Steven Weber on the Crazy in Today's Politics

I've probably posted excerpts of actor Steven Weber's blog posts a dozen times or more in the past. The biggest reason for that is that Weber writes in a way that I wish I were capable. Sometimes, it's like he dug an idea out of my head, and put it into better words.

In the excerpted post below, Weber describes the craziness we've found ourselves in politically much better than I ever could. Just this week, we've had an irrational controversy about President Obama speaking to school children. It didn't matter that Reagan and Bush Sr. had done the same thing. The right has decided to hate every single thing the President does, and so they hate this. It's nuts. Yes, we on the left had "Bush Derangement Syndrome" some years into his tenure. But this Obama Insanity on the right took root instantly, and is only getting worse.

. . .For this nation's duly elected president and his progressive policies to be kneecapped by a minority of loud, angry, possibly psychotic right-wing zombots is a sure sign that democracy is nothing more than a gossamer ideal.

And by lazily allowing such ideological idiocy to spread unchecked we now have the cultural equivalent of cancer. .
