I might just be in a silly mood, but I found this picture at Joe.My.God., and laughed for a good long while. Partly because Joe titled it "Burger King of Kings," and captioned it, "He died so you can have it your way." Even better, down in the comments was "Have it Yahweh." Okay, I'm done now.

Blast from the Past: More 70s & 80s Fast Food!
Last week in Blast from the Past, I featured several classic commercials of the best era to grow up in, the 70s and the 80s (I say that, because that's when I grew up, duh). There were so many good ones, I thought it deserved a sequel. I mean, I could run a "Top 10 Best Super Bowl commercials ever!" but that's probably being done all over the internets.
1. Wendy's - "Step aside!" This one's funny, but my favorite one was the one with the drive-thru: "Park it!" I couldn't find that one.
2. Burger King - Yes, that's Sarah Michelle Gellar of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
3. Kentucky Fried Chicken - 11 herbs & spices? Finger lickin' good!
4. Wendy's - Yes, again. As I said last week, Wendy's had the best and funniest ads of the era, and no list complete without the classic Clara Peller "Where's the Beef?!?"
5. Snapp's (Rally's) - Seth Green (Also of Buffy) starred in this ad, and also unwittingly put "ca-ching!" into the lexicon.
6. Taco Bell - Put a smile on your face at Tac-a-tac-a-taco Bell! Yeah, this one didn't really catch on.
Okay, that's it for this week. Happy Monday, everyone!

Burger King Goes all Jetsons

Image from source, SlashFood
Burger King is taking a big risk here. Sure Tomorrowland at Disney World can be appreciated for its camp value, but it probably looked dated the day it was finished. So if BK is doing over all their restaurants this way, I wonder how they'll fare. I wonder how many years they're going to leave it like this.

Burger King Gets Edgy, 'Futuristic' Makeover
Burger King is going red, steel and flame. In an effort to get more customers to choose dining in over the drive-thru, the country's No. 2 fast-food chain is revamping the interiors of its 12,000 locations worldwide, the Associated Press reports. Burger King hopes this contemporary, upscale look and feel will appeal to its biggest customers -- young men. . .

Do You Like A-Holes or B-Holes?
Honestly. First you've got the creepy Burger King turning up in men's beds and peering into windows, then you've got the Quizno's toaster oven sexually harassing "Scott," then Burger King again, with a suggestive "seven incher" sandwich. Now, Hardee's gets in on the act with "A-Holes." OK, yes, I think it's funny. Yes, I love it when the sanctimonious prudes get their oh-so-unsexy panties into a bunch. And yes, I'm surprised that Hardee's (also known as Carl's Jr.) has a commercial that I found funny. Their commercials usually really, really suck. And not in a good way. . .

Hold the Pickle: Man Bites Off Nose at Burger King

Image from source, WYFF4
There is news of the weird, and then there's insane. A man in a drive-thru at Burger King got something that was definitely not on the menu: another man's nose. I'm reminded of Joe Pesci in the Lethal Weapon movies, "they f**k you in the drive-thru!" Well, actually, that may have been a kinder fate.
I've had the urge to ram the car in front of me many, many times. But I can honestly say, I've never wanted to eat the driver of the car.

Man's Nose Bitten Off In Burger King Drive-Through
A man bit off another man's nose in a fight in a Burger King drive-through, and then bragged about it, deputies said. . .

Burger King's Tomato Workers Scrooged

Wal-Mart gets a bad rap for squeezing every nickel out of its suppliers, a policy that has driven most of their suppliers to China in order to compete. Now another business giant, Burger King, employs a similar tactic with its produce handlers. I'll bet that creepy, plastic-headed King is behind this somehow. . .

Burger King as Scrooge
The Nation -- Farm workers who toil to pick tomatoes for Burger King's sandwiches earn 40 to 50 cents for every 32-pound bucket of tomatoes they pick, a rate that has not risen significantly in nearly 30 years. [snip]
But instead of joining other fast-food chains who agreed in 2005 to pay an extra penny per pound for its tomatoes, [snip] this Christmas Burger King is working to undermine agreements that have been made with the Coalition for Immokalee Workers (CIW). As a result, already impoverished tomato pickers in Florida are facing the prospect of losing the first significant raise some of them have seen in nearly 30 years as tomato growers have been encouraged and emboldened to cancel deals already struck with Taco Bell and McDonald's. . .
