Donald Trump vs. FOX "News": Which Side is More Ridiculous?

This is a "good" picture of Donald Trump. I still can't understand his
cult of personality. Image from source, AJC.com
You'd think that when the Republican GOP front-runner for president is in a war with the media arm of the Republican Party, a moonbat liberal like me would be ecstatic. And yeah, some of it amuses the shit out of me. On the other hand, there's something very depressing about a lot of this stuff. I think I might be getting laughed-out as we get closer to the real deal election process.

We have Donald Trump, a man manifestly not qualified for the highest office in the land. He's a juvenile, crass, uncivil, uncouth, undiplomatic, unserious embarrassment. And he's representing essentially half the country, for our most important political office. On those rare occasions when Trump himself won't appear on a news program to explain his latest tantrum, one of his spokespeople will turn up (as Trump does, often on the phone), and is just as abrasive and inappropriate as Trump himself.

I could tick off a list of things that might not fit in a blog post (which are virtually infinite) that would disqualify any other candidate on either side, that Trump's fans ignore. More than that, there is nearly as long of a list that would cause any other conservative candidate to be ejected by conservatives. He's changed parties at least eight times, has held both positions on most hot-button issues, and is squishy on bedrock conservative issues. As I said before, he has a cult of personality, but his personality sucks. Hence, my combination of amusement and dismay. [Story continues below]

So, initially, when I heard that Trump was boycotting the FOX "News" debate on Thursday night, I was as giddy as Nelson Muntz at an Andy Williams concert. But the more I read about it, the stupider it seemed, and I realized this will just tickle Trump's fans all the more. And I got a little bummed out again. And when FOX getting a thumb in its eye can't amuse me, there's really something askew.

How utterly bizarre, this war between crybaby Trump and Roger Ailes, a man more responsible for the existence of candidate Trump than anybody, and over Megyn Kelly, a conservative water-carrier. Kelly shows flashes of actual journalism, it can be argued. But her rightward leanings have been eminently obvious since long before she got her evening show opposite Rachel Maddow. She's only as biased against Trump as a conservative-leaning moderator could be, which is, not very much. Until, of course, Trump started this war.

Naturally, his manufactured battle has made further debates with her much more sticky. But honestly, why does the candidate get to pick his moderators, the questions, what will be discussed and when? And in such a public, childish way? And to see FOX itself behaving in just the same manner? It's funny, but it's also sad.

Donald Trump is skipping the Fox News debate

For the first time in this very long election cycle, we may have a Donald Trump-less Republican presidential debate. The presidential candidate has been threatening to skip Thursday's Fox News Debate for at least a day now. "Nothing's 100 percent," Trump said in an interview with CNN on Monday. "I'm not 100 percent. I'll see. If I think I'm going to be treated unfairly, I'd do something else. . ."

In Case You Missed It: Megyn Kelly Calls Cheney on His Iraq Blunders

This was an extraordinary thing to happen on FOX "News," a primetime anchor of their opinion programming (separate and apart from their "hard news" stuff, naturally), throwing down with former Vice-President Darth Dick Cheney. She basically asks him why we should take his advice on Iraq now, when he was wrong about a whole host of things with the original invasion and war. She kindly doesn't level charges of lying us into war, but we can only hope for so much. Almost as remarkably, Cheney doesn't deny what she says, he doesn't back-pedal, apologize, or attempt to reframe it. He simply disagrees with her. Disagrees with facts, mind you. Hey, only a demon can live in multiple realities at the same time, right? Maybe we should ask his demon-spawn, since all of this publicity is to give the poor thing something to do.

[Excerpt]

Megyn Kelly to Cheney: "History has Proven" You Were Wrong in Iraq

". . .In your op-ed, you write as follows: "Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many." But time and time again, history has proven that you got it wrong as well in Iraq, sir. You said there was no doubt Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. You said we would be greeted as liberators. You said the Iraq insurgency was in the last throes back in 2005. And you said that after our intervention, extremists would have to "rethink their strategy" of jihad. Now, with almost a trillion dollars spent there, with 4,500 American lives lost there, what do you say to those who say you were so wrong about so much at the expense of so many?. . ."

White Jesus (Rocky Mountain Mike Song Parody)

You've got to hand it to Rocky Mountain Mike, one day Megyn Kelly of FOX "News" says something stupid, and the next, there is a pitch-perfect Bing Crosby Christmas song parody available. Thanks, Mike! "I'm dreaming of a white Jesus. . ."

FOX "News" Host Megyn Kelly: Santa and Jesus are White! (And Real!)

Image from NYDaily News
Megyn Kelly, newly minted hostess of the oddly named FOX "News" program, The Kelly File has some odd ideas about history. Kelly--who just this week told Jay Leno that she's a straight-up news gal, not an opinion host--has proclaimed both Jesus and Santa Claus to be actual, historical people. White, historical people.

As an atheist, I'm aware that Christians are convinced that Jesus was an actual, real person who is also the Son of God, and also God himself and some combination, plus his own dad. I won't pick that apart here other than to say "huh?" I can concede that there may have been a living person of his description walking the planet a little over 2,000 years ago. Whether he was just as described in the Bible remains completely a matter of faith, not fact. And his race and appearance are wholly (not holy) a matter of speculation.

