But, I think a good litmus test for if a person ought to be bounced from office? That they look to Glenn Beck or Alex Jones as a "news" source. That ought to be enough to get you a stay in a padded room.

Conspiracy Corner: Breitbart Was Totally Killed by White House!

I didn't mean for this to become the "all Breitbart, all the time" blog, and predicted I'd never talk about him in my most recent post. But I added the caveat that I'd drop the subject unless there was a surprise. I think this qualifies, thought it should probably fall into the "shouldn't surprise you, but still does" category. I bring to you the possible replacement conspiracy theory to the birthers and the after-birthers (ew): the Breitbarters! They're so crazy, that after a harmless (but initially suspicious) package was delivered to Rush Limbaugh, they'd incorporated that into the theory. This shit moves fast these days, kids.

Recently, I wrote a piece about the paranoia of conservative anti-gay people who believe that gays set out--as an ultimate goal--the complete destruction of marriage and the family.  They don't just wanna get married, the gays want to destroy society.  It's so ridiculous, and yet it is pervasive in certain circles. Something very similar is going on with the anti-Islamic faction of the Republican Party (as though those are different people). They think that President Obama may not only be a Muslim, but that he wants world-wide Islamic Law.  Paranoia barely covers it.

But it was the comments section I found the most entertaining, with Beck defenders and--surprisingly for Texas--Beck deriders as well. An astonishing performance.

History for those who won't bother to read, art appreciation for those who won't bother to look.

I don't know anything about Beck's ACORN reportage, because I don't watch him. And this performance doesn't give me any reason to start. But if his history of "Rockefeller" -- he doesn't say whether he means the old man or Junior, or even that he knows the difference -- the Progressive movement, Fascism, Leninism, and recent art and architecture are any indication, I wouldn't trust him to honestly report on the contents of his shirt pocket.

This sounds like an essay test written at the last minute by a dim but superficially glib student who's been sleeping all semester.

Sarah Palin on Media Treatment of. . .Hillary Clinton

I found the following in the comments section of NewsHounds ("We watch FOX so you don't have to"). Sarah Palin's recent resignation as Governor of Alaska has given way to heavy right-wing spin, basically saying that the librul media done run her out of town. She--the spin goes--has been unfairly attacked relentlessly, by an unscrupulous, wicked press. She's blameless in the equation, of course.

And if you followed the David Letterman dust up, you know that Palin complains when "attacked." A lot. So how interesting it is to read what she had to say when the media was "attacking" Hillary Clinton in the primaries. Take a look.

But, yet, as a woman, chief executive—someone who's been through the grinder—when you look at the coverage and you listen to the conversations, what do you see?

SARAH PALIN: Fair or unfair—and I do think that it's a more concentrated criticism that Hillary gets on so many fronts; I think that's unfortunate. But fair or unfair, I think she does herself a disservice to even mention it, really. You have to plow through that and know what you're getting into. I say this with all due respect to Hillary Clinton and to her experience and to her passion for changing the status quo. But when I hear a statement like that coming from a women candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism or a sharper microscope put on her, I think, man, that doesn't do us any good. Women in politics, women in general wanting to progress this country, I don't think it bodes well for her, a statement like that. Because, again, fair or not fair it is there. I think it's reality and it's a given, people just accept that she's going to be under a sharper microscope. So be it. Work harder, prove to yourself to an even greater degree that you're capable, that you're going to be the best candidate. That's what she wants us to believe at this point. So it bothers me a little bit to hear her bring that attention to herself on that level.

Hey, that might not be the actual quote contained in the story excerpted below, but that's what I took from it. I've used a lot of negative adjectives to describe Darth Cheney, so "loser" is not so bad really. I kind of like "lonely, paranoid, and frightened" too.

Ugliness at Palin Rally in Henderson, Nevada

It sounds to me like a new rallying cry has been born in Henderson, Nevada. Who knows really, it could have been used before, but it sounded like a protester hit upon a phrase that caught on, "Vote McCain, not Barack Hussein." Nice.

I didn't hear anything on the local Las Vegas news about protesters outside Tuesday's Sarah Palin Rally, but there was apparently a contingent. And there is a possibility that the Obama supporters got as equally nasty and unpleasant as the McCain/Palin supporters. But somehow, I doubt it. Here's the video. . .

Free Republic Already Pouncing; Obama's Grandmother

Wow. Just amazing. Only minutes ago, it was announced that Barack Obama was taking time away from the last days of the campaign to be with his gravely ill grandmother in Hawaii. You'd suppose that would bring out a little compassion, maybe some curiosity of what this will do to the campaign, and some general resignation to "see what happens."

Occasionally, when news of this nature breaks, I get curious. . ."What are the FReepers thinking about all this?" As followers of my blog know, Free Republic is a bastion of the furthest right, wing-nuttiest conservatives. They'd be considered a "fringe" group a couple of decades ago. But with the ascension of the current regime of conservatives (and their TV and radio spokespeople like Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter), they currently have an illusory place in the mainstream.

And what they've had to say in just the first half-hour of this story's life, ain't pretty. Mostly, they think Obama's trip to Hawaii is a ruse, to cover some sort of subterfuge. Specifically, they think Obama is not a natural citizen of the United States! And he's back in Hawaii to bury the evidence! Paranoid much, FReepers? And could you muster the tiniest bit of class?
