Kathy Griffin on Larry King Live
Wow. Larry King Live may be ending, but he had some good stuff on this week. And though I just posted clips from his show, how can I ignore Kathy Griffin? Especially when she manages to sneak in a few digs at poor, poor "Dr." Laura. (By the way, Kathy later corrected her statement about Judge Walker being on the wrong side of history).

Statement from Larry King
Before I start the show tonight, I want to share some personal news with you. 25 years ago, I sat across this table from New York Governor Mario Cuomo for the first broadcast of Larry King Live. . .

Carrie Prejean: Solo Sex, Lies and & Multiple Tapes

Image from source (via TMZ), EdgeBoston
The whole Carrie Prejean flap meant very little to me when it happened. A douchey gay blogger asked a political question, and a beauty queen answered in a "the Iraq doesn't have maps, such as"-type answer. For me, it had a lot less to do with her anti-gay marriage views as it did her word salad answer. But it was just a blip for me.
Then, she became a right-wing (naughty) poster child. She started popping up on FOX "News," and at all auspicious fundie events. She was a junior Sarah Palin in the making. But she was still a vacuous twit. Um, not that Palin isn't, mind you. Then came the story about the fake boobs, the soft-core nudie shots, and all of her very unlikely explanations about it (it was the wind!).
She shows up everywhere, speaking nonstop about how she's had her free speech rights taken away? WHEN? She never stops talking! Unless she's on Larry King Live. This week, she abruptly dropped a lawsuit against the pageant, when it was discovered that she had a solo sex video out there. Of course, the logical thing to do is go on FOX "News" and explain herself. On a very specific show of course. She's got a book to sell, and Sean Hannity wrote the foreword to it, so it's off to do Hannity! The host and authoress gave it their all, soft peddling the story as best they could. But something about Carrie's wide-eyed explanation made me instantly doubt her story. Sure enough, there was more to it. Much more.

Prejean’s Boyfriend: Plenty More Tapes & She Asked Me to Lie
Former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean became a darling of the anti-gay right after denouncing marriage equality on national television last April and then becoming a target for gay blogger Perez Hilton, who hurled an anti-woman slur at her on his video blog. The controversy that ensued swept Prejean into the embrace of the religious right, as she went on to make a commercial for the National Organization for Marriage (which opposes family parity for gays) and speaking at a megachurch. . .

Carrie Prejean Meltdown
OK, just let me start by saying, I don't give a flying fig about beauty pageants. There isn't anything further from my radar. But Carrie Prejean, the Miss California contestant who started a firestorm with her "opposite marriage" opinions has become a right-wing star. And as such, she's become something of a political figure, right up there with Caribou Barbie Sarah Palin and (the O-Band is slipping) Mike Huckabee. So, this series of video clips is politically relevant. And hilarious.

Kathy Griffin Interviews Levi Johnston
More blog-bait for me! Kathy Griffin filling in on Larry King Live, interviewing her "date," Levi Johnston. Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol's baby daddy, if you aren't up on Days of Our Lives: Wasilla.

Republicans Don't "Get" Comedy
Stephanie Miller is a radio host, with a comedy show that is a blend of pop culture, news and politics. She's a liberal, even though her dad was the running mate of Barry Goldwater in 1964. And she's frickin' funny. So, when you see Stephanie's head in one of those four-square chattering windows on a cable news show, you know what you're getting: political comedy.
Love her as I do, not every extemporaneous joke is a knee-slapper. So I'm not going to insist that I roared with laughter at the clip below. I can however appreciate it for its intent, which is yuks. But right-wing world has been in a bit of a tizzy, claiming--with straight faces--that Stephanie Miller wants Rush Limbaugh to be executed for treason. Puh-leeze.

Video: Stephanie Miller wants Rush executed, Larry King shrugs
I’ve decided to move this from the headlines, as it bugged me all night long and I was still chewing on it this morning. It reflects a cult of personality gone psychotic among the Left for Barack Obama, where any kind of dissent equates to treason. However, we’ve (almost) come to expect that, but as the Newsbusters point out, Larry King — who gave Bobby Jindal a tough interrogation the other night over something somebody else said — doesn’t even bother to follow up. . .

Random Musings on a Slow News Day

I wanted to post one more piece before turning off the computer for a while, and I thought, "why not do it like Larry King does?" Larry King writes a column (or at least he used to) of random, disconnected thoughts. Hey, I've got plenty of those! So, here we go. . .
Van Wilder is a stupid, but fun movie. If you turn off your brain you'll have a good time. . .Shrek the Halls is one of the best holiday specials to come around in years. And it's spectacular on a good HDTV. . .Mamma Mia! would have been a better movie if Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan could sing. . .Masquerade, an 80s movie that stars Rob Lowe and Meg Tilly, holds up better than most 80s movies. In fact, it's an engaging mystery that you'll enjoy as much as any current movie. And Rob Lowe looks spectacular on a good HDTV too. . .By the way, Meg Tilly is Jennifer Tilly's younger sister. Did you know that?. . .American remakes of Japanese horror films (The Grudge, The Ring, Shutter) are opaque, and nobody understands them as much as they say they do. . .Family Guy and American Dad! will grow on you if you give them time, no matter how much you dislike them the first time around. In fact, they will become favorites. . .No matter how many new high-tech toys you acquire, you'll always want more, and will be disappointed with the ones you have. . .You'll never feel like you deserved that speeding ticket. . .If you have a stretch of days off, you'll plan to get some things accomplished, but as the days wind down, you won't want to actually do them. . .
That's it for now, more when my brain kicks them out!
And just for the hell of it, here is one of the funniest episodes of American Dad!, featuring alien Roger as The Phantom of the Telethon. Enjoy. . .

Bill Maher and Larry King on Barack Obama Election
I rarely watch Larry King Live, especially since The Rachel Maddow Show debuted. But he recently had on Bill Maher to discuss President-Elect Obama. Cool.

Bill Maher on Larry King Live
I am jazzed about the return of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, not to mention Maher's documentary, Religulous. The withdrawal pains have been acute. But to tide us over, Maher appeared on Larry King Live last night.
