, you can count on it.

Birther Queen Orly Taitz Running for Senate

Oh goddamn it, we're just done as a country! C'mon! We've got this roster of GOP cartoon characters in an endless debate reality show. Real reality stars take on the status of American Royalty. Creeps like Mitch McConnell and John Boner Boehner can be transparently trying to sink the economy, and seemingly not lose any support. "Birtherism" keeps rearing it's aggressively stupid head.


And now, the queen of the birthers, Zsa Zsa Gabor impersonator Orly Taitz is running for the U.S. Senate. The only thing that will cheer me up is if her opponent makes very public and successful mincemeat of her.

Overlooked Political Story: The 25%-ers Are Still Out there!

Who are the twenty-five percenters? Well, for me, they are the group that still had a high opinion of George W. Bush at the end of his presidency. They're the 25% who thought Brownie did a heckuva job. They are the people who still swoon over Sarah Palin.  They are in large part the Tea Party movement.  And they are still voting.

In California on Tuesday night, one of the most unpalatable candidates possible--Birther Queen Orly Taitz--won 26% of the Republican vote.  Here in Nevada, we ran one of the worst candidates to ever run for office--Greg Nance Dagani--and he got 25% of the Republican vote.  Are these all the same people? Oh there may be a little ebb and flow, but I suspect they're pretty much the same group.

Captain Obvious: President Obama is a Citizen, Birthers are Nuts

Captain Obvious is a feature at Greenlee Gazette, where I get up on my soapbox and opine on issues that should be obvious but for some reason aren't.

This edition of Captain Obvious is really obvious. President Barack Obama is a citizen of the United States, and the "Birthers" are bonkers.  The Birthers had their time in the sun, before they were replaced by the tea baggers (though surely, there are Birther tea baggers). But you can still find them--rather quickly--with a Google search, still spewing ridiculous theory after ridiculous theory.

Their initial and most pervasive claim was that Obama had not produced his "long form" birth certificate, and as such had not provided conclusive evidence that he was eligible for the Presidency. Now, why is he being asked to produce a document that (as far as I know) has never been requested from any other President? Why indeed.  And why is a man who has been an Illinois State Senator, and a US Senator, and has travelled all over the world with his US Passport suddenly believed to be a non-citizen when his "short form" Hawaii Birth Certificate was good enough for all of the above?

If the Birthers want a hospital copy of the document, with his little foot prints on it, I just have to wonder, why? I have an old, creased photo-negative of my "original" birth certificate somewhere. But I've long used a computer reproduction for identification purposes. It looks very much like the document that Obama has produced, and it looks nothing like the original.  But the new version is 100% legal as ID.  I suspect that for many Birthers, the long form request is a red herring.  They assume (and who knows, they may be right about this one thing) that there is something revealing or embarrassing on that long form.  Who knows what it is, maybe the parents weren't legally married, maybe they wrote something weird like "atheist" or "Muslim" somewhere on it. But that would all be irrelevant to his citizenship, wouldn't it?

But the Birther movement is very convoluted. The legitimacy of the birth certificate is just part of it. There's no logic involved at all. I mean, there were two birth announcements in the 1961 newspapers, which ought to kill the theories instantly. But they have all sorts of explanations and questions about those too (though none explain why his mother would have gone to such great lengths to make it appear that her son was natural born if he wasn't).  And while some Birthers have loosened up a little, and acknowledge that Obama is probably a citizen, they claim he isn't natural born. Wait, his mom was a citizen, and he was born in Hawaii, so what more do they need?

Well, they have a tortured theory based on Mrs. Obama's age at the time of his birth, and the fact that she lived abroad for a period of time after he was born, for one thing.  And their big one now is to claim that natural born only applies to those whose parents were both born in the United States.  And as we know, Mr. Obama Sr. was born in Kenya.  Ipso facto, not natural born! Sure.  If you forget that Chester Arthur didn't meet that requirement. Nor did many of the earlier Presidents. The first President born after 1776--the first year you could even possibly have been born in this country--was Martin Van Buren, whose parents' births predate the country.  Even Abraham Lincoln barely makes it, with his father being born in 1778, and his mom in 1784.  So, as you can see, their definition--even if true--is a non-starter. You can't pull the plug on Obama's presidency unless you're prepared to invalidate all the others who did not qualify.

Oh, I know there's probably another tortured explanation for that. Maybe "natural born" was grandfathered in until people were old enough to meet the requirement. But I doubt it. And it still doesn't explain President Arthur. And there is ample evidence that if Birthers accept this claim as utterly shot full of holes, they'll find something else. They are desperate to find something, anything, that will "prove" President Obama is illegitimate.  Kinda reminds me of the Bill Clinton "impeachment in search of a crime." I'd be confident that they couldn't pull off such a quixotic quest, were it not for the ridiculousness of that particular successful quest.

Fortunately, the birthers have not gone unchallenged, even if the President--quite rightly--ignores them.  One excellent resource that debunks every single nugget of birtherdom can be found at ObamaConspiracy.org. It is not only comprehensive and informative, it is entertaining too.  Check it out. Obviously.

You know, even with a cast of cartoon characters leading the way for the GOP (John Boehner, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin), there's someone out there who is feeling neglected, and she's nuttier than all the rest of them. Orly Taitz! That crazy, lost Gabor sister is at it again, still claiming that President Obama is a Kenyan. And she's elbowing her way into the Quixotic Republican fight to declare health care reform un-Constitutional. Now that ought to lend them some credibility!

