In general, Democrats/liberals/progressives are just not a lock-steppy bunch. It's famously been said that leading them is like herding cats. And as Rachel proves here, it is possible to support President Obama without being in agreement with him on everything. I am 100% in Rachel and Turley's camp on this one, being frustrated and angered about Obama's take on the torture and war crimes perpetrated by the Bush Administration. I can only conclude that Obama (or his advisers) are scared of the Republican noise machine.
My opinion is that they'll never get a more conducive period of time than right now to start addressing this stuff. The GOP is in disarray, and the noise machine has never been less effective. The incoherence of all those "tea parties" proves that even when in lock-step, today's conservatives are having a great deal of trouble marching on the right foot, or even in the same direction.
