Chief Justice Roberts Hospitalized

Why is it that when a prominent political figure--in the US or out--has some sort of health issue, they candy-coat it? At least at first, they try to make like "no big deal, he stubbed his toe."

When Cheney had his chest opened up this week, and had his pacemaker removed, his heart shocked, and a new pacemaker implanted, the news made it sound like a tetanus shot. Bush gets his innards scraped? Hey, look! He's riding his bike right afterwards. Fred Thompson was diagnosed with cancer? Cancer schmancer!

When I first heard about Roberts' condition on the news, they said he'd fallen down at his home, and was at the hospital for observation. It would seem they left something out. . .

Chief Justice Roberts Suffers Seizure

WASHINGTON — Chief Justice John Roberts suffered a seizure at his summer home in Maine on Monday, causing a fall that resulted in minor scrapes, Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said.

He will remain in a hospital in Maine overnight.

"It's my understanding he's fully recovered, said Christopher Burke, a spokesman for Penobscot Bay Medical Center, where Roberts was taken.

Roberts, 52, was taken by ambulance to the medical center, where he underwent a "thorough neurological evaluation, which revealed no cause for concern," Arberg said in a statement.

Roberts had a similar episode in 1993, she said.

Doctors called Monday's incident "a benign idiopathic seizure," Arberg said. The White House described the January 1993 episode as an "isolated, idiosyncratic seizure." Both descriptions indicate that doctors could not determine the seizure's cause or link it to another medical condition. For example, doctors would have quickly ruled out simple explanations such as dehydration or low blood sugar.

  1. What should have been left out is ANY commentary AT ALL beyond reporting that he went to the hospital. And the hospital administration should be beaten for issuing a "statement"....and it is complete bullshit that "The People" have some right-to-know.

FDR drove the NATION out of the Great Depression and led the world against the bad guys as a briliant military strategist (along with Churchill)and was a childhood victim of Polio and virtually nobody ON THE PLANET knew he could not stand or walk..

  2. I can get behind that--sort of. But instead of full disclosure, or non-disclosure, we get a dribble of "he's fine," "he's not fine, but he'll be OK," to "he almost died."

I don't think we could get away with the FDR situation in today's climate. And I'm not sure it's a great idea to actively TRY to cover something like that up. Not sure. I'll have to think about that one. Good points, though, Lesto!
