Sharron Angle’s Plan For Education: Eliminate All Of It



Speaking at a forum for the right-wing Steamboat Institute last week, Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle effectively declared that public schools should cease to exist. Early in her speech, Angle reiterated her belief that America should abolish the federal Department of Education because education is “better taken care of at the state level.” Yet, in response to an audience member’s question, Angle also highlighted her work to de-fund Nevada’s public schools. . .

  1. I agree with Angle about getting rid of the Federal DOE. If you look at their web site, all it is about is giving money away. Not much after that.
    Then you have No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top and you have two failed education programs, though NCLB started out good but the DOE made it impossible to have any school or district pass NCLB.
    Instead of playing games at the national level, the feds just need to concentrate on the mandates they pass on to school and the promises they failed to keep, like paying for 2/3 of special education and passing unfunded mandates.
    I don't think Angle wants to defund education altogher, but I will tell you this, there is a tremendous amount of waste in CCSD and it is getting worse instead of better. I am all for education, being a teacher and everything, but when I see a whole lot of waste, it really frosts me.

  2. I'm with you there, Dan, on getting rid of waste. Absolutely. Conservatives seem to be ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater though. I'll concede that liberals can sometimes turn a blind eye to the waste. Sadly, a centrist party is not present, and may never be.
