Keith Olbermann Returning to Television

Image from MSN
Well, I had to temper my squeee! when I found out that Keith Olbermann's long-awaited return to television is in a sports capacity. I have only slightly more affinity for sports than I have for religion. Which is to say, not much at all. But good for Keith, glad he got a gig. He probably doesn't need the bucks, but I'm sure he misses the limelight.

[Excerpt]

Blast from the Past: Cyndi Lauper

Since Cyndi Lauper has a new reality show debuting this week, it seems like the perfect time to remind people who she is. I say this with a measure of  sadness: though Cyndi Lauper is an outrageously talented woman, and people still know who she is, her pop culture identity is tragically stalled in the 80s. I don't know why this is. I don't know if she has a bad agent. Maybe she ticked someone in the industry off? She should by all rights have had two or three "comebacks" by now, and be sharing the "diva" status of Cher or Tina Turner. Cyndi is one of my favorite artists, and I'm glad to see that Cyndi Lauper: Still So Unusual debuts on Saturday, January 12 at 9 pm on WE (whatever that is, check your local listings.

So, to refresh your memory, here are some of her biggest hits, and best songs.

Of course, Cyndi has more hits than that, and also some more recent music. I included a couple of non-hits that are nonetheless some of my favorites. But I'd really love it if she could use this show as a springboard to a comeback!

Meanwhile, have a great first full work week of the year. Happy Monday!

UPDATED: Britney Spears' Train Wreck

Yeah, I know. What's she doing here? I rarely have any use for the "celebutard" (The Stephanie Miller Show) stories, no matter how sordid. But when it's funny. Well, that's another story. In any event, I'm quite sure Viacom will pull this YouTube video before long anyway. So catch it while you can.

UPDATE: I replaced the video with another source that is more likely to stay put.

UPDATE II: Nope, that one's gone too. Boy, Viacom is serious, ain't they? I can't even embed the video they GAVE me the code to? Weird. If you didn't manage to catch it before it was pulled, try the official site: MTV.com

UPDATE III: An excellent dissection of the problems bloggers had posting this clip is featured here: Machinist.Salon.com. And Viacom actually has a direct link to the video, if you still haven't seen it, here: http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?id=1568788&vid=173440.
