Progress Report: Computer Transition Under Way

The goal: a) Get new computer up to snuff as a blogging and graphics machine, b) Convert my old computer to The Other Half's computer, c) make sure we both have everything we want from the old machines without needlessly cluttering our new ones.

I'm at least halfway done, with each computer in its proper place (the Other Half's old one is presently set up on the coffee table until it is put to pasture). Files are partly backed up, but not moved off of the external device. And I discovered the pleasure of multi-screens!!!

One of these days. . .
But I've gotten too excited too quickly. I started with an older, non-widescreen flat panel from the closet, next to my huge 27" monitor. And it works pretty great! But that old monitor is not particularly clear, and not particularly attractive. The extended display space is really, really nifty. So, I thought, why not get the older 22" from the Other Half's old computer? Great idea. It's big, it should be just the ticket.

Unlucky me, there is no Windows 8 driver for it. And every website that purports to have one looks extra dodgy. So, I'll either rough it with the old 19" or just stick to one panel at a time until I feel I can justify the price of a second, modern monitor. But now that I have a taste? I've got to tell you, I want it!

UPDATE: It occurs to me, that since I'm blogging this to the whole world, it couldn't hurt to put the name and model of my old monitor out there, just in case there's a techie out there who has happened by. It's an Envision G22LWk. Drop me a line if anyone has an idea how to make it work. I mean, I've gotten several other, supposedly incompatible things to work!

Monday Morning Update

Good morning everybody, and welcome to what's sure to be an exciting new week! As my weekend was sort of slow here on the site, I decided to get up a little early and drop a line. I've also made a slight change to the way my posts appear here.

Instead of Pacific Time, which is the time zone I live in, I've changed the post dates to Eastern Time. This is not to be deceptive, only to label the "days" here on the site to begin when the majority of the country is actually reading them. My posts generally start at what would be 9:00 pm or later in Eastern Time. That means most Eastern Time readers won't even see the post until the next day. With my time zone change, anything I post after 9:00 Pacific Time will appear as "the next day," and not look like old news the following morning. It will also put the date stamps more in line with most other blogs.

I know, not much of a change, I just wanted full disclosure. Anyway, I'll try it for a few days, and change it back if I decide it isn't working the way I thought.

As for news this morning, a quick perusal of news stories turns up mostly bad news, so I'll take my leave now, go to work, and hope to find something better when I get home. Have a good week!

Computer Woes: Umpteenth Update

Curiously, Greenlee Gazette seems to be functioning perfectly now. All day, I was unable to see anything on my sidebar, and posts from two days ago were invisible. The only thing I could get to appear (in Internet Explorer 7) was the grouping of posts from the last 2 days. Somehow, the problem has been resolved. I have no idea if I fixed it, or if it fixed itself. In any event, everything now seems fine.

Please contact me (greenleegazette@aol.com) if anything seems to stop working. I don't want to be posting away, and find that nobody can read it!

Oh, and comment too. You know who you are, passive readers who either agree with me, or not--you grumble or applaud to yourselves, but you remain silent. A challenge: SAY SOMETHING! Comment, please! Let's make this a vibrant, challenging intellectual space! Please?

UPDATE: AOL still is failing me with the sidebar, and with other postings. I don't know why. If anybody does, please let me know how to fix it. Thanks.
