FOX "News" Un-American?

Do you really think I could pass on a story with the following headline?

[Excerpt]

The O’Garbage Factor: Fox News isn't just bad. It's un-American.

Last week, when White House Communications Director Anita Dunn charged the Fox News Channel with right-wing bias, Fox responded the way it always does. It denied the accusation with a straight face while proceeding to confirm it with its coverage.

Consider Fox's Web story on the episode. It quotes five people. Two of them work for Fox. All of them assert that administration officials are either wrong in substance or politically foolish to criticize the network. No one is cited supporting Dunn's criticisms or saying that it could make sense for Obama to challenge the network's power. It's a textbook example of a biased journalism. . .

Don't Mess With Texas: If At First You Don't Secede

To my friends in Texas: If these nutjobs are successful, and The Republic of Texas becomes an instant third-world nation, you're free to bunk with us in Las Vegas. And to the members of this movement: There's no better way to show your patriotism than to claim you hate America! Or something. . .

Texas: Secede or Become Five Separate States?

Image from FlawdLogic

I couldn't come up with five separate Texas state names (or at least I couldn't top all of the names submitted in the comments), but I think if Dallas/Fort Worth gets to be its own state, it's got to be called "Dee-Eff-Dubya."

[Excerpt]

It's time to pick a new name for Texas

As you know, Texas is now talking about seceding from the Union. Tom Delay, the former House Majority Leader who lost his job after being exposed as a criminal, is suggesting that Texas split into five separate states (which he says Texas is permitted to do), and then Democrats in Washington would be so incensed by the notion of ten new Texas Senators coming to DC that they'd kick Texas out of the Union. . .

If Texas Secedes, Obama Gets Filibuster-proof Majority

Image from source, FiveThirtyEight

Maybe Texas Governor Rick Perry doesn't care if the US Senate gets a Democratic-controlled filibuster-proof majority. After all, he'd be the President of the Republic of Texas. But I'm betting the Republicans in other states might not be too thrilled with the idea.

[Excerpt]

Hey Rick, Can We Talk?

-- If Texas were not in the Union, the Democrats would currently have a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate -- or at least they would once Al Franken gets seated. This is because, in a 98-seat Senate, only 59 votes would be required to break a filibuster.
-- If Texas were not in the Union, the Republicans would operate from a significantly weakened position in the House, since the net 8-vote advantage their congressional delegation gives them in the state (they have 20 seats to the Democrats' 12) is by far their largest. . .

What Parts of America are Un-American?

Photo from source, Huffington Post

Republicans, most recently Sarah Palin, like to sling insults at Democrats, characterizing their difference in political views as "un-American." They'll even go so far as to label entire sections of the country that way. Think about it. Slams against Massachusetts as "Taxachusetts." Barely veiled comments about "San Francisco Values." States on both coasts are constantly derided for not being "heartland" enough. Euphamisms like "Joe Sixpack" and hybrid real/media creations like "Joe the Plumber" are hailed as real Americans. Even Palin herself is heralded as a small town, hockey mom. . .so much more American than a latte-sipping limosine liberal.

But how more un-American could you be than to call groups of citizens, and entire regions of America un-American? There is an incredible divide in this country between right and left, but the difference is, liberals want conservatives out of power; conservatives want liberals out of the country. How pro-American can you be if you think that 50% of the country are somehow traitors? Congratulations, Mr. Rove. You may not have secured a "permanent Republican majority," but you have managed to put us at each others' throats.

[Excerpt]

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden mocked rival Sarah Palin's comment in North Carolina that she loves visiting "pro-America" parts of the country, arguing that the entire nation is patriotic.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have never been to a state that hasn't sent its sons and daughters to serve its country," Biden said Friday in New Mexico as the crowd booed Palin's reported comments. "It doesn't matter where you live, we all love this country. . .
