Blast from the Past: Cyndi Lauper

I say this with sadness: though Cyndi Lauper is an outrageously talented woman, and people still know who she is, her music is tragically stalled in the 80s. I don't know why this is. I don't know if she has a bad agent. Maybe she ticked someone in the industry off? She should by all rights have had two or three "comebacks" by now, and be sharing the "diva" status of Cher or Tina Turner. Maybe she'll surprise us yet. In the mean time, here are some of the hits (and other songs) that make Cyndi one of my favorite artists.

  1. Didn't she leave show business for a number of years to raise a family? Much like Pat Benatar? Actually, I think Cyndi would do better to emulate Linda Ronstadt and do some albums of different genres (she has a powerful voice that would lend itself well to old standards).

  2. She did do an album of standards called "At Last. . ." and her Christmas album "Merry Christmas. . .Have a Nice Life" is amazing. Just no hits!

  3. Jill, how did you log in with your real name? I can't find a computer that will let me log into comments with Google. I'm using AIM right now.

  4. I've been able to comment normally since Google "fixed" their maintenance crash in mid-May. I don't know why some accounts are affected differently than others.
