Sonia Sotomayor Pallin' Around With Terrorists?

Holy crap. And I don't mean, "Holy crap! Sonia Sotomayor pals around with terrorists!" I mean, "Holy crap! The GOP is nuts!" While that may not be a major revelation, it is amazing that they're still being this brazen. As far as I know, the Puerto Rican Defense and Education Fund is not a terrorist organization. And not one fact is cited to support that slur in this ad. It's the old "politics of fear" that. . .well. . .didn't work in 2008. And neither did the looming spectre of Bill Ayers. But they're still tryin'. All that is missing is the scary O Fortuna musical score.

What new, fresh horror is this? Dick Cheney's spawn, Liz Cheney running for elected office? Why don't they just pair her with Jeb Bush, and cause 50% of America to turn into shrieking howler monkeys?

Another GOP Scary Movie!

Ham-fisted, obvious, absolutely lacking in any subtlety whatsoever. The message: "Be afraid! Be very afraid (vote Republican!)." Oh, and "cliches are good." By the way, isn't "Fortuna, Imperatrix Mundi (O Fortuna)" played out as scary music by now?

John Boehner's Scary Obama Movie

This is how the GOP is going to turn themselves around? By trying to freak us out? John Boner Boehner apparently put together this little video, with the scary music and imagery. But their central question is odd: "After 100 days, do you feel safer?" Actually, I kinda do, with the creepy Bush Administration gone.

And after hearing "George W. Bush kept us safe!" (even though he presided over the worst terrorist attack on our country since Pearl Harbor), couldn't we just as easily retort that President Obama has kept us safe for 100+ days? Nah, no use fighting stupid with stupid.

Stuck on Crazy: Glenn Beck Weeps On Air

FOX "News" has done several documentary-style pieces over the years, both as one-shots and as "special" episodes of regular series. Now that Glenn Beck has moved to FOX from Headline News, he's gotten in on this act.

A FOX "News" documentary usually involves ominous music, slick editing, and imploring voice-overs. Their designed to frighten, sadden or unnerve you; all three if possible. But this piece, by Beck, just comes off like a crazy exercise in egotism. At one point, a weepy Beck even says that he sounds like an evangelist. Yes, he does. But not a very good one. More like a kooky fringe sect or cult leader trying to convert you. And he uses 9/11 imagery, and plays on your memories of that event to do it. Shameless.

I was relieved to see that the maker of this video took the time to annotate it with little word-balloon commentary. It was like they were being willed onto the screen by my brain as I watched! Anyway, if you're wondering who this nutty Beck person is, take a look.

John McCain Defends Barack Obama from Angry Mob

In the last two weeks, John McCain, Sarah Palin, and their campaign have whipped their base into a frenzy. They've been aided and abetted by Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and a host of other right-wing blowholes. Their demonizations of Obama often do not make sense, or are contradictory. But their base doesn't do a lot of thinking for themselves. They let these bloviators stir up their emotions, until they boil over.

So, irony of ironies, John McCain is now forced to defend Obama against the very mob he's drummed up.



UPDATE: I couldn't resist giving you a little taste from right-wing world on this story. This comment, directed at John McCain about Barack Obama is from Free Republic:

"Wrong John, he is against everything American. Against everything good people stand for and believe in. He and his wife are no less than the END of America as we know it if they are allowed to ascend to power. Take a stand and stop this John !!!! You have the power to change minds if you speak the truth and take them to task for their ignorance - and that of the American populace."

These guys are total nutjobs.
