AMC Renews The Walking Dead for a Third Season!

Yeah, I've been entertaining this evening, along with The Other Half, which is why I'm late to blogging. But I'm back! And none too soon, either. Because AMC--after only two episodes this season--has already renewed The Walking Dead for a third season! And I was a little worried. Not because I didn't like the show, no, no, far from it. But because a big part of the two new episodes this season have been largely character-driven, with the scary zombies taking (mostly) second stage. So, YAY!, America is a little more with it than I thought!

After shattering cable ratings records with its second-season premiere, AMC’s zombie drama The Walking Dead has been quickly rewarded with a third-season pickup. “Today we are pleased to announce that the ‘dead’ shall live as we proudly renew The Walking Dead for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels,” AMC president Charlie Collier said. After launching its second season with 7.3 million total viewers and 4.8 million in the adults 18-49 demographic — the most ever for a basic cable premiere. . .

True Blood Season 4: First Six Minutes? WTF?

Wow. Now this is pretty cool. Like a novel by Dean Koontz or Stephen King, that has the first few pages of their next book at the end as a preview. It's really cool, and I'm really excited for the new season. I was a late joiner to True Blood, and still haven't seen season one. But it's a very entertaining, very gory show. If you liked the humor and style of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but like your horror more along the lines of The Walking Dead, then HBO's True Blood is a pretty dead-on mix of the two.

Another GOP Scary Movie!

Ham-fisted, obvious, absolutely lacking in any subtlety whatsoever. The message: "Be afraid! Be very afraid (vote Republican!)." Oh, and "cliches are good." By the way, isn't "Fortuna, Imperatrix Mundi (O Fortuna)" played out as scary music by now?

John Boehner's Scary Obama Movie

This is how the GOP is going to turn themselves around? By trying to freak us out? John Boner Boehner apparently put together this little video, with the scary music and imagery. But their central question is odd: "After 100 days, do you feel safer?" Actually, I kinda do, with the creepy Bush Administration gone.

And after hearing "George W. Bush kept us safe!" (even though he presided over the worst terrorist attack on our country since Pearl Harbor), couldn't we just as easily retort that President Obama has kept us safe for 100+ days? Nah, no use fighting stupid with stupid.

Latest Republican Who Won't Go Away: Rudy Giuliani

Acckkkk! I thought we were done with this guy! After a disastrous, soooo far from the early speculative mark Presidential run, now Rudy Giuliani wants to run for Governor of New York? Really? I live 2,500 miles away from New York, but even I remember that the people of New York City were not very fond of this guy before 9/11. And what did he really do on 9/11 that was so great? He was essentially a focal point, a visible face of authority while George W. Bush was still getting his shit together.

And, ugh what a face. In fact the reason I even noticed this story was the picture that went along with it. Rudy might have made an ugly woman in drag, but yeesh. . .sans makeup, this guy would frighten small children. OK, yeah, I'm no looker myself, but of the gaggle of cartoons that ran on the GOP side this year, Rudy--a combination Sylvester the cat, Mr. Burns, and a stock Scooby-Doo villain--was by far the creepiest.

John McCain: Picture Imperfect

As the campaign for the Presidency goes on, we keep hearing about how contentious and dirty it is. It's not though, not really. There is always mudslinging, and nitpicking, and mountains being made out of molehills--but this is not unusually bad. It's par for the course.

The real nasty comes later, when we get to the general election. That is where the gloves really come off. But I have a suggestion for Barack Obama (or Hillary Clinton, should things change dramatically). Just run photo collages of John McCain. Just look at these pictures! You don't need to say a word!
