Adam Jones Drops the "Pacman"

I don't like sports. I don't keep up on sports stars' arrests and other foibles, and I don't know them by their nicknames. But here in Las Vegas, a football player named Adam Jones got himself into a spot of trouble. What kind? I don't know. I don't care.

But every time the man's name was mentioned on the TV or radio--and it was very, very often--he was referred to as "Adam Pacman Jones." In the attached story we are told that the "Pacman" was an affectionate nickname from his mother. Fine, that's cool and kind of sweet. But I tell ya, when you've heard the name dozens and dozens of times, it grates on the nerves. We've had Jesse "The Body" Ventura, and William "The Refrigerator" Perry. There's been Karl "Turd Blossom" Rove and George W. "Chimpy McFlightsuit" Bush. But we don't always put those nicknames in there!

Thankfully, Mr. Jones is dropping the Pacman. May it be as successful as the change from "Puff Daddy" to the much more mature "P. Diddy."

No more Pacman? Jones wants to drop nickname

“There’s really just a lot of negativity behind it,” Jones said. “It’s just time for a change, man. I’m doing everything to make sure that I’m all right as a person, mentally and emotionally. . .”
