Heads Explode in FReeperland Over Iowa Gay Marriage

Image from Sydney Morning Herald

I was pleasantly surprised by the Iowa Supreme Court's decision to allow gay marriage. But as I'm wont to do, I just had to see what the wingnuts at Free Repbulic had to say about it. While dipping your toes into those waters is possibly ill advised, the comedy to be had there just can't be beat.

Though funny as it is, it is also a little distressing that there are people out there so deluded. It is as if they believe they know no gay people. Not in their families, or workplaces or communities. Because they feel free to say whatever occurs to them, no matter how ignorant, bigoted, evil or even possibly criminal. Still, if you have the stomach for it--and a bizarre sense of humor like I do--you might take a little schadenfreude in reading some of their responses to the news.

"There is no justice in the land."

"This is scary. Unlike Massachusetts, Iowa is an agricultural breadbasket. Watch crop yields plumett now. God takes His revenge in many ways. Just ask those people burned out of their homes (or had their crops dry up from drought) in California. Russia’s crop yields plummeted too, once she became an atheistic nation in 1922."

"We are fools if we think that God’s judgment will not come to this land. Fools."

"— I’m not saying that it is time to get out the guns,—
If now is not the time, that time will soon be at hand."

"This also increases the likelihood that the US will be a target of Muslim terrorism. The Muslims (correctly) see homosexuality as an abomination. They won’t take kindly to rulings like this."

"This is how revolutions get started."
