Gay Phone App Goes Straight?

One of the unfortunate sad interesting things about having been with the same man for 13 years, is that I missed out on all but the earliest forms of technological dating. When I met The Other Half, AOL was chief way to "hook up" with the assistance of technology. The internet was not very widespread yet. And smart phones were science fiction.

So, I have no first-hand knowledge of the very, very successful iPhone (and Android) app, Grindr. Grindr lets gay men know how far away other (interested) gay men are, what they look like, and lots of other pertinent information. Since gay men aren't always obvious (and gaydar doesn't always work), Grindr eliminates the guessing games. I have no idea if I'd have had the nerve to use this back when I was single, but I did have that one slutty week back in '98. . .

Anyway, the creator of Grindr has come up with a version for the straight world, called Blendr. We know that most guys are capable of being sluts. But will the ladies sign up, or will it just be a sausage fest?

Grindr Creator Launches Blendr: Will Women Use A Random Hookup App?

Grindr, the wildly successful, male-only location-based hookup facilitator for gay, bisexual and gay-curious men, has registered 2 million users in two years. Now, the creator of Grindr has launched a new app Blendr that replicates Grindr's template, with one key twist: it allows women to register, too. . .

Truth in Advertising: Suspiciously Young "50+" Dating Ads

We still use AOL at work, where we have all of our different email boxes forward to one account. That way, a handy-dandy "you've got mail!" rings out for any new mail to any mailbox. And since I'm the designated "mail man" at our office, that is a handy feature indeed.  And that is a long way to go to excuse my usage of the "uncool" service.  But I noticed a funny thing today, when checking the mailbox.

AOL started putting ads on each letter and on the mailbox itself long ago. Usually, they are non-obtrusive and not noteworthy. Today's was just funny. On both the email and the mailbox, I noticed two handsome, slightly-older men.  Both are in their mid-forties, but they are advertising for an over fifty dating service. Well, unless they're trying to claim that rather than meeting "over fifty"-aged men, you'll be meeting a quantity of over fifty men. Which sounds like a "senior orgy" and well, ewwww. . .

Gays Meeting Up on Sean Hannity's Web Site?

Image from source, Qweerty

I didn't even have to read beyond the headline of the article excerpted below to know that I had to post it. If it makes Sean Hannity (and his fans) uncomfortable? Hey, it's automatically in.

[Excerpt]

There Are 78 Gay Men on Sean Hannity's Dating Website Looking For Love. Who Are These People?

That Sean Hannity, the Fox News host, even has a dating section of his website Hannity.com is ripe for punchlines. That he calls it Hannidate? Even better. But for a guy so concerned with attacking homosexuals and protecting America from rabid homosexuality, it's a little curious that he's also making a few bucks off connecting two dudes who want to get it on.

Science is Cool: Beer Goggles are Real!

Image from source, Live Science

It's been said that to a straight guy, a girl's score on a 1-10 scale goes up with each beer he drinks. They call the effect "beer goggles," and while it seems obvious, apparently it is now scientifically proven! Now, what about the adage that the difference between a straight guy and a gay guy is a six pack of beer? I'm thinking they're gonna have to trick the straight guys into participating in that study. . .

[Excerpt]

People Really Do Look Better When You Drink

For the first time, scientists have proven that "beer goggles" are real — other people really do look more attractive to us if we have been drinking.
Surprisingly, the beer goggles effect was not limited to just the opposite sex among the ostensibly straight volunteers recruited for the study — they also rated people from their own sex as
more attractive. . .