I'm not a big fan of John McCain by any means, but I'd rather he stayed in the Senate than crazy right-wing radio host, J.D. Hayworth. So, kudos to Grampy McCain for this brilliant ad, painting Hayworth as a stuck-on-crazy Obama birth certificate conspiracy theorist. With Orly Taitz, no less! But we will never forgive him for foisting Sarah Palin upon the American public.

Since the "birther" movement has been thoroughly discredited by now, I wasn't sure if I'd comment on the queen of the birthers, Orly Taitz being fined for wasting the courts' time. But when I read the headline of the piece below, I just couldn't resist. The birthers couldn't have picked a more perfect spokeswoman for their cause.

Conspiracy Corner: Birther Info-mercial

Want to go on a trip through the looking glass? That's what it feels like to watch this "commercial" for the birther movement (people who think Barack Obama is not a natural born citizen, and therefore not eligible to be President). Let's start with the bizarro hairdo of the preacher/host, Bill Keller. Then, there is a line at the very beginning that is--if you're being charitable--a misstatement of truth, and if you are not, a lie.

He claims that Obama's paternal grandmother has stated that he was born in Kenya. This is untrue. The statement came from his paternal step-grandmother, and was a mistranslation that Mrs. Obama tried to clear up repeatedly immediately after the faux-pas was made. It's clear as day that she wasn't trying to say that Obama was born in Kenya. Okay, next up are some bizarre edits, which may just be the product of the video maker abridging the clip. But then, a lawyer is introduced, the (aptly named) Gary Kreep. He's Orly Taitz without the accent, wig and heels. And he's apparently on the opposite side of a birther schism too.

Anyway, Kreep goes through a litany of debunked claims, including the falsehood that Obama could have been born anywhere, and still obtained a legal Hawaii birth certificate. He also points to an (unnamed) "expert" who has proven that Obama's current certificate is a fake. This one has long been debunked too. This video is very unlikely to persuade anyone who is even slightly informed on this ridiculous conspiracy theory. Bonus points for the hackneyed scary music. By the way, I wonder if Taitz and Keller got their wigs from the same vendor?

Stuck on Crazy: Queen of Birthers, Orly Taitz

To quote Motormouth Maybelle of John Waters' Hairspray, "Oh Papa Tooney. We've got a Looney!" Even Waters couldn't have dreamt up Orly Taitz, queen of the "birthers." Though I wouldn't be surprised if he either based a character on her, or even used her in a future movie. She's absolutely bananas. Shut down at every turn during her quest to prove that President Obama is ineligible to hold office, she just keeps going like a daffy Energizer Bunny in an Eva Gabor wig.

In an interview with TPM just now, Birther evangelist Orly Taitz fired back at Clay Land, the U.S. district court judge who tore apart Birtherism and threatened Taitz with sanctions in an order today, saying that "somebody should consider trying [the judge] for treason and aiding and abetting this massive fraud known as Barack Hussein Obama. . ."

It's amazing how quickly the "birther" um. . .controversy has disappeared from the news. Unless the term is being associated with the current "deather" or town hall tea bagger movements, it's sort of disappeared. That probably has something to do with the fact that they're just different slices of the same ball of crazy, and that the birther wedge has taken a serious hit. After leading birther advocate Orly Taitz (dentist, lawyer, real estate agent, etc.) got punk'd with a fake Kenyan birth certificate, her true colors started shining through.

As the excerpted piece below shows clearly, the wack-a-doodle evidence was there all along. But the scary part is, she's got a following. And she's paring off the saner ones, leaving a very scary bunch.

Stuck on Crazy: America is Chock Full O' Nuts

The far-right conservative base is gleeful right now--though they claim to be outraged. Why so happy? Because after the "birther" movement imploded, due to the fake Kenyan birth certificate and the lunacy of leader Orly Taitz, the spotlight stayed on their wing-nuttery anyway. It just swung from the birthers to the town hall tea baggers. It doesn't matter that it's been proven that the "grass roots" were really astro-turfed. Reality has a well-known liberal bias, after all.

They've got cameras on their movement. They're angry! and they're on the tee-vee! They've got support from Republican politicians for even their most whacked-out theories. Sarah Palin throws gasoline on the fire, giving credence to the ludicrous, non-existant "euthanasia" provisions that crazies believe is in the health care reform bill. The health care issue is the perfect shapeless blob for a shapeless blob of a protest movement.

Since Barack Obama won the Presidency, his most strident opposition has been confused, and babbling nonsense. They're angry, and they're against him, but their message is all over the place. Were the "tea parties" against taxation? Against communism? Against socialism, marxism, muslins? Yes, no, and who knows? So the health "bill" (which is in reality five bills) presents the perfect multi-faceted target for a wildly diffused angry mob. As the loud, nasty townhalls have shown, it doesn't matter what they're railing against, they're just there for a show of force. Personally, I believe they're just pissed that Republicans are out of power. And some of them (maybe a lot of them) are particularly pissed that it was a black guy who won. MUCH of their imagery bears that out.

So, on one hand, these people look crazy, stupid, mean and nasty. That's not good PR for their side. On the other hand, they've got the focus on their side of the issue. But the scary thing is, these frothing mad people seem dangerously close to a tipping point.

This is the most frightening thing I have heard in a very long time: According to a poll conducted by the Daily Kos, which I fervently hope is wrong, 28 percent of Republicans believe that President Obama is not an American citizen. Another 30 percent are undecided. A wider survey to be released tomorrow takes that 58 percent of potential "birthers" nationwide up to nearly 70 in Virginia alone. And this is not in dispute: Ten Republican congressmen have now signed on to a bill demanding that Obama prove his citizenship.
