Chilling! (#FreeMelania)

I'm slowly moving from anti-Trump to pro-Melania. She's easy to make fun of, what with her plagiarism, her Zsa Zsa (or Eva) Gabor accent, the icy stare through too-tightly-pulled eyes. . .but I'm being won over. I'm starting to feel sorry for her plight (sort of feeling worried about Barron too).

Phyllis Schlafly Has Died. Finally.

They say evil never dies. And so, I'm forced to raise my previous opinion of the late Phyllis Schlafly. Slightly.

[Excerpt]

Phyllis Schlafly, towering social conservative figure, dies at 92

Phyllis Schlafly, a prominent anti-feminist and early leader of the social conservative movement, died Monday at the age of 92 at her home in St. Louis. . .

The Gay Thing: American Gay Haters Go Global

The National Organization for Marriage was once a titan of a hate group, causing all kinds of strife for marriage equality supporters. They formed out of the ooze to push Prop 8 in California, and they won. They had other victories, and--despite having very bad arguments--seemed like they were going to steam-roller gay marriage. Of course they got a big push from the like-minded who came before them, with the seemingly contagious anti-gay state constitutional amendments that swept the nation in the early part of the century.

Then a funny thing happened. The tide turned, SCOTUS gave us a couple of big wins, and suddenly, NOM couldn't catch a break. Their wins were mostly inconsequential in the scheme of things, and their losses piled up high like cordwood. Through it all, NOM bigwig Brian Brown would declare that he was not anti-gay, merely trying to "protect marriage." He never fought to end divorce, or stop

adultery, only to block or reverse wins for same-sex marriage. All the while, Brown (and presumably his compatriots) has collected a hefty paycheck, pockets lined by the dwindling supporters and a couple of very wealthy, secretive donors.

Barring something extremely unexpected, it is very likely that the Supreme Court will take up one or several of the cases that have worked their way through the court system, almost unanimously in favor of marriage equality. Given the legal contortions that would be required to reverse all of these decisions--and earlier  cases as prior indication--most people seem to think that nationwide marriage equality could be a realty by next summer. So, how will Brian Brown continue to turn his singular "talent" into cash? Go global, baby.

Brown, and other anti-gay religious zealots, has decided to turn to other countries, places where anti-gay legislation is an easier sell. Only rather than merely "protecting marriage" (an Orwellian phrase if ever there was one), he could be associated with legislation that actually imprisons or kills people. And we're supposed to think this is some noble, loving, "Christian" cause?

America's gay rights battle goes global

Starting in 2012, the leader of the most prominent American anti-gay marriage organization unexpectedly began adding a ton of stamps to his passport. As federal judges struck down gay marriage bans left and right at home, National Organization for Marriage President Brian Brown appeared at meetings and marches for various anti-gay rights causes in France, Trinidad and Tobago, Russia and Australia — a surprising uptick in travel for the stateside activist. The result: In June, Brown’s group began discussing rebranding itself as the International Organization for Marriage, according to materials from a “March for Marriage” meeting in Washington, D.C. . .

Dick Cheney and the Devil

Who is it besides Dick Cheney, and his demon spawn daughter (who makes a cameo toward the end of this video) that is seen by people as evil? Could it beeeeeee. . .SATAN!?!?

Hilarious.

Military Ignored Cheney's Shoot Down Order on 9/11

An evil dick. Image from source, Raw Story
So, we all thought that Dick Cheney was really the President on September 11, 2001. Dick Cheney certainly seems to have thought he was the President on that and many other days. But the military seems to have figured out that whatever evil powers Cheney might have had, he was not the president. At least not on that particular day.

Military officials ignored Cheney’s 9/11 shoot-down order

Newly published audio this week reveals that Vice President Dick Cheney's infamous Sept. 11, 2001 order to shoot down rogue civilian aircraft was ignored by military officials, who instead ordered pilots to only identify suspect aircraft. . .

