Lawrence O'Donnell Rewrites Kerry & Romney, Windsurfing & Dressage

A while back there was a picture circulating of Mitt Romney riding on the back (*cough* bitch seat *cough*) of his wife's wave-runner, and I wondered. . .how is that different from John Kerry's windsurfing shot? To be honest, I never understood why Kerry windsurfing was bad or negative in any way. But Right-wing World took that photo and ran with it right into the history books. So maybe I just don't get it. Maybe there wasn't a comparison to be made between jet skiing and wind surfing.

But what about dressage? Now, that sounds hoity toity. Lawrence O'Donnell thinks so too, and this very educational and entertaining clip is worth your time.

Lawrence O'Donnell Rewrites Christian Boycott of Google

This is just entertaining as hell. The AFA (American Family Ass.) is a group of busybodies who wants all of America to follow their strict idea of religion. Their many spinoffs, compatriots and copycat groups almost uniformly--and curiously single-mindedly--exist to make life hard for gay people. Sure, some of them are obsessed with abortion too, but it's mostly the gays. . .they just hate the gays!

Anyway, the AFA and the Million Moms (who apparently can't count) and others have pledged to boycott any company that supports The Gay and/or The Gay Marriage. Unfortunately for them--if they wish to remain consistent at least--they're going to have to travel with detailed binders, because lots of corporations support gay rights. Kraft and General Mills make half the items in the grocery store, and both support The Gay. They can't use an iPhone or an iPod or a MacBook to keep track of what not to buy, because Apple is so gay their logo used to be rainbow-colored. No Microsoft computers, phones or tablets, Bill Gates is too gay friendly. They can't use an Android phone or tablet because Google is very gay friendly too. So, get out them binders!

It's Google that caught the eye of the host of The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell, who levels a devastating "Rewrite" segment at the AFA and their like-minded friends. It has to do with the Christian right's ironic obsession with porn. Enjoy!

Three posts in a row about Donald Trump is at least two too many, but I couldn't resist adding this one. Nobody, but nobody does a better deconstruction of the "bloviating ignoramus" (™ George Will) than Lawrence O'Donnell. I don't know if there is something between Trump and O'Donnell from the past, or if O'Donnell just likes to deflate monstrous egos. But it doesn't matter, whatever it is about, it produces great television.

Rewriting the History of Marriage

I know the blog is a little top-heavy with the gay of late, but this post couldn't be ignored. For so long--as long as the marriage equality fight has been fought--we've heard that marriage has existed, unchanged, for thousands upon thousands of years. I don't particularly understand why they find this to be a persuasive argument, really. "We've always done it that way" isn't a good enough reason to squash the civil rights of an entire group of taxpaying citizens. And the "thousands" varies from two to five to six, depending upon the arguer.

Lawrence O'Donnell has cracked the code. And he lists the ways that marriage has indeed changed over many more thousands of years. And he uses the Bible as a source!

I dislike Newton Leroy Gingrich almost as much as I do Karl Rove, or anybody named Cheney. But I like Elizabeth Warren exactly as much as I dislike them. I'd vote for her for whatever she runs for. People talk about President Obama adding Hillary Clinton to his ticket, which is a cool idea. But I'd be more excited if he recruited Warren. Okay, done gushing now.

Too much hyperbole in the headline? Too graphic? Well, pick your verb, Lawrence O'Donnell trounced Donald Trump and all he stands for, and smacked around today's GOP in general. It was a thing of beauty. I don't often catch The Last Word since it changed time slots. But with Trump in the news, I knew it would be worth it.

MSNBC Shuffles Lineup

Big Ed Schultz. Yeah, I'm not a fan.

I can't remember exactly when I started watching MSNBC. It was some time in George W. Bush's second term, maybe a little earlier, and Countdown with Keith Olbermann was just about the only show on television challenging the official word from the White House. The Karl Rove Alternate Reality Machine was in full swing, and the frustration from people like me was indescribable. Olbermann spoke to us, when nobody else--outside of comedy shows like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Real Time with Bill Maher and Saturday Night Live--would do it. So, I became a regular watcher.

By the time Countdown spawned The Rachel Maddow Show, I was really hooked, since was already a long-time fan of hers. But the problem was, this put a two-hour daily hole in my life, something that occasionally irks The Other Half. We thought we had the answer when Olbermann left MSNBC. But I quickly got hooked on The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell. I like O'Donnell quite a bit. But he's only appointment viewing by firtue of his time slot.

My regular routine was to set the DVR for both shows, exercise after I got home from work, and then catch up with both, sans commercials. On most days, I still finished at about 7pm. But we're getting toward the early evenings now, and I'll have to switch to the gym, rather than walking outside. I'll be home later. I was already wondering if I needed to adjust my viewing habits. And then I found out that MSNBC made the decision for me. They're switching The Last Word and The Ed Show in the lineup. I'm not a fan of Ed's. And Lawrence is now on at 8:00pm, prime time. So, except for the odd exception, I'll be down to 1 hour of cable news again. That's probably a good thing, for me (and The Other Half). I'm not sure what MSNBC is thinking, though.

MSNBC shakes up primetime

 MSNBC has reshuffled its primetime lineup, with only Rachel Maddow staying in place at 9 p.m. Ed Schultz's "The Ed Show," which was moved to 10 o'clock from 6 p.m. earlier this year, will now start at 8, with Lawrence O'Donnell's "The Last Word" back in its original spot at 10. . .

Lawrence O'Donnell on Capital Punishment

This post is particularly for my conservative friend from the Las Vegas Badger, who pointed out that people were only protesting one execution on Wednesday, and not the other one going on in Texas. My reply was that the guy in Texas was a) guilty of one of the most heinous crimes in recent history, and b) his guilt was not in dispute. In Georgia, the man who was executed had quite a lot of supporters questioning his guilt, and there was very little evidence that put the gun in his hand. But Lawrence O'Donnell had a different take. It isn't 100% my opinion (as I'm a quasi-capital punishment supporter. . .I guess), but it is an excellent counterpoint to the Badger's point.

Lawrence O'Donnell: Rick Perry Woulda Killed Jesus

Okay, the headline is a little bold. . .that's not exactly what Lawrence O'Donnell said, though it was his point. It comes late in this clip, which is good all the way through. Lawrence  also corrects the record on the Republicans' near-religious belief that Barack Obama's stimulus produced "zero jobs."

Lawrence O'Donnell Shreds Rudy Giuliani

Rarely do you see the brutal honesty displayed by Lawrence O'Donnell from Tuesday's Last Word. With the 10th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001 coming up, there are a lot of memories being stirred up. There are also a lot of whitewashed stories being told, most recently by George W. Bush and his Vice President, Dick Cheney.  Oddly--though most of us can remember many details of our lives that day--Bush's and Cheney's stories don't quite match.

But those guys aren't the only ones known for the parts they played that day. Rudolph Giuliani, then the Mayor of New York City, made his name on 9/11. He parlayed it into a failed run for the Presidency in 2008, and a rumored possible attempt for 2012. And all along the way, he never lets us forget that he was the "Mayor of 9/11." But what did he really do to make that a good thing anyway? Listen to Lawrence, and find out.
