Right Wing "Reporter" Interrupts President Obama

What the hell ever happened to decorum? Propriety? Just because politics has become more polarized than ever (a trend started--it should be noted--by Newt Gingrich), doesn't give douchey Tucker Carlson's douchey reporter the right to interrupt the President of the United States. Good grief, a few years ago, the Dixie Chicks (a singing group beloved at the time by right-wingers) was pilloried. . .run out of town on a friggin' rail for making a mildly insulting joke about President Bush. It was during a time of war, we were told. You must respect the office of the President, if not the man himself, we were told. Oh yeah? Then WTF is this. . .

Daily Caller: Michele Bachmann's Crippling Headaches

I didn't set out to do a spread of Michele Bachmann posts, but that's what it's turning into. Did you see this? It's from Tucker Carlson's The Daily Caller, so if it's a "hit piece" from the "lamestream media," it's from the conservative side.
In a rare case of empathy from me (I'm usually just awful), I feel for Mrs. Bachmann here. I get more than occasional headaches, and not rare enough migraines. I've had them for as long as I can remember, and they quite simply suck. All that said, I've never had to be hospitalized for it. This seems like a bad condition to have for a job as stressful as Congresswoman, let alone President of the United States.

There are literally dozens of reasons that Michele Bachmann shouldn't be President. This one, however, is quantifiable. A person could hold an opinion on this one whether left or right. Is this her Waterloo?

MSNBC finally cancelled Tucker Carlson's show, but they've been nicer than I would have been, and have retained him as a commentator. He's still a twit.

MSNBC finally cancelled their lowest rated news/commentary show, Tucker! The question politcs and news junkies are asking, "What took you so long?" And at the risk of losing one of my favorite radio shows, when is Rachel Maddow getting her own show?

Rachel Maddow to Replace Tucker Carlson?

This is all just rumor and conjecture (and I'd file it under Shameless Gossip, except I reserve that for scandals). But, it's intriguing and a little exciting for me, as a big Rachel Maddow fan. I've been an avid listener of Rachel's on all three of her Air America Radio shows. She's articulate, sharp, witty, and most of all affable. Since she claims to not watch "the TV machine," it would be sort of ironic for her to get her own show. Plus, she'd have to buy more than two "TV-ready" ensembles!

As for Tucker, I'd say most anything would be preferable. It would be impossible for MSNBC to do worse, so I say they should take a shot on--if not Rachel Maddow--Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann, even Randi Rhodes (wow, what a show that would be!). Really, what have they got to lose?

Tucker Carlson is Still a Twit

I've said it before, but it bears repeating. He proves it toward the end of this video, after recounting his own "Larry Craig moment" in a public restroom. While I will not attempt to defend the behavior of Tucker's assailant (assuming his story is true), reacting with violence is definitely the wrong way to go. As is thinking it's funny, which apparently Tucker, Joe Scarborough and Dan Abrams seem to. Watch:

I often wonder how this clueless boob made it to popular punditry. Although, "popular" might be an overstatement. His peak in broadcasting came during his tenure on CNN's Crossfire, a show he managed to get cancelled (thanks to Jon Stewart).

Tucker has since had a couple of shows on MSNBC, with some minor changes in name (my favorite, Tucker!*) and time slot. Through it all, he's displayed the immaturity indicated by his famous (since abandoned) affectation of a bow-tie, and little kid mop-top hairstyle. Here is the most recent example:

Tucker Carlson criticized Neil Giuliano, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, on Thursday, saying, "You all are doing a pretty lousy job of explaining why gay marriage is a good idea. Your arguments are all revolving around the question of rights. ... Most people hear the word 'rights' and they turn off. That's a 1960's argument and they're sick of it."

Carlson then began criticizing the pending hate crimes bill, telling Giuliano, "If under this bill, if you're attacked for being gay, the person who attacks you is punished more severely than the person who attacks me. ... Maybe I'm attacked by someone for being straight. Why are you worth more as a citizen than I am?"

Tucker goes on to talk about "all crime" being a hate crime. OK, Tucker (and anybody else with this mode of thought), maybe so. But there are already hate crime statues on the books. Religion, race, gender and other attributes are already covered by hate crime legislation. What is being argued now is adding sexual orientation and identity to the existing statues. It is not the existence of hate crime legislation, but who is included in it that is the argument. Arguing against such a thing is a dick move, in this scenario, though I'd expect nothing less from Tucker Carlson.