The Bible only says Jesus had hair like wool. For such an important figure, it's odd that the book doesn't describe his appearance at length, but it doesn't. So, what everyone imagines as Jesus is what he looks like in famous portraits and statuary, which were plucked out of the artists' imaginations, inspired or not. Still, it's rather unlikely that a Middle Eastern Jewish guy looks like a white 6' European dude with strawberry blonde flowing locks. Mostly, what it makes me wonder is if people are really seeing images of John Lennon rather than Jesus in their morning toast and other random foodstuffs.

Megyn Kelly is a bit less curious about such matters. In fact, she's certain that Jesus existed and was in fact white. Not only that, Santa Claus apparently is also real, and white as well! Which makes me think Kelly is something of a fluff-headed lightweight, which really isn't too surprising.

Megyn Kelly Really Wants The Kids To Know Santa And Jesus Are White

This is how Megyn Kelly handled a story by a black woman who wrote that maybe, just maybe, Santa doesn't have to be white all the time (because—spoiler alert—Santa can be all things to all people!) . . .

Could Sean Hannity Be Replaced on FOX "News?"

Image from source,
NewsCorpse
Oh, I know they'd just shift him somewhere else, most likely. He's still their second-most watched show, though I really can't believe it is out of anything other than viewer habit. But Sean Hannity has had a berth at 9 pm (6 pm Pacific) on the FOX "News" Channel since its debut. Unless Bill-O the Clown is departing, and Sideshow Sean is getting his plum spot, there would be no way to look at such a move as anything but a demotion.

Jon Stewart: FOX "News" Chaos on Bullshit Mountain!

The FOX "News" reaction to the secret Mitt Romney "47%" tapes was a bit choppy and self-contradictory. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart nails it again. Hilarious and spot on.

Pepper Spray is Delicious... At Faux Nooz

One of the regular dipshit bimbos at Faux Nooz recently declared that military grade pepper spray is nothing more than a food product. Of course, if she were to be doused three times with military grade pepper spray she would probably feel different about adding it to her burrito. Assuming the concentrated chemical could penetrate the multiple layers of 'hot "news" hostess' make-up, that is.

Which, by those standards, makes water-boarding just a way to wash down the peppery goodness, I'd guess.

Anyhow, it got me to thinking about a great episode of The Simpsons that touches on this same subject. With humor... not with a total lack of intelligence, as demonstrated by the Faux Nooz Zombimbo.

Enjoy.

I Learned Something from FOX "News"? Well, Sorta. . .

You know how every so often, I put FOX "News" on the teevee machine, just to see if they ever actually air "fair and balanced" news?  Well, I tried again today, and stumbled into some. Kinda.

I'm a graphic artist for a sign company, so it's my business to know about certain requirements and laws. So finding out on America Live (an odd name for a news show, by the way) that there is a federal mandate to change all street signs, was a bit surprising to me.  Now, of course host Megyn Kelly and her "reporter" approached the story as one more wacky thing the Democrats in Washington are foolishly spending money on. Nearly every story is broached that way on FOX "News."  And when you actually get beyond the headline, there is often some bumbling--and inexcusable--double-talk. When Kelly asked if this was Congress or the President mandating the change, the reporter had no idea.  NO IDEA.  I found out with a 30-second Google search.  Lame.

So what is the big street sign change?  They're all being changed to upper/lower case, from all caps.  This may sound silly, but it is true that upper/lower is easier and faster to read. Particularly when you get into very long words that have to be squashed to fit on a standard street sign.  Kelly and her reporter made (really, really lame) jokes about "Ooh yeah, those signs are so hard to read. They're all capitals! What does it say?"  But when you're talking about signs that must be read in seconds or even less, legibility is important.

Incidentally, Megyn Kelly just called John Roberts, "Chief Justice McDreamy." Unbelievable.  Anyway, here's a story on the change that contains more actual news (beyond the headline) than Kelly's entire program.

[Excerpt]

Sign names need to use uppercase, lowercase

Despite public confusion that arose from recent news reports on the issue, city crews will continue to replace street name signs to comply with Federal Highway Administration regulations that specify changes be in place by 2012.

The regulations, specified in the 2009 edition of the FHA's "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways," call for new street name signs to have 6-inch lettering by Jan. 9, 2012. . .

Bill O'Reilly, Megyn Kelly on Atheists vs. Christians

By now, I'm sure you've read about the case of the atheist sign put up alongside the Nativity scene. Its wording may have been a touch over the top, but every bit as valid a viewpoint as anybody else's. FOX "News" star, Bill O'Reilly is having none of it though.

The big splotchy bully brought in Megyn Kelly to argue the legal merits of the case. . .and then the fireworks started. Usually, O'Reilly steers his guests into agreement, or he talks over them and then effectively declares himself the winner. In this case, he gets his loofahed butt handed to him. For all I know, Kelly is just a douchey as O'Reilly in other contexts; I honestly have no idea. But here, she comes of very, very well. Bill? Not so much.