Ann Coulter Made Honorary Chair of GOProud

Imagine what her lady-parts
look like. . .
I have said here before that as a gay person myself, I am at an utter loss to explain gay conservatives. And since GOProud (and local Nevada chapter Right Pride) split off from the Log Cabin Republicans, my understanding of them has disintegrated further (though what's left of Log Cabin now seems to make more sense). I also have a deep loathing for the Ann Coulter persona.*

But none of that is important right now. I am posting this piece chiefly because of the nauseatingly brilliant accompanying artwork. I know that my friend and fill-in writer, Stupid Monkey Planet, will really dig it. Thanks for running the blog, Monkey!

We Agree With GOProud: Ann Coulter Is A Gay Icon!

GOProud has just asked horrible person Ann Coulter to serve as Honorary Chair of GOProud’s Advisory Council and has titled her position “Gay Icon”. There’s no better person to chair GOProud! After all, Coulter isa gay icon…

*I say that I loathe the Ann Coulter persona, because I don't believe for a minute that the creature we know as Ann Coulter is a real person. She may well be a decent person in "real life." Or she could be something entirely other than human, which is--I believe--Stupid Monkey Planet's theory.

Tennessee Governor Strips LGBT Protections, Statewide

What are you going to do with that fist, Governor?
Image from source, Joe.My.God.
I'd really like for a conservative/Republican/tea partier to explain this to me. Let's assume a county or city passes some discrimination protections for gay people (or any other group). Why on earth should (or would) a governor sign a law to strip those protections away? What is gained here? Beyond basic meanness, what public good is served by wiping away laws made by elected officials? We're not talking un-Constitutional laws, we're talking about laws that are disliked by the fringe edge of a political party.

I'm aware that this sort of political regression is likely to die out over the next 10-30 years. The Governor of Tennessee is pandering to an aging group of homophobes that will eventually croak. And by the time I'm in my dotage, gay people won't have to put up with being political footballs anymore. But I tell you, I'm getting pretty fucking sick of this shit. And no, I don't feel the need to sugar coat it.

TENNESSEE: Governor Signs Bill Banning All Local LGBT Rights Laws

GOP Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today signed the bill overturning Nashville's non-discrimination ordinance. The bill also effectively outlaws all local LGBT rights laws statewide as it bans any discrimination protections not already offered by the state. . .

Ann Coulter Speech Cancelled Due to Protest

Image from Think Progress

What a shame.

[Excerpt]

OTTAWA: Thousands Of Students Protest, Ann Coulter's Speech Canceled

A spokesman for the group that organized the event said there were fears for Coulter’s well-being after about two thousand people gathered outside the venue to protest her presence there. Coulter is a darling of the U.S. right-wing who uses incendiary language to sell millions of books as well as her syndicated column. She sparked more controversy during a speech at University of Western Ontario Monday night when she told a 17-year-old Muslim student to “take a camel” instead of a the flying carpet she has previously suggested Muslims use for transportation. . .

Olberman's Quick Comment on Dick Cheney

Countdown with Keith Olbermann started a new feature on Monday's show called, Quick Comment, a sort of pared-down version of the usually lengthy Special Comments. It'll be interesting to see if the segment lasts, or if Olbermann burns out on it. Still, it's always fun to see him get fired up, especially when the subject is Darth Cheney.

Colin Powell's ex-Chief of Staff: Cheney is Evil!

Photo from source, Think Progress

Finding somebody like me--a moonbat lefty liberal blogger--who would be quoted saying that Dick Cheney is evil is pretty easy. In fact, "evil" would only be one of a lengthy list of negative adjectives I might use. But a former member of the actual Bush/Cheney Administration? Not even Scott McClellan went that far!

So, though you already knew that Dick was evil, it certainly bears repeating.

[Excerpt]

Colin Powell’s former chief of staff: Cheney is ‘evil,’ his fearmongering is ‘assisting’ al Qaeda.

Weeks after President Obama was inaugurated, Dick Cheney gave an interview to Politico slamming Obama’s detainee policies and warning that he was making America less safe (charges he repeated again last Sunday). Lawrence Wilkerson, Colin Powell’s former chief of staff who left the Bush administration in protest, wrote an essay on the Washington Note last evening slamming Cheney’s fearmongering. Wilkerson calls Cheney “evil” and says his detainee policies were only “assisting” terrorists. . .
